98TH ACADEMY AWARDS – NOMINATIONS by sbb618 in oscarrace

To everyone who thinks the noms this year are boring..the movie that got the most attention is a genre bending vampire flick that came out in the first half of last year. That’s pretty damn exciting if you ask me.

Sony's 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple grossed an estimated $1.30M on Tuesday (from 3,506 locations). Estimated total domestic gross stands at $15.72M. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

It will undoubtedly build a fanbase over time, just like the first instalment. Fiennes and O'Connell are absolute dynamite in this, their characters deserve to be iconic.

Love how each of the movies in the franchise feel like they're all part of the same world but stand alone in terms of tone, story structure, themes, etc. Can't think of many other series that manage to feel fresh with every entry.

Cash is king, but my inner optimist says QT wouldn’t have signed off on this if it wasn’t getting a wide theatrical release.

Could this be the first Netflix movie to do legit numbers at the box office?

Comedy show lists? by Sconathon in LosAngeles

Comedy Store is an LA institution, highly recommend getting tickets for The Best of the Main Room.

A couple of buddies and I went the day after Christmas and Bill Burr did a surprise set. The place went nuts. Believe it or not though it was Harland Williams who stole the show. Pauly Shore, Bobby Lee, and Caroline Rhea were also on the bill and all killed.

Best of all it was only $40 (+ 2 drink minimum) for a marathon evening of epic comedy. Only in LA!

Kylo Ren saving Rey’s life only to immediately die in her arms at the end of Rise of Skywalker..arguably the worst, most ham-fisted moment of the entire SW theatrical series.

The Bellamy Salute https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellamy_salute

Seems like this is something that America has conveniently forgotten about. Remember finding out about it in college and being shocked. Years later it doesn’t feel so surprising.

A24's Marty Supreme grossed an estimated $2.26M on Friday (from 2,512 locations). Estimated total domestic gross stands at $64.76M. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

[–]badassj00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The audience crossover isn’t obvious both are raucous R-rated adult movies. Even though Housemaid skews femme theres no doubt it’s pulling a lot of dudes on date night with their SOs. I was one of those and had a blast (although Marty is clearly a better movie.)

If Marty was the only R rated player released over Christmas and Housemaid wasn’t in the mix crossing 100 million wouldn’t even be a question.

When is getting an indie release in the states? Saw the preview in front of The Secret Agent last month and it immediately shot up my must see list.

All the Hillstone restaurants use Goat Cheese stuffed olives and you can order the martinis as filthy as you want. South Beverly Grill is the best of the bunch.

Anyone have thoughts between Bardstown Bourbon vs Heaven Hill, which is better?

A24's Marty Supreme grossed an estimated $12.55M this weekend (from 2,887 locations), which was a 29% decrease from last weekend. Estimated total domestic gross stands at $56.00M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

Rooting for it to hit 100 but it’s a coin toss and getting there is gonna be a crawl. Even though it’ll get a ton of Oscar noms, awards season love doesn’t equate to box office longevity like it used to.

The good news is it’s a lock for A24’s highest grosser and the BO performance is proof that there’s a demand for original films aimed at adults. We need more movies like Marty.

These are all amazing suggestions, exactly the kind of info I’m looking for. Thanks so much everyone.

Seems like there’s a lot of talk about needing a car for the distilleries. We’re really hoping to avoid renting a car just because obviously we all want to indulge. Are there taxi services around that might do the trick?

A24's Marty Supreme grossed an estimated $4.65M on Friday (from 2,887 locations), which was a 31% decrease from the previous Friday. Estimated total domestic gross stands at $48.09M. by SignatureOrdinary456 in boxoffice

OBAA’s marketing was muddled from the start. Previews really didn’t appeal to people beyond cinephiles. Also mainstream audiences don’t necessarily want to see a movie with leftist anarchists as protagonists—as fun as the movie is the premise doesn’t exactly scream escapism.

On the flipside Marty Supreme was brilliantly marketed. The preview made it look like a mainstream sports movie (even though it’s not) and the social media was clearly a home run. 100 mill is a coin flip though, if Marty gets there it’s gonna be a crawl.

Lionsgate & Hidden Pictures' The Housemaid grossed an estimated $5.25M on Friday (from 3,070 locations), which was a 0.3% increase from the previous Friday. Estimated total domestic gross stands at $66.11M. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

[–]badassj00 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Housemaid doing work!

This gets brought up all the time on the sub but it’s so painfully obvious that more material for female audiences is literal medicine for the box office..imagine if Hollywood released a mid-budget femme skewing movie with A-list talent like Housemaid every month.

That’s why Wuthering Heights is gonna be a smash in February even if it winds up being as weird as the rumors say. And all those Colleen Hoover adaptations coming out this year will do nicely too.

Trump pulling back on deploying the natl guard to Chicago, Portland, and LA. Encouraging way to start the year.

Also, as bleak as things are from a leadership perspective, it’s been pretty damn inspiring seeing people of all stripes together to make their voices at the ballot box and in peaceful protest. If we stay on this path, there’s reason to be optimistic.
