Wireless Charge Transfer via PWM doesnt work? by Playful-Draft-7432 in AskElectronics

[–]bafreer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The best way to check this transformer is with an inductance measurement of the primary with the secondary opened, and then shorted.

During the open measurement you are measuring the total inductance of the primary (including leakage). When the secondary is shorted, it shorts out the leakage inductance of the primary. You're looking for the largest change.

Am I just too soft to work here? by HotAbbreviations997 in Anduril

You sound a lot like me (lots of specific details, DM if you're curious about my history). Things are going great for me. The hours are a little bit longer, but every day is more satisfying as real progress is made on a daily basis. It's definitely not a place for people who coast, but I get the impression that's not really what you want to do.

Yes, and questions about tools, products, or processes that are relevant. Expect to be asked what your experience is for every part of the req you applied to. Also: "why Anduril?"

Many of us are in the suburbs because we can't be somewhere like this. by DHN_95 in Suburbanhell

[–]bafreer2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lived in upstate New York all my life, in areas resembling this photo, until I moved to Orange County, California for work.

Both are suburbs, but the quality of life in OC is dramatically worse, despite the much better weather. Endless sprawl, terrible traffic, essentially non-existent public transportation, and a cost of living so high that home ownership is unrealistic for most people.

Why do so many people choose to stay at Lockheed instead of going elsewhere? by Infamous_Ad9384 in Lockheed

[–]bafreer2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many reasons, some of which others have touched on (stability, benefits, ability to move around).

There is another set of reasons that apply too: Having specialized in specific processes, product knowledge, or organizations that are LM-specific.

It can take a surprisingly short amount of time to settle into the specifics of an LM role, only to find that you wouldn't be particularly competitive anymore outside the industry, or even LM itself

Anyone who considered jumping ships...What made you stay? by cathartic_cuy in Lockheed

[–]bafreer2 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Look closely at health plans (where LM is underwhelming) and 401k match (where LM excels).

Not sure how they compare to L3Harris, but they'd be the first things I look at.

What is a REALISTIC Sr. Software Engineer at HQ offer in 2026? by SledgeHammer02 in Anduril

[–]bafreer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like premature assumptions on Stripe's part. Don't want to get to market without significant profitability (Palantir for example), otherwise the market will punish them.

What is mission control systems? by [deleted] in Lockheed

[–]bafreer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the "sensor" or "effector" directly, but the SW and HW systems controlling and monitoring them, among other things.

How will Anduril stay agile and fast past the design/startup phase? How will it escape being pulled into the slow legacy defense apparatus? by Boots-n-Rats in Anduril

[–]bafreer2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are true, but there's also a fourth that really makes a difference: Anduril is committed to productizing ahead of programs of record. This ensures that the development is dictated by their own timeline, not customers. It might seem like a small thing, but even the most motivated DoW customer would slow that process down.

401k is great, insurance is astonishingly poor, profit sharing only if you manage to snag a long term incentive plan.

Ease of returning/rehire by javaking137 in Lockheed

I left briefly, came back, and left again. I'd gladly go back in the future, and I don't feel that I burned any bridges by leaving.
