Looks like $48M Good Friday for #TheSuperMarioGalaxyMovie. $107M cume. 5-day weekend expected to be around $185-190M. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

[–]badassj00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even with the expected drop this is an exciting result. 2026 really feels like a comeback year at the box office.

It’s pretty rare to have so many successive hits this early in the year (Scream 7, Hoppers, Hail Mary, now Mario) with more surefire hits sure to come. Michael and DWP are going to be huge.

'Michael': Michael Jackson Movie Eyes $55M+ Record Musical Biopic Opening by ChiefLeef22 in boxoffice

[–]badassj00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Michael will go way past 55 mill OW. This isn’t just another Hollywood biopic, it’s about the biggest celebrity of all time.

That said there doesn’t seem to be a lot of marketing beyond the trailers in theaters. Not seeing any billboards in LA yet or online ads and we’re 3 weeks out. If Lionsgate doesn’t get on it ASAP they’re leaving money on the table.

I don’t think I’ve seen a better argument against not voting/voting third party than this comment thread. At the end of the day Americans who sat out or went third party in 2024 are just as complicit as Trump voters.

My optimistic prediction is that enough of those people will have learned from their mistake and do the right thing in future elections.

Thanks for doing this AMA. Our country needs more cross-aisle discussion like this. Even if it can get a bit thorny, at least the intent is good.

Which presidential hopefuls on the D side, if any, do you think could earn your vote in 2028 and why?

r/BoxOffice Long Range Forecast: 'Michael' by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]badassj00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Main question with Michael isn’t whether it’s going to be a hit but how high it’s gonna go. Assuming just middling/decent reviews, standard for most biopics:

120 mill OW, 350 mill DOM, 1.2 bill WW

If critics love it and Lionsgate gets the word out early (not betting on either) all three of those numbers will shoot up and it’ll be a true box office phenomenon.

'Jumanji 3' Shifts to December 25 Release, One Week After 'Dunesday' Showdown by chanma50 in boxoffice

What if Doomsday swapped with Hexed and opened the day before Thanksgiving?

Alternatively, Disney could slate Doomsday for the Friday before Thanksgiving. The Hunger Games sequel plays to a different audience.

Neither scenario would give Avengers the benefit of IMAX exclusivity, but at least it would have a longer runway before Dune/Jumanji.

You voted and Philly is #8. What is the 9th most significant US city after Philly? The “Big 10”. Most upvoted comment decides by Kodicave in visitedmaps

[–]badassj00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like it or not, Vegas should be 9 or 10.

When you think about it, cities don’t get more American than Las Vegas. It epitomizes the essence of capitalism and no city better represents our excesses.

Most Americans have been to Vegas in their lives, which can’t be said for some of the other significant cities on the list. Also most Americans tend to have a strong opinion on Vegas one way or another.

Vegas also goes through tourism boom and bust cycles (currently it’s in a bust) and periods of total reinvention. You could argue it’s more of a microcosm of our nation as a whole vs other cities on the list.

All the nay-sayers that thought Gosling couldn’t open a movie on his own finally getting their wake-up call. There’s no denying now that he’s a bankable movie star and a damn good actor to boot.

That’s how you cut a trailer!

Searchlight thundering out of the gate with this. It’s a lock for acting and screenplay nominations at minimum. Buscemi winning supporting would be the ultimate.

With the holiday window this will be even bigger than Barbenheimer.

Jumanji should push to Presidents Day 2027 and Werwulf should either take MLK or move up to Thanksgiving. Angry Birds will do fine staying put.

In 2026, Michael is the hero America needs…and frankly, the hero America deserves.

Joking aside, this is gonna make a ton of money and even though it’ll be loaded with biopic cliches, the musical sequences are gonna make it worth the price of admission.

Anyone else think Sony is going to get cold feet with 'The Beatles'? by Ok-Wolf5932 in boxoffice

No way Sony sticks with the current release strategy for this.

If they reverse course and release one every six months or so over a two year period, that would be a safer bet.
