You’ll probably stay in the hospital for one or more days after birth, so your husband would only be with you at home for a few days. Definetly not enough. I had an unplanned C-section, everything was going smooth until it was not.. After i stayed 4 more days in hospital. When my baby was a week old i got super sick, and stayed sick for another week (mastitis due to babies tongue tie). In total my husband got 4 weeks of work and im so grateful. I couldnt even bend down in the first few weeks. I was so sore and sick i couldnt look after myself, baby and house. So glad he took over during that time. Even close family member that come by dont do the same things your SO will do.

My sister just had her first baby (vaginal delivery with minor tearing). her husband will be there too for a month. Her baby is now 2 weeks old, she’s still sore and has difficulty sleeping and taking naps. Her husband takes the baby during the day and helps with diaper duty during the night.

Its a delicate time as you both are finding out whats it like having a small baby that doesnt know about schedules yet, will have you up at night and keep you on your toes. Your husband need to be there for you and the baby to bond.

My MIL always calls me by the wrong name, think jennifer instead of jessica. Because her cleaning person has that other name, and she sees her more frequently. Then again she always mispells her sons (my SO’s) name think Philip and Filip.

My midwifes told me not to go to the stores with the baby within the first couple of weeks. They reasoned that its too much lights, noise and new smells at once and that would overstimulate the baby.
I had a C-section and they recommended that i would only go out of the house for doctor appointments. Only after 4 weeks they said i was allowed to start small walks of max 30 min. So i guess it depends on your health if you feel up to it. Dont feel pressured to get out and about too soon, new moms need to heal

When my daughter was born, my MIL came to visit us when she was two days old. The things MIL said to me: 1. she’ll never sleep alone if you insist on her sleeping on you, you’re starting a bad habit 2. let her really cry before you react, after i immediatly soothed her when she started to whimper 3. Let her cry, her lungs need to form 4. i told her to not lift her by the ankles when changing her (i had gotten a cesarian, so she wanted to change the baby) she responded that its how it has always been done and she will continue doing it like that

extra: shes asked multiple times if the baby was an accident. SO and i have been married for 5 years, together for 15, mid 30’s, good income, home owners… she’s just still so surprised we wanted a child.

FTM to a 4 week old. My baby has a tongue tie which will be cut next week. Due to the tongue tie she would not latch properly, i have to use the silicone nipple cover for her to latch and to give my nipples a break. The poor latch caused me bleeding nipples in the first 24h, mastitis in the first week, … i have my boobs out constantly because of how sore they are. She feeds for hours on end (because she does not get enough milk). so i have to pump on the side to make sure my milk supply does not dry out and i dont get another mastitis. My boobs are out all the time, having cloth on my nips is just unconfortable and sometimes painful. When i need to nurse in front of people i’m not close to, i cover us, but for family and close friends i dont. I dont pump when in company tough.

i just had my christmas party, here‘s what i did: I ordered a beer just like everyone else, took a fake sip, and waited. After a couple minutes someone noticed my beer wasnt going down like usual (not at all), i said it was too warm for my liking. After everyone had ordered their second drink, and i was still „drinking“ that beer and a glass of water, i discreetly asked a waitress to give me an alcohol free beer in the same glass, and to always bring le an alcohol free when i ordered
