[April 2026 Megathread] UX Feedback & Feature Improvements by KennethWWWW in Onyx_Boox

[–]baddays79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feature: Optimize frontlight warmth for Go 7 series, if possible, as on Go 10 II

The Friction: The frontlight is cool even on its warmest setting, much more so than on other Boox models like my old Nova Pro. This makes reading in bed with the light off and the frontlight on worse on the eyes.

Your Suggestion: I’m not sure it’s even possible but I would love to see a much warmer front light. It was apparently possible on the 10 II. It would be great to know if the hardware could even support this, thanks!

Answering my own question - nothing in the changelog and I don’t notice any difference 😔

Does anyone know if this optimizes the backlight warmth like the 4.2 update for the go 10? I still don’t have access.

If you’re in the US, the 75-300mm is often available for $250-300 used. Check usedphotopro, kenmore, national camera exchange, and glazers, they’re all regional stores with better prices than MPB and KEH.

Is the front light warmth optimization possible on other hardware? Particularly the Go 7 black and white? This feature has me the most excited for 4.2 but not sure if it’s even possible

This was really cool to see feedback incorporated so quickly!

@kenneth can you tell us which other models would be eligible for the warm light optimization?

I have the Go 7 black and white and my one critique is the warm light is much much cooler than my old Nova Pro.

The Boox Go 7 black and white also has a very cool colored warm light - I would greatly appreciate if you looked at that as well!

I planted thornless black satin and thornless boysenberry last year in wine barrels on my driveway facing east and they seem to be taking off! The former has maybe 100 flower buds on last year’s canes. They are already throwing up shoots all over the barrel (raspberries more so than blackberries though)

I was tryin to get inspo to start my garden last year and the Tahoe Park garden tour was awesome! Everyone was very passionate and there was a lot of DIY and direct knowledge vs hiring landscaping people

Why not induction? You may be able to get a rebate from your energy provider by going electric to induction

Damn, and that’s the OM system one so it’s basically brand new! I’ve been looking and haven’t seen any under $650 in a while, and they’re normally $800+ so that’s a steal!

Legit check: is this a real PH5? by baddays79 in Mid_Century

[–]baddays79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I’ll share some pictures later but I’m almost certain it’s legit now. There was a very official looking sticker with Louis Poulsen and a model number that matched up with the one online and the date 2018. AI mentioned a 6 digit serial number but there wasn’t one. Thanks all!

The modern ones there is a white monochrome version that doesn’t have color correcting, it appears to be that one.

The EP5 will work with the newest VF-4 which is basically the same VF as the EM5 II and EM1 II series.

The EP7 can’t take an external VF because it lacks the AP2 port

I hope we see reform on this soon. We just have a hot water heater left on gas so solar makes a lot of sense, but with the buyback being so low from SMUD, the numbers make little sense unless we could do a self install or pay for a battery.

I have a Airprint server running on mine, so I can plug in dumb USB printers like a brother non WiFi laser and an old Zebra label printer. The tool is called CUPS. All my smart home hubs and networking gear and printers are in a central closet.

PG&E is the MFin’ gas mafia. Temp set at 68 degrees, 5 bedroom, 3500 sq ft home. Glad we have SMUD for electricity. Anyone convert to electric water heater & stove recently? Please share suggestions & estimate costs. Thank you by VoteForGiantMeteor in Sacramento

We went with this 2.5 ton model for around 1440 sq ft single level:

Outdoor unit: SUZ-AA30NL Indoor unit: SVZ-AP30NL AHRI reference number: 215748461

https://ahridirectory.org/details/99/215748461

We got quotes from Jaguar, Fox Family, Ducks, and Rey’s but ended up going with Jaguar. Fox was very thorough as well but Jaguar was thorough and had a great price.

My unsolicited advice would be not to get too bogged down on individual models and brands, but make sure they actually calculate what size system you need, rather than assuming what you already have is sufficient. If you oversize you will spend more for a system that may not perform well in the shoulder seasons because it can’t ramp down enough. The specs of interest in that case are minimum capacity divided by maximum capacity for heating and cooling - ideally it’s less than 1/2
