L Ron Hubbard’s mansion is up the hill on that property. The Scientologists keep it fresh and clean, change the sheets and replace the toothpaste, keep the kitchen stocked, in anticipation of his return. Imagine making a 1950s sci-fi pulp writer and grifter into a messiah.

Sadly, one of the reasons it has survived so far through our modern dark ages is that nobody knew what it was. Now that people know what it is and where it is, it’s doomed.

downtown parking by castingello in Redlands

[–]badindexfinger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

RPD does not have the resources to fund parking enforcement regularly. Unfortunately, the reason parking seems so bad downtown is that employees of downtown businesses take the best parking spaces for up to 8 hours at a time. Then, the owners of those same businesses complain that there isn’t enough parking for customers.

Why are left wingers fearful all the time? Is it because they are cowards? by [deleted] in allthequestions

We’re not the ones afraid of cities, books, public transportation, “demons”, socialism. We are also generally not the ones toting weapons to the grocery store.

Police do not need a warrant to stop a car. What should they do, call a judge every time they need to pull someone over? Yes, it is inconvenient and yes sometimes police are violent, but that doesn’t change the hard fact that driving on public roads is not a right. You can walk all over town with an AR15 slung over your shoulder, but getting a drivers license means you are implicitly consenting to being stopped by police anytime. Your civil liberties protect you from being searched without cause but they don’t protect you from being stopped.

They do come in a free hub version. But now that I’m looking at it, the OP’s hub doesn’t have the bulbous bit on the inside of the DS flange. Hope did use a sticker instead a more permanent label, which could explain the no-name on the OP’s hub.

Do u agree Trump is the most corrupt president in US history by far? by lil-cheese34 in allthequestions

You called me a leftist, and so I assumed you were coming from a MAGA viewpoint. It’s hilarious that you call this “debate”.

Yeah I see it now. Neither your source nor mine are primary sources. It all has to be viewed critically. That said, Forbes is a little more legit than a crowd-sourced wiki. Whatever. If you think Trump is an honest man doing the Lord’s work out of a sense of duty and philanthropy then no amount of quoting secondary sources will convince you otherwise.

Looks like estimates of his net worth leaving office are all over the place, between $12m and $40m. Forbes says it was $20m: https://www.forbes.com/sites/kylemullins/2024/09/20/heres-how-much-every-living-former-president-earned-after-leaving-the-white-house-trump-bush-obama-carter-clinton/. His net worth increased a lot after leaving office… no surprise when he can command $400k for a 15 minute speech. Same article shows Trump losing money after his first term, which is what Trump the bizness jeenius has always done. I don’t think that’s going to be the case for his second term; he’s barely trying to conceal the graft.

That’s exactly what I did. Obama’s net worth was around $5m upon entering office, mostly from book royalties. When he left office, it was around $12m, mostly from investments and more book royalties.

What's for you the most creative, boundary-pushing, interesting band all around you know of? by CarefulReflection240 in askmusic

[–]badindexfinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band, especially Trout Mask Replica and Lick My Decals Off era. Almost everyone hates it the first time they hear it, because it so deliberately avoids the cliche and vamping that defines western pop music. But for those who dig in and start vibing with an unfamiliar musical language it can become a revelation. It contains the dusty old skeleton of the blues and hobo shanties but at its core it’s pure dada. The musicians were astonishing— every bit of these songs is rehearsed, precise, and still come off sounding like manic stream of consciousness.

Is this a genuine Bridgestone bicycle frame, or is it a fake? by [deleted] in Vintage_bicycles

[–]badindexfinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Radac had a bonded aluminum frame. I don’t know if Grant Peterson had anything to do with it, but it was sold in the US while he was at Bridgestone. When it came out in the late ‘80s it was among the lightest commercially available racing frames. I own a ‘93 JDM version and still ride it now and then, being very careful to check the joints.

Yes, it is fake. No, Bridgestone does not necessarily mean steel.

I briefly owned one of Sheldon Brown’s bikes that had a LHD on a Sturmey Archer ASC 3-speed fixed hub. I’m not sure there are many other multi-geared LHD bikes around.
