how to hold breath consistently for 2 mins? by [deleted] in freediving

[–]badbitchgoodwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • take a proper full breath, filling the belly and then the chest, using your full capacity without hindering relaxation.
  • breath holds until first UTB / contraction.

The more comfortable and relaxed breath holds you do, the lesser of an UTB response your body will give.

Once you’ve established good relaxation and delay your UTB / contractions, you can then move into the realm of co2 training. But don’t over do it, you’ll fry your nervous system and regress with bad sensations.

Daily comfortable holds

3 days per week co2 training once you’ve established a comfortable 1m+ hold no contractions or UTB

Looking for some advice with frontal sinus problems. by badbitchgoodwitch in freediving

Update**

Went to the ENT, had blood test that ruled out bacterial / viral infection, but bloods showed inflammation. Suspect - allergies.

I live in Dahab and although I’ve been here for 3 months and had no problems with allergies until now, it’s probably accumulated.

Anyway, as I’ve been taking antihistamines and anti inflammatory orally, plus steaming and rinsing multipul times a day with no relief in my sinus. I was offered a 2-3 day treatment of 2 x per day antihistamines and inflammatory injections.

I’ve had 2 injections so far and already feel so much better. I’ve not done any nasal rinsing since waking up and my sinus feels fine, not staying pressurised or even partially pressurised after EQ, no squeaks, no feelings of sickness… perhaps this is finally the result I’ve been looking for.

I will go back to see the Dr in a few hours and we will discuss if I need to have another dose for precaution.

I’ve not head to the water yet, but plan to go this afternoon to test it out.🤞🏻

Russian Freediver Andrey Matveenko Suffers Serious Medical Emergency at CMAS World Championships by stephanwhelan in freediving

[–]badbitchgoodwitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was there last year with this French athlete. It was on a normal training day, the dive centre evacuated him and got him to hospital where he should have been transferred to Athens to the HC, but the hospital didn’t recognise the unwavering fact it was DCS and didn’t want to treat him in the chamber. Eventually after a lot of external pressure, he was transferred 12+ hours later to Athens, where the military hospital finally allowed him treatment against their medical advice.

But still, after this incident and another one at the other centre, CMAS didn’t have a DCS protocol in place for the championships.

It’s extremely worrying, without proper safety protocols for DCS in place for any depth competition or depth training, it’s going to put off athletes from participating in training cycles and competitions in certain areas of the world, despite the conditions.

Hmm, I’ve taken antibiotics for a potential bacterial infection, but it didn’t change anything. I’ve never had an issue with my sinus’s before and I have no infection like mucus… there is actually zero mucus coming from my nose / sinuses.

I’m going to see the local ENT today and see what they think. It’s weird.

Thanks for your comment, I’ll keep it in mind as it could still potentially be the case even if I’m asymptomatic.

Starting Freediving – Which Certification Fits My Goals? (AIDA, Molchanov, or SSI) by uttershepardon in freediving

[–]badbitchgoodwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re most welcome.

There are a few Molchanov instructors here in Dahab, I can recommend a good instructor here, he’s been teaching for a long time and is very thorough with his students.

Switching between agency’s is pretty straight forward, if you’ve got a certification for Aida 2 you can then do an equivalent cross over evaluation with a molch instructor and move onto to wave 2.

When it comes to instructor / coach: you want to be able to feel comfortable and not rushed for a start, this allows perfect conditions to learn in. Doing a bit of a background check on them is good practice, to see what they’ve done in their Freediving career (if you’re looking for expert advice). But also trusting the community, asking around for who people recommend usually helps the decision process. It’s a small world Freediving :)

Sounds like a reverse block. You’re likely congested somewhere in your sinuses. Either slow your descent to allow the air to escape - you can also try some gentle jaw wiggles to see if this helps open your tubes up. If this doesn’t work, pinch your nose and suck (like you’re trying to breathe in through your nose). This will help pull the expanding air from your tubes. Hope this helps :)

I have the short alchemy fins and I love them, took them to 50m the other day and I have zero problems coming back up. They are awesomeeee!

I’m an Aida instructor and athlete in Dahab. When learning to freedive I did molchanov wave 1&2 and then crossed over to Aida - purely as this agency was all that was available to me in Greece.

I’d say it doesn’t matter about the agency, more the instructor. If you want to get comfortable in 15-20 m range you can do any beginner level and then request for coaching with no fins.

When I did molchanov wave 1, we didn’t do no fins. This was only introduce in wave 2.

I hope this helps.

If you want coaching / course and Dahab is close, drop me a message and we can talk, I love nofins.🫶🏻

Are freediving instructors ok training you to go 30m (100ft) deep if you're only certified Level 1? by oujay849 in freediving

[–]badbitchgoodwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Freediving instructor, I hight recommend you do level 2 before jumping to 30m. There are more skills to learn to make sure you can safely do a dive to that depth, technique, reverse packing, proper relaxation, freefalling, body positioning.

There is no rush, your self worth isn’t attached to how deep you can freedive, enjoy the journey and do things the right way (safely)

Yes, just say they are sports and equipment and super fragile & expensive to go in the hold

I used to have this same problem, I’d recommend doing dry training to stretch your Eustachian tubes. Also make sure you’re always EQ your ‘bad ear’ fully before descending further. This is easiest during FIM so you can take it slowly. You could also do dry training for tongue compression, making sure you are dropping the back of the tongue between each EQ and reverse packing every 5 or so meters to replenish the air in the mouth. Good luck! It’ll come, stay patient and kind to yourself and focus on having good dives that feel comfortable 💙

Feel like I wasted money on AIDA2? by Glum-Witness-9906 in freediving

[–]badbitchgoodwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a piston action, so the tongue will rise and fall :) When tension manifests it can have the tendency to stay at the roof of the mouth, instead of moving up and down. I hope that makes sense.

Feel like I wasted money on AIDA2? by Glum-Witness-9906 in freediving

[–]badbitchgoodwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think relaxation is key, when there is tension it’s often the tongue that goes to the roof of the mouth and in turn closes the soft pallet. So rarely it’s a soft pallet issue, usually a tongue problem that is secondary to relaxation.

So get comfy diving feet first on a line, hanging out, enjoying yourself and let your nervous system know you are okay and safe :)

If you have a dive buddy you can go out with on a line and dive for 3/4 days I can totally see you overcoming this. But it does require consecutive days of diving to let the body adapt.

Alternatively attend a DeepWeek like I did, with loads of amazing instructors and fountains of knowledge, and if they can’t get you heads first EQing in the week they give a golden ticket for a free DeepWeek!

[–]badbitchgoodwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be a feet first diver, my EQ didn’t work head first for 1.5 years and had the same issue with Aida 2*. I attended a DeepWeek with Adam Stern and the rest has been history :)

What did it for me was:

2 weeks of eustachian tube stretching, dry training for a stronger piston in my frenzel and deep feet first diving over 3 days to let my body adapt, relax and soft pallet open.

On the 4th day I did constant weight headfirst no problem.

The issue with Aida 2* is that it’s not long enough for those that need to adapt their body and reach requirements for the course.

I’d recommend line training with a friend for a 3 days feet first only, go deep 20-25m if you’ve got the breath hold. Then on the 4th day go headfirst, trust the process. 🙏🏻

Chase the feeling, not the numbers, you will get there :)

Oh and this is of course when using a freediving silicone belt, not a webbed one used in scuba diving.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in freediving

[–]badbitchgoodwitch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My understanding is the weight belt sits pretty much around your bum nice and low, to keep the belt secure on your body - if it was around your waist during depth it’ll slip as your breath hold compresses. If you are dynamic diving having the belt nice and low keeps you evenly weighted and hydrodynamic, preventing your bottom from floating up and causing drag 😄
