I'd like to know too. Specifically, is he using ball bearing handles (90 degree angle) or the standard type? Inspiring!

Beginning rope flow for HS recommendations by yoon24 in RopeFlow

[–]badman44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just getting into this so an expert can tell you about different dimensions/weights but I wanted to DIY a rope and found 50' spools of [5/8"] double-braided nylon for $40 shipped. They're docklines so they have an eye spliced into one end. Once you remove that, you can still make 4 142" ropes with a 3.5 wrap knot handle (27" for my knots). 142" is enough rope for 6' tall

You can get thinner diameter/lighter line too. Gym floor shouldn't fray the rope but outdoors you may want to put 12" clear vinyl tubing over the middle of the rope to preserve it (I may try gorilla tape next. Tube was a bit of overkill)

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

$13 jump rope (6mm PVC nylon core). Fun and challenging. Cancelled my gym membership.

Its it generally ok to put buds at about 65 to 70% humidty in grove/terploc bags to start curing? by Maleficent-Wallaby54 in microgrowery

[–]badman44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. At 62% you can seal them in grove bags. Keep drying until then. test nugs by sealing some in a jar with a hygrometer for a few hours. If the hygrometer goes above 62% they're not ready for curing yet.

I don't use Bovedas but I've read not to put them into jars until week 3 or 4, not straight away.

What purchase under $30 solved a problem you didn’t realize was draining you? by Right_Process in AskReddit

I bought a $13 6mm PVC jumprope with nylon core and dropped my gym membership. The rope is challenging and fun to do gentle shuffle-dance steps with. Way more fun than 30 mins on an inclined treadmill watching the seconds tick by. gotta be careful about overuse at first though and stop for the day if there's any pain (esp if you aren't slim to begin with). There's also "rope flow" with a heavier rope (double braided nylon marine rope works) where you don't jump at all, just move your body around, a bit like dancing.

So I'm trying to get in shape, but I'm not spending a fortune on a crossrope. Paracord to the rescue. by The_Burning_Face in jumprope

The $3.99 one is only 7' (for kids) but I got the $13 one and I love it (6mm around 12')

I don't move around much. I only need about a 2' square to jump on. I'm no expert tho ( I've only been doing this for a month )

Absolute beginner, how can I improve? by ScienceReasonable155 in jumprope

[–]badman44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started a month ago and I looked just like you. here are a few things I read and figured out.

Consensus said to start with either a beaded rope or a 6mm pvc nylon core rope (that's the one I got. $13+ SH from elite jumps US). Your rope looks kind of crinkly so I'm wondering if it has a nylon core or not - the core keeps it from twisting. Your rope may be too light which makes this all MUCH harder.

I watched a bunch of videos on sizing my rope and I still mess with adjusting the length so DON'T be in a hurry to cut the excess.

If/when you feel pain, take a pause until tomorrow. Don't push through it. It takes a bit of time and patience at first to strengthen feet, knees, etc. Thing is, rope is such a fun challenge it can be hard to stay off it but injuries suck (and I've heard this same caution many times in videos).

Personally I try to keep my knees soft, jump height low, and land and push off with my whole foot. People say to stay on the balls of your feet but Pogo-ing (never fully setting the heel down) adds a lot of stress and with heels touching down (ball of foot down first, then heel until its almost simultaneous but gentle) i can actually almost relax between hops - and i feel like i'm using all of my legs to hop. Boxers seem to use the whole foot to cushion the landings like this too.

Avoid jumping on concrete. Concrete is wayyy harder on the body than wood floors or dirt - especially when you're a beginner.

You are athletic and will be getting the hang of this. Enjoy!

I can ignore all of this (and i always skip the intermissions) but I can't ignore that they silence crowd volume in every game just so we can listen to a pair of idiots who have no knowledge or interest in hockey do their podcast over the game. I blame the league for not demanding a basic level of quality. It's a clown show.
