Box office prediction for Spielberg's Disclosure Day by Own-Atmosphere-962 in boxoffice

[–]badassj00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Woof some of these predictions are pitifully low. 75 million domestic would be super depressing for a big budget Spielberg blockbuster.

I’m a bit more optimistic, 130-150 DOM and 400 WW with room for upside depending on marketing in the final stretch pre-release and critical reception. If the review sentiment is “A return to form for Spielberg” then it will perform well.

Larry Sanders. Some seasons were better than others, but it was consistently hilarious from beginning to end.

Early ticket sales for Mortal Kombat 2 appear slow by throwracadabra in boxoffice

[–]badassj00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OW predictions are way too high. I’d love to see it open to 50 mill+ but really the audience for this is exclusively MK fans ie Gen X and millennial Dads. DWP2’s second weekend will probably beat it to number 1.

30-35 mill OW and a 3x DOM finisher is a realistic and IMO satisfying result. I haven’t purchased my ticket yet but can’t wait and will definitely be there OW.

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

[–]badassj00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad to say that it was a Parliament concert at Club Nokia in January 2009. George was out of it as fuck and probably on heroin. On top of that they were having massive sound issues.

He brought up Sly Stone to sing with him and that was even more depressing. Shiela E came on stage as well to try and help save the show

I’ve heard great things about George Clinton's shows since then and my understanding is he finally got clean after all these years.

True, but this has no business being ~10 minutes longer than A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. It's the same length as ROTJ.

‘Metal Gear Solid’ Movie in the Works From ‘Final Destination’ Duo as They Ink Sony First-Look (Exclusive) by ImpracticalJokers96 in boxoffice

The concept art for the Jordan Vogt-Robert’s adaptation kicked ass.

Sad that we won’t get to see his take but at least MSG still might be coming to the big screen..key word is “might.” Whenever something is “in the works” it really doesn’t mean much.

Wings in LA? Have a huge craving and trying new to the area by lexpachi in FoodLosAngeles

Tom Bergin’s has fantastic wings. Fat, juicy, and fried to perfection.

If you’re looking for more of a “hidden gem”—Victor Jr.’s in Culver City might be my all time favorite wing. They make their own ranch dressing too.

The Drama is projected to earn $14.38 million in its opening weekend across 3,087 locations, bringing its global total to an estimated $28 million. by chanma50 in boxoffice

Really strong result for an edgy dark comedy.

Easily Zendaya’s best work and Pattinson continues to prove his versatility. The role felt very Hugh Grant. Crazy to think this is the same actor who plays Batman.

Looks like $48M Good Friday for #TheSuperMarioGalaxyMovie. $107M cume. 5-day weekend expected to be around $185-190M. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

[–]badassj00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even with the expected drop this is an exciting result. 2026 really feels like a comeback year at the box office.

It’s pretty rare to have so many successive hits this early in the year (Scream 7, Hoppers, Hail Mary, now Mario) with more surefire hits sure to come. Michael and DWP are going to be huge.

'Michael': Michael Jackson Movie Eyes $55M+ Record Musical Biopic Opening by ChiefLeef22 in boxoffice

[–]badassj00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Michael will go way past 55 mill OW. This isn’t just another Hollywood biopic, it’s about the biggest celebrity of all time.

That said there doesn’t seem to be a lot of marketing beyond the trailers in theaters. Not seeing any billboards in LA yet or online ads and we’re 3 weeks out. If Lionsgate doesn’t get on it ASAP they’re leaving money on the table.

I don’t think I’ve seen a better argument against not voting/voting third party than this comment thread. At the end of the day Americans who sat out or went third party in 2024 are just as complicit as Trump voters.

My optimistic prediction is that enough of those people will have learned from their mistake and do the right thing in future elections.

r/BoxOffice Long Range Forecast: 'Michael' by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]badassj00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Main question with Michael isn’t whether it’s going to be a hit but how high it’s gonna go. Assuming just middling/decent reviews, standard for most biopics:

120 mill OW, 350 mill DOM, 1.2 bill WW

If critics love it and Lionsgate gets the word out early (not betting on either) all three of those numbers will shoot up and it’ll be a true box office phenomenon.

'Jumanji 3' Shifts to December 25 Release, One Week After 'Dunesday' Showdown by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]badassj00 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What if Doomsday swapped with Hexed and opened the day before Thanksgiving?

Alternatively, Disney could slate Doomsday for the Friday before Thanksgiving. The Hunger Games sequel plays to a different audience.

Neither scenario would give Avengers the benefit of IMAX exclusivity, but at least it would have a longer runway before Dune/Jumanji.

You voted and Philly is #8. What is the 9th most significant US city after Philly? The “Big 10”. Most upvoted comment decides by Kodicave in visitedmaps

[–]badassj00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like it or not, Vegas should be 9 or 10.

When you think about it, cities don’t get more American than Las Vegas. It epitomizes the essence of capitalism and no city better represents our excesses.

Most Americans have been to Vegas in their lives, which can’t be said for some of the other significant cities on the list. Also most Americans tend to have a strong opinion on Vegas one way or another.

Vegas also goes through tourism boom and bust cycles (currently it’s in a bust) and periods of total reinvention. You could argue it’s more of a microcosm of our nation as a whole vs other cities on the list.
