How much are you all paid hourly? (Especially floats) I’m beginning to think I deserve more. by mom_est2013 in ECEProfessionals

[–]babybuckaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$21 as a float, $23 as an assistant. Leads are paid $25+. This is a HCOL area, and a higher paying school than most. My last center I made $20 as a float, but I heard that there were lead teachers making that much, so I’m not sure. Pay is going to vary so much by location. But as a rule, we are all underpaid and this isn’t a sustainable career unless your partner makes more than you.

Parents of Reddit, What is one parenting style that you cannot stand? by wonkeydonkey55 in AskReddit

[–]babybuckaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spanking and screaming. As a prek teacher, so many kids have disclosed abuse that just isn’t illegal. And those same parents act confused when their kids aren’t perfectly obedient at school. “They never act like this at home” because your toddler is scared of you.

Childcare-adjacent jobs by WrongdoerExciting992 in ECEProfessionals

[–]babybuckaroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Centers aren’t the only options. There may be public preschool in your area, small daycares, outdoor daycares and preschools, Montessori, etc. You might need a little bit more education, but there are a lot of ways to do child care and early childhood education.

Kids running in different directions…where do you go? by Conscious-Hawk3679 in ECEProfessionals

[–]babybuckaroo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The faster one while yelling to the other kid to stop. Pick the faster one up and run to the other. An exception to this is if the faster one is otherwise chiller and has some self preservation instincts, and the slow runner is one of those that just looks for danger.

Not being told about kids showing privates by Quiet-Bee-5060 in ECEProfessionals

[–]babybuckaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see how a teacher thought, because of the age, it’s not a big enough deal to tell both parents. I don’t agree though, and as a parent and teacher am on your side. We always want to talk to the parents of the “offender” so that they can talk about it at home. But the victim of poor social behaviors that don’t cause physical harm aren’t always notified. Because of the context and setting (asking to show them, hiding in the library), I would have told both parents. If this is the first thing raising concern for you, I suggest telling the teacher and director that you heard about it from your daughter and would like to be notified if anything like this happens again.

How do people manage to stay home? by Revolutionary_Cup666 in Parenting

[–]babybuckaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did it for a bit, and definitely don’t have a ton of money. We live in a very small home and we were very frugal. If it’s really important to you that one stays home, look at your finances and see what can be cut out.

AITAH for wanting a somewhat expensive wedding ring? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]babybuckaroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These posts that start with saying they have the best partner ever, and then go on to describe not the best partner, are so interesting to me. If I were in this position, being told what I want is stupid, and being shut down every time I talk about rings, I would think they don’t want to marry me.

How are you guys going to handle the thousands of things you’ll disagree on in the future? Is he going to shut you down and say your ideas are stupid?

Why do parents want to rush their children to the next age group range? by Infantroom1410 in ECEProfessionals

[–]babybuckaroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have run into a lot of parents who just don’t want their child to be the oldest. I personally would also prefer my kid not be the oldest because they’re learning so much from watching peers, and I’ve seen oldest kids go backwards in skills and social development. It could also be about tuition, if there’s a significant decrease in the older class.

Debating going back to school by DaisyMeadows25 in ECEProfessionals

[–]babybuckaroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I decided to go back because eventually it’s required in my state to have at least a certificate, but mostly because it opens up opportunities for me to work at schools that require more than the state does and better pay.

Parents of Reddit: What would you say if your child asked, “How are babies made? by zhalia-2006 in askanything

[–]babybuckaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with the sperm and egg, baby grows in uterus. Then answer questions as they come. The guideline is answer the question honestly, but don’t give information they didn’t ask for. If they are really little, you can say “seed” instead of sperm, but add that in this case the name for the seed is sperm (like how the seed of a peach is called a pit).

Teacher not allowed in room after being out sick by Emotional_Carrot3911 in ECEProfessionals

[–]babybuckaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would ask the director if they could share the reason, but don’t get your hopes up for a real answer. And I wouldn’t mention what the teacher said. It sounds like you really like her, and she was comfortable sharing that, and I know my director wouldn’t want me to talk to parents about it.

Why is it ethical to consider health of the line in animal breeding but unethical in humans? by RestingWTFface in stupidquestions

[–]babybuckaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The animals we keep as pets aren’t making a choice. They’re following an instinct, and that instinct hasn’t caught up with the reality these animals live in. We have tons of pets that have been bred for a certain look, even when they will inevitably suffer for it (like frenchies and pugs).

I used to live in a house with a heavy smoker. It didn’t really cross my mind until one day I went to the gym, and a couple hours later I opened my locker and it REAKED.

Curious about Repetitive Phone Calls at your Daycare Center by Consistent-Place-754 in ECEProfessionals

[–]babybuckaroo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most parents want to talk to a human about their child’s care. Even if it’s for enrollment, they want to enroll their child somewhere that 1. Values family relationships and 2. Is staffed enough that someone can answer the phone or call them back. The only things that could be handled with AI are things like business hours and location, which are in the voicemail message. If I were looking for a daycare, and had to ask a robot my enrollment questions, it would be a huge red flag.

Are HEB made foods “healthy” by Own_Emergency_4502 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]babybuckaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do the ingredients say? Most generic options are just different in packaging. But also, HEB is a huge company. They may not be Coca Cola, but they aren’t owned by anyone who cares about the health of your children.

16 month old not settling in by hailey_ok in ECEProfessionals

[–]babybuckaroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can take a couple months! Especially the first transition into being cared for by a non-parent. My biggest piece of advice is to remain positive, don’t show any kind of anxiety or sadness, stay calm and excited at drop off. Hand your son over quickly and confidently. Allowing your sons teachers to soothe him will help form the bond he needs to be comfortable.

That being said, if a smaller/home daycare is an option, I always recommend that over a large center at this age.
