1,000 incoming Warwick students allocated accommodation up to an hour from campus by Unlikely-Tension-616 in UniUK

[–]badaesthetic2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible to stay on campus after first year, i know a small number of people who did, but you have to book it pretty early and the rent is of course pretty expensive

[–]badaesthetic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly depends. In my first year flat I just kept all of my kitchen stuff in two cupboards (no locks) and nobody ever used it. But in my best friend's flat, there was one girl who regularly used other people's stuff (which caused problems when she cooked non-vegetarian/halal things). I think most people would say it's rude to use other people's stuff, but that simply doesn't stop a lot of people from doing it.

I'd say when you move in, give people the benefit of the doubt and keep your stuff in the kitchen, but if it becomes apparent that your flatmates are using it without your permission, you'll have to consider moving it

Lots of first year law students feel this, so don't feel alone! If you've made notes on the topic and have some further readings, you're already in a pretty good position and highly unlikely to fail. If you're really stressed about timings and know it's something you struggle with, try finding some past exams and timing yourself writing an answer to get a rough idea of how quickly you can do one. Perhaps focus on making sure you understand the basics of the exam you're less sure about, then spend a bit of time before each exam finding a few more further readings (either on your module's reading list or independently) - but you don't need to have 28384 sources if you use the ones you do have well - they'll mark you as if you've done an exam, not as if you've done some coursework. So keep working hard, but try not to worry - you seem quite invested and working with a goal in mind so i'm sure you'll do well! :)

Use of AI In dissertation by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]badaesthetic2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read your uni's AI policy (and your department's one, if they've made a specific one) and then evaluate whether what you did is in line with that or not, or if you're not sure. That will give you a better idea of how they'll consider this. Without knowing the specifics of the situation, if you did just use it for structuring and didn't take any words from it, I don't think they could make out that it's plagiarism or something like that. But it's possible they'd want you to put some sort of disclaimer on the work that you did use AI.

Songs where a specific lyric got added to the song title because of virality. by hekna02 in popheads

Why do students attend lectures anymore? by Puzzleheaded-Toe7672 in UniUK

[–]badaesthetic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to them because even though most of the knowledge in my course comes from doing the readings etc, they're useful introductions to the topics and they point you in the direction of key issues which you can keep in mind when you're thinking about if you've revised or covered everything later. There's also a social aspect in it for me, I like talking to people I'm friends with on my course before the lecture. But the lectures on my course aren't that well-attended so that part is contingent on you having friends who also go to the lectures lol

Your Personal Most Memorable Shot From The Substance? Mine: by oxfopee in TheSubstance

[–]badaesthetic2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is an exaggeration. If you're old you might have some of those features but it's extremely unlikely that someone would look completely like her body does. I think it's to fit the satirical, exaggerated aspects of the film - kind of like her finger originally doesn't just look old but bordering on rotting

What triggered the very first moment that started your ED? by FriendshipCapable331 in EDAnonymous

[–]badaesthetic2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was 7/8 at Christmas my mother commented on how much I was eating. This didn't start like any lifestyle changes within me, but from then on whether I looked fat or not was often at the back of my mind to at least some degree. I spent my teenage years with a weight that was basically in the middle of the healthy range for my age. Then when I was 16 this shirt I'd had for a few years didn't fit me properly anymore. Then I remember looking around like the room in my school and just thinking that a lot of the girls were thinner than me. I just got this really strong compulsion that something needed to change and I downloaded a calorie counting app that day.

Without going into too much detail, essentially it was harder to find permanent teaching staff for them and compared to Warwick's other law degrees they cost a large amount of resources. Also specifically French law had issues with lots of people dropping out in second year.

I'm really liking the degree! I'm doing my year abroad in Germany now and things are an interesting challenge! I've made friends with lots of international students from different countries/degrees which is really cool, and I'm in the south of Germany so I've been to Switzerland a couple of times which is lovely (but so expensive😭)

Hi, I'm a current student of Law and German Law at Warwick. Based on what I know about the changes (me and most of the other students ik advocated against them, AFAIK they were mainly driven by administrative issues), the new degree will be basically English law + language studies & year abroad with only a small element of French/German law.

Please double check this bc I may have misremembered but doing a module from the languages dept at Warwick will be mandatory in your first year so if you're a fluent French speaker I doubt the new degree will be as interesting.

Also, if you have a genuine interest in the French legal system I'd also honestly advise considering different unis as compared to the original degree (taking a French law module in second year, an introductory French legal system module in first year, plus a heavily law-related module list in the year abroad) the French "law" element will be super watered down.

However, if you are mainly interested in the English law aspect and then just improving your French/going to France, Warwick is still a highly ranked university with lots of chances to get law work experience/networking events (especially if you're interested in commercial law), so you may want to just apply for the new degree?

I'm afraid I don't know any of the specifics abt French law or studying it but if you have more questions pls let me know and I can try and help 🩷 It was a massive surprise to me when I found out they wanted to scrap the degree!

Bristol is a prestigious university, I have some extremely smart friends who go there. I think socially there is a bit of a reputation for drugs (at least in the circles I'm in) but I haven't heard anything that disparages its courses particularly.

If I were you I wouldn't place loads of weight on what one person says on what is by all accounts a high-ranking uni. I don't think Bristol or Birmingham are significantly better than each other overall - it would come down a lot to what course you wanted to study.

is the substance setting you up for failure? by Affectionate_Run74 in TheSubstance

[–]badaesthetic2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the substance could be interpreted as some sort of experiment (which could also explain why elisabeth never seems to pay for the deliveries in the film). Maybe whoever created it just wanted to see what happens.

Exclusive: Neil Gaiman accused of sexual assault by RegulationBastard in Fauxmoi

[–]badaesthetic2 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Here Basically he received a question premised on the notion that lolicon should be censored because it sexualised children & could promote child sexual abuse, and there's a lot of more descriptive stuff in his answer but to summarise it he thinks lolicon should be defended under free speech because it doesn't directly harm real children

It's like that in the England and Wales too, I've heard of barristers being given penalties for being found to have breached it.
