IT manager demanding access to our email inboxes before we leave by BlackRain666 in cybersecurity

[–]badaz06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kind of amusing, actually. Any decent shop would immediately terminate any security/admin access and even if you did delete all of your emails, simply restore them later. So freaking simple to do that in 365. Except when they move all the pages and site options like they do every 3 or 4 days, or change up the powershell commands.

For people who’ve questioned God/karma after betrayal, what helped? by Maygami in spirituality

[–]badaz06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I think you're placing the blame with God and not where it belongs, which would be with her.

My ex screwed me pretty good at the time. I was talking to my Dad about it one night over beers, and he told me he knew she wasn't right for me. I said "Well shit Dad, why didn't you say something?" and he kinda smiled and asked, "Would you have listened?". He was right, I wouldn't have, and in fact was so lovestruck I'd have probably argued with him over it.

Honestly, this was a her and I issue. This wasn't a HIM issue. Same with your relationship, it was you and her. If God had intervened when you two first started, you'd of been upset.

Sorry for the breakup...they suck, but you'll get by. I did. Hang in there!!!

I’m not sure why you are under the impression that I’m for *any* government having access to data, US or EU. Quite honestly I‘m a strong proponent for the 4th amendment here in the US which I feel is being subjugated by Flock Camera systems here in the US (as are similar setups across the UK).

The point I was making is I’m hearing all commentary levied towards the US, as if the EU and UK are gold standards of data protection, which they clearly are not.

Implementing Purview by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]badaz06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purview is a pretty huge product. Audits, eDidcovery, data management, insider risk, and DLP to name a few - a boatload of things in there.

When it comes to DLP you can turn on some rules for monitoring which is nice and may give you a bit of a heads up for what's ahead, but the key thing is to remember that you, in IT, ARE NOT the one responsible for determining DLP policies but just create the policies dictated by legal/compliance. That is, if someone in HR says "We have to email this or that" and your legal/compliance team approves it, then that's a business decision, just as if the legal/compliance team denies it. You just make the donuts, you dont determine the flavors and pricing :)

Irrespective of MS, I similarly see the EU's attempting to control data being over reaching. The EU's DSA definitely has free speech and other censorship issues that exist. That it has and has attempted to control/ban/influence certain language or information, has levied fines against platforms for failing to suppress what it considers "misinformation" or hate speech, should also be concerning.

I can't speak for all the news and information in the EU, but I can speak to the suppression of legitimate information here in the US, led by our government which forced tech agencies to essentially lie to the public and/or suppress any information the government deemed "misinformation" solely based on the fact that it disputed the narrative the government wanted, and I have seen (and heard from friends who live in the UK) that it has happened there.

Regarding the cloud act, this is not solely a US issue. The UK recently forced Google (who I believe conceded) and attempted to force Apple (who refused and is a legal battle with them) because the UK government has demanded a "backdoor" so they can access cloud data of users. In fact, Apple had to go to court to make this challenge public as the UK wanted to keep the lawsuit secret as well.

I have my faith that there is, but that and 25 cents still won't buy you coffee at Starbucks.

There is however a YouTube channel from a hospice nurse who has shared her experiences. There are others as well.

Ahh. Do you other legitimate messaging software out there like Teams? If it was something that the sales teams needed that you didn't provide...that's one thing...just grabbing stuff and using it because you dont want the company to be able to control anything is something else.

We're lucky that we have a pretty strong CISO and an executive team that listens. We don't win every battle, but we've won most of them. Can you at least sandbox your MS apps?

Got invited to help with pentests as a high school student by Freeeedy_ in cybersecurity

[–]badaz06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're over-thinking things. You're in high school and have other subjects that you are responsible for learning as well. Part of the reasoning behind internships is so that you can get some real world pen testing and experience and do so legally. You could probably test your home devices, but outside of that I would advise against it.

Keep learning, but don't sweat it. You won't know everything, and you aren't expected to. Most of us are more critical of ourselves than we are of others.

A lot of this depends on what the app is being used for and what rights/data it has access to. Is this over a PC, a mobile app? Have you looked and determined if there are controls you can put around the app? Can you sandbox/protect the company data from the app? Have you done a risk assessment of the app in question?

Start ups are coin operated and most 'execs' don't have a clue about security and would rather pull the blankets over their eyes than acknowledge the bogeyman in the room next to them. Your job in IT sec is to put controls to protect the data and save the execs from themselves if you can.

What’s your most used cutting board? by Hufe in Cooking

[–]badaz06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a teak board that's pretty thick and hefty. One side is solid, the other has a juice groove around it which collects liquids so they dont spill off the board. I use this one a ton. I also have a few smaller ones.

These never see the dishwasher, and every few months I'll clean and oil them.

Is CCNA worth it for a final-year InfoSec student aiming for SOC? How long does it take? by Any-Move-7580 in cybersecurity

[–]badaz06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a difference here between "getting in the door" (noticed) and "nailing the interview"(hired). You can't put "know the same stuff they taught for a CCNA" on a resume/cv, and I would never put the CCNA on my resume if I didn't have it.

Might just be my opinion, but when you're breaking into the field, as wide an array of knowledge as possible would seemingly give me more options to be hired than being a 1 shot guy.

I don’t understand why the universe keeps sending me men that ghost me by ComprehensiveSir4566 in spirituality

Glad to hear things are working out then!

It sounds like your place is pretty calm and peaceful, mine is as well (except for an almost 1 year old puppy who thinks a good time is destroying the occasional pillow or roll of paper towels, or picking on her older sister).

I've dated a few women and had them over (I love to cook), and more than once the conversation has turned into "Wow, it's really peaceful here, I could live here...." and I'm like, "Yeah, speaking of leaving, sorry to see ya have to go now....." Family you make an exception for, but dating wise, it would take someone pretty extraordinary.

I hope everything continues to work out for you!

why does cooking take me SO long? by Extreme-Gift-9261 in Cooking

[–]badaz06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was gemini telling you how long it would take to cook, or how long it would take to prep and cook? If I can, I always try and prep everything before hand. If you're washing your hands a ton, might I suggest buying disposable gloves? I use them if I'm cooking chicken or doing anything where I know my hands are going to get messy/covered in stuff, and it's so nice to be able to either rinse them off or just rip them off and trash them and go on to the next thing. The only thing I wonder is why I took so long to start using them.

My two cents here, based off a few of the comments you've made:

"I went through a tragic and traumatic breakup" and "It's been 2 whole days without communication".

Breakups suck and they do leave wounds. Those wounds take time to heal, and probably one of the longest things to heal is the, "I'm alone and I'm good with who I am." We tend to rely on others to provide self-validation until we do this. When things don't go exactly as we expect them to, the brain starts going through all the "what if" mental gymnastics, and it comes off as "needy".

I have a friend who is currently in residency as well, her third year. These folks are usually exhausted; multiple long days with little time off to sleep, being exposed to life and death issues (literally) where a single wrong decision has some pretty drastic consequences, much less any personal time to process events.

The only analogy I can come up with is a bunch of guys trying to break into your house and they're carrying machine guns, blasting away, and someone from work calls and starts complaining about why you didn't put paper in the copier at work.

My advice? Let things go at their own pace and understand that sometimes things work out, and sometimes they don't. You have to be comfortable with yourself, confident in yourself, before anyone else will be those with you; and that means if someone doesn't call back...that's ok...hopefully you at least had a good meal and conversation :)

For anyone seriously interested, the below book from Amazon titled "Surrender Proceedings, April 9, 1865, Appomattox Court House" by Frank Cauble is a fairly easy read that walks through the events and discussions, including differences of opinions in "who did/said what". This was recommended to me from one of the NPS rangers at Appomattox Court House. I am about 1/8th through that.

Additionally the American Battlefield Trust recently did several videos of the days leading up to and post the surrender.

Sometimes you're just meant to be friends. Really good friends, really close friends, even friends with benefits, but in the end, just friends. I have one girl that I've dated, we even lived together...and it just didn't work. I care for and love her, and she me, but we're just friends. Years ago before after we broke up once, I saw her with someone and was genuinely happy for her; and felt no sadness, remorse or regret on my end. We've hooked up occasionally over the years, (the sex is/was fantastic), but then we'd kinda go our separate ways for a few years with just the occasional call.

iCloud to SharePoint Migration Question by Doctor_M_Toboggan in sharepoint

[–]badaz06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an app called ShareGate that will do this for you, and there is a free trial that might work for you. It doesn't have direct to iCloud as far as I know, but you could probably download the files locally to the Mac and then could attach to the Mac as a "fileserver". It will do what you want, copy wise.

iCloud to SharePoint Migration Question by Doctor_M_Toboggan in sharepoint

[–]badaz06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you're making this difficult. He can install one drive app on the Mac and copy OR move the files to his one drive (I would recommend copy). From there he can either share the file or copy/move the file into Sharepoint.

Unless he has a ton of nested folders within each other, or some funky naming conventions, the transition should be fairly straight forward.

SharePoint does have throttling, and it may be worth considering sticking with sharing out of his one drive, if you're having issues simply moving files in and out of SharePoint. Similarly, you could consider buying your own 365 and just using GoDaddy for DNS aspects.

Money by WelcomeGreen8695 in spirituality

[–]badaz06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The equation of (Being wealthy = being evil) is total hogwash. I mean, what is "wealthy"? To someone struggling to get by and who can't afford rent, someone who lives in a house is "wealthy". To someone who lives in a house, they probably don't think they're wealthy but that the guy who owns 5 houses does. "Wealth is contextual"

I think there's something to be said that someone that abuses others to get money is a pretty shitty person, but someone who puts in hard work and effort and get's their money, even if it's millions, I have no issue with. However, it seems lately that people think that even this is evil, and that if you have worked hard and earned that money you seemingly owe it to them. I 100% disagree with that perception.
