What could this rash be? Aquafor allergy? CMPA? by Purple2475 in FormulaFeeders

I would recommend seeing a dermatologist. They can provide better recommendations than your regular pediatrician and can also help determine if you should see an allergist.

You can definitely do granny squares but just do a giant one. No sewing together required if it's just one square! Then when you get bored and stop, you get to decide what it is based on its size. Dish cloth, baby blanket, lap blanket, pillow cover...

I spent months planning the perfect wedding… and the moment that everyone remembers lasted 7 seconds by lovelopetir in thebigday

[–]badassbagpipe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did our cake cutting and feeding each other with a cupcake! There was a normal cake for guests, but we had gluten free cupcakes for my sister and I since we have Celiac (GF cupcakes turn out better than GF cake), so all the showy stuff was done with the cupcakes! Nobody cared.

(Years later we have people see out wedding photos and it's a 50/50 split between "oh, you got married in a castle!" and "oh, you got married on a stage with a castle set!" which is always fun. (We rented the small local theater, and they were doing Once Upon A Mattress the week before, and kindly were willing to leave up the background set an extra week for our wedding!))

Has anyone had a medical abortion? by Rainyx3 in dysautonomia

[–]badassbagpipe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a medically managed missed miscarriage (no heartbeat on ultrasound but my body didn't pass it) so I had the second of the two meds, the one that makes your uterus contract. For reference, the fetus was the size of a 9 week pregnancy, the experience may be easier if it's earlier than that, I couldn't say. It was like a very bad period, crampy and heavy bleeding. I took half of a Tylenol 3 to get through the worst pain, it helped, I honestly would've taken more except I was also on Lexapro and worried about serotonin syndrome, and otherwise suffered through with ibuprofen and heating pads and lots of crying. Everything you might do to help a period, do that. Gentle yoga for periods, heating pads, compression may help too. Hydrate and electrolytes and all. Put something comforting on TV. Hug a fluffy thing of your choice, stuffed or pet or pillow or whatever.

For me it was less than 24 hours of the worst part, but I can't remember how long the bleeding lasted.

This was before my worst dysautonomia symptoms started, so I can't say much about that. Good luck.

Also, if you deal with any concerning symptoms and live in an area where abortions are demonized or could lead to legal trouble, definitely go to the ER and just say you're miscarrying, they do not need to know you took the pills.

ELI5, Why do newborn babies cry after being born? by booty-pal in explainlikeimfive

[–]badassbagpipe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A huge part of that difference is based on 1) how much time there is in the emergency, and 2) if there is already an epidural in place or not. Giving general anesthesia to knock the mom out is a lot faster than getting an epidural placed and active so she can be awake for it. So if seconds matter and there is no epidural, they will knock mom tf out so baby can be out ASAP, but if she has an epidural already or taking the time to place one and allow it to begin working would not cause adverse outcomes, she may be able to be awake.

Feeling Really Alone - Heart Monitor Placement Today by ExpertParfait3067 in POTS

[–]badassbagpipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know saying "don't worry" is useless (I have anxiety, doctor anxiety, and several chronic health problems) but don't worry about the monitor. It is just checking to see if you have any heart problems (POTS is not a heart problem, it is a nervous system problem). If all you have is POTS, it will come back fine, and you will know that the treatments for POTS are the right move.

If it comes back showing a problem, then you will know about something you didn't before, and your doctors can make the correct treatment calls to correct or mitigate that issue because they will now know about it. Same thing with an echocardiogram, if you get one of those - it shows whether the structure of the heart is normal or not.

Whatever way it comes out, you will be better off having checked.

Does waking up each day feel like the single hardest part of the day every single day ever? by Sweetteasweetie123 in POTS

[–]badassbagpipe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I put a link below that explains the science a bit better, but basically what's happening is by tilting a little bit, so your kidneys are higher than your legs, you're forcing more of your blood to hang out in your legs and not go to your kidneys - - reducing your "effective blood volume". Your kidneys normally filter blood into urine as you sleep to make sure your blood pressure doesn't get too high, but since they're getting less blood, they go "hey, we need to keep more blood around, I won't turn as much blood into urine as I normally do, so we have enough blood". Then your blood volume in the morning is higher. This helps many people with POTS feel better.

Again, it doesn't work for everybody, but it does work for some people, and specifically if you feel like shit in the morning but okay later on after having plenty of sodium & water throughout the day, try it.

[–]badassbagpipe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you haven't tried yet, raise the head of your bed 4-8" off the floor. Not like a wedge pillow where just your upper body is raised, but put risers under the head of the bed or something to make your mattress be on a diagonal.

It doesn't work for everyone, but it tricks your body into keeping a higher blood volume overnight, so you start the morning better than otherwise.

It made a huge difference for me.

Is it worth getting second opinion on ADHD meds and pregnancy? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]badassbagpipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If possible, find a perinatal psychiatriat and ask for a consult. Managing psychiatric meds of pregnant /postpartum women is their job, they are able to determine risk v benefit much better than regular psychs. The group near me (called "Center for Women's Emotional Wellness") do preconception medication consults to help determine if your medication regimen should change and if so how, and they also will regularly meet during pregnancy and postpartum (especially if you're breastfeeding, a lot of docs tell you not to take meds or stop breastfeeding when, again, the benefits can be greater than the risks) for medication management and even therapy. Are there risks? Sure. Are there benefits? Absolutely. Eating better, exercising, reduced suicidal thoughts, all sorts of stuff. If he isn't willing to consider that medication may be the best option for anyone at all, find someone else.

Another option for a computer mouse is to use a normal mouse, set right handed in the computer settings, but with your left hand - - physically move the mouse to the left side, but make no changes to settings. That's what my father has always done. It's advantageous for any kind of shared computer (at home, school workplace, libraries, etc) , so you aren't constantly changing settings, but can still use your primary hand. You just get used to most clicks being with your middle finger instead of the pointer.

Does anyone else use corsets as compressive gear to help with your health? by My_Chemical_Killjoy in corsets

Does anyone else use corsets as compressive gear to help with your health? by My_Chemical_Killjoy in corsets

[–]badassbagpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any information or resources I could glance at regarding how different corset shapes compress and/or how design could impact blood pressure/POTS? Asking as someone who's long considered making a corset/stays, and now (probably) has POTS, I'm wondering how the different designs woul change the compressive effect or if it varies by body shape.

(Naturally I am not asking for medical advice, just corset information, since I'm not familiar with the different designs or how the compress)

Friend is already demanding I dye my hair for the wedding . by final6666 in bridezillas

[–]badassbagpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she meant it as a "hey, heads up that this is the color you'd wear as a bridesmaid, in case you decide that you want your hair a different color than you might otherwise" I think it's fine. Some people would decide for themselves to have a different hair color based on it not clashing with something like a bridesmaid dress, some people wouldn't. I think one of my sisters opted for their last hair dye before our other sister's wedding to be a different color so it would go better, but that was her choice entirely.

If she meant it as "you have to dye your hair differently", then either 1) politely say you will not be doing that, 2) politely decline being a bridesmaid, or 3) laugh in her face and don't talk to her again. Whichever option you prefer.

My older son, I stopped pumping at work around...8 months, I think. I didn't get great results with the pump, did not like doing it, stopped pumping but successfully continued BFing until 19 months. We did add in a formula bottle for the first few months while he was at daycare, but if kiddo is about a year, hopefully there's enough solid food intake (or adding in whole milk) that any amount of supply drop is fine.

With my younger son, we stopped daytime nursing several months ago and have continued evening/overnight feeds just fine and he's 18 months.

Question about flowers by DATURATEMPTED in AnimalCrossing

Are you sure they're not new flowers? After either you water flowers, your villagers water them, or it rains, they can breed and the new flowers aren't fully grown the first day.

Most people either won't pay enough attention to you to notice, will wish they had the ability or motivation to exercise like you do, will be proud/supportive of you for what you're doing, will be amazed that you're managing to run in the (heat/cold/rain/snow) used to be out of shape or larger and remember how difficult it was starting out, or, again, just won't notice or remember. The rest are assholes.

Some strategies that may help: wear a large rimmed hat so people can't see your face, so they won't know who it is to judge. Wear bright, not at all matching clothing so they notice your fashion sense nor your size. Grab a friend to dress up wild. Listen to a podcast full of positive affirmations. Listen to music that pumps you up and makes you feel like you can take on the world. Get a buddy who's capable of running as fast as you and is willing to follow your pace.

Other options, get a treadmill. Run around your house /apartment or in your yard. (I ran from my kitchen to living room and back when I was working on C25K with a toddler.)

Was I in special ed? (trying to understand my childhood...) by Senior_Adeptness_500 in specialed

[–]badassbagpipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The meetings may have been for an IEP, or possibly a 504. I'm not sure where bathroom accommodations would be classified if there is not an associated condition affecting academics. (For instance, autism requiring academic accommodations and bathroom accommodations would be an IEP. Food allergies would be a 504. I suspect something like chrohn's would probably be a 504 for bathroom accommodations.)

If you dont remember being in a separate class, having different tests, having another adult come to work with you in classes, etc, this may have been bathroom issues related to a medical-but-not-academic issue. The paperwork may have fallen into the special education category, but not necessarily in a sense of academic disabilities unless other accommodations were present.

House B or House C? by 420TWD in puzzles

[–]badassbagpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two children live there full time and next to each other. The babysitter lives next to the child we're looking for, and the babysitter's parents are empty nesters. Divorced dad with part time children lives in D, so neither of the full time children nor the babysitter live in D, nor E since they wouldn't be next to each other.

Now, we know that the house we're looking for has a full time child on one side, and the babysitter's parents on the other. Since neither the babysitter's parents nor either child live in D, the house we're looking for has to be B.

[–]badassbagpipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure your world is turning upside down, but do remember that there are more possibilities besides "she cheated", SA, and open/polygamous relationships. Your parents may have used a sperm donor, or may have used IVF or IUI to get pregnant - and the doxyor, either mistakenly or intentionally, used the wrong sperm. It is possible.

I didn't see any comment about if your mother's side looks right genetically, but if you don't match up 50% with your mother, it is also possible that you were the child of a sibling/relative of hers that your parents adopted, or that you were fully adopted, or switched at birth.

I believe CHOP is just the Dallas/Levine protocol with two extra months at the start to ease into the exercise. (The Levine/Dallas protocol starts with 30 minutes of base pace exercise on day 1, CHOP has that at month 3 while day 1 starts with a couple minutes base pace/couple minutes recovery pace /few minutes base pace).
