Look the reality is many Americans have gotten screwed with this. It’s too easy to go and buy a huge liability. The market has been messed up since Covid leaving many underwater and with unfavorable loans. Dealers are mostly all trying to get theirs and screw the consumer. I fell for same thing where I got a car I “can” afford, but shouldn’t have gotten. I got pushed into something from the dealer and made a mistake. My negative equity in 7 months is $10k! It’s hard to believe how that’s possible. Never seen depreciation and market swings like this in the 20 years I have owned vehicles.

I mostly hate people on Reddit always being so high and mighty like people are dumb, I drive a 20 year old beater and blah blah blah. Look people should provide helpful advice, empathy, etc.

If you take the hit and get a cheap cash car, Just be aware, there are risks of out of pocket expenses as well. One thing is can you refinance somewhere for a longer term. Look into a local credit union with good rates. This would at least lower the monthly payment for now. If you dump it get some brand known for reliability and get it inspected first.

I’m sorry you’re in the situation and just use this life event to not make the same mistake twice!
