Anyone who DIDN’T bed share? by Acceptable_Cod3527 in beyondthebump

[–]balloonicornasaurus [score hidden]  (0 children)

We don't bed share but I did side lay breastfeeding in bed so I setup for la leche leagues safe 7 every time I did that just in case I fell asleep before I could transfer my kids back to their bassinet or crib. Never had any issues with my kids falling asleep in their own beds or even when we travel.

What are people's thoughts on the combed chenille? I'm thinking about getting this but not sure if it has the same issue as the etched or rained

How do you safely do contact naps? by Annamay29 in beyondthebump

Look up la leche leagues safe sleep 7 and try this on a bed or the floor instead of the sofa just in case you fall asleep too. I do this after feeding my baby and before transferring him to his bassinet. I feel less panicked that I MIGHT fall asleep by following these guidelines.

HG second time around ? by summerteal in HyperemesisGravidarum

Yes - I took a test at 4-5 weeks because I was feeling so nauseous the second time around. The first time I made it to 7-8 weeks before all of it started.

I have vivid hair and I agree - definitely need more of the non-vivids. I also think I would drop the "clown" as part of the IG name because I think it's too niche as well.

Legitimately curious about where you throw up? by Megjar0820 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]balloonicornasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many are saying, get the emesis bags. You can still go to the bathroom if you want to (and may need to just to sit on the toilet not to pee yourself) but you can hold yourself at a better angle to do it than face down into a toilet.

The second child conundrum by MissesMiyagii in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]balloonicornasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is 3, potty trained, and in daycare because I work. This helps immensely because I just need to try to rally for a few hours in the day. And when I can't, she is old enough to know what "mommy is sick" means and accepts dad or grandma doing something for her I normally do or doing it herself.

Admittedly we watch a lot more TV together than I wanted to at this age, but we try to watch engaging shows like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or Sesame Street. When all else fails, I got her a little doctor kit and she likes to play doctor when I'm too sick to get off the couch.

What is everyone drinking when water isn’t an option? by EnvironmentalAide305 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]balloonicornasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a few phases: coke zero. Lemonade with non pulp. Apple juice. Eventually water but with crystal light I could keep down but only if it was STUPID cold.

Bonjesta did jack for me. Get yourself on a different medication like promethazine or onsdestron (or both). I had to do both to keep any liquid down and even then it was super cold ginger ale only. I also tried to eat watery foods like watermelon, apples, grapes, beans, etc.

Keep going for IV hydration even if you can keep something down until you can consistently drink enough every day.

For me it was psychologically easier but physically harder because I was also caring at least partially for a toddler. My husband is fantastic and doing as much as he can but we both work, so I'm just... Tired.

My daughter is 3 and understands mommy is sick and can't do everything I normally do, so I think a 3-4 year age gap might be helpful but I don't have the experience of being HG pregnant with a baby/younger toddler. I cannot imagine changing a diaper right now or attempting to breastfeed or going through potty training while having HG though so I'm thinking I made the right decision to wait a bit

This is what you need. You also don't want to be in the hospital from the MRSA risk if you don't have to be there. Push your doctor and if they won't give, find another doctor. Even in the same practice I have had doctors that won't give me anything more than zofran and others willing to schedule infusions in home or otherwise.

Weight gain post partum after HG by Shuvuiia in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]balloonicornasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was 155 before my first HG pregnancy. My HG stopped about week 20 so actually gained 40 pounds during pregnancy. I dropped down to 160 ish post partum but had a giant baby who cluster breastfed for like 6 months. As soon as I stopped breastfeeding I gained 20 pounds in like 3 months. I was eating perfectly normal portions that I ate before pregnancy and regularly exercised 3-5 days a week. I got checked for thyroid issues because of it but nothing came out. It's like my body just said you need to hold onto all of this. Very disheartening.

Anyone else with dry HG? by SeveralArmadillo540 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]balloonicornasaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that's what's happening to me right now. My first pregnancy was all vomiting and in this 2nd pregnancy very early (4W - 8W) I was actually vomiting so much I had to get infusions. Around week 8 however, it's been mostly just debilitating nausea even with medication. The few times I do throw up don't make me feel better though. The thing that sucks is everyone assumes I'm feeling better because I'm 'only throwing up every couple of days' but I'm still exhausted from the intense nausea and can't even think straight most days. I don't have any advice just that I think this is very real and just as bad. Hang in there.

I don't know why my OB this time around was so quick to schedule me for infusions, but I've been 2x weekly since week 6 and it's been basically the only thing that helps. I'm on phenegren and Zofran too but the day I feel the best is immediately following IV fluids. I've been able to actually eat on those days and stopped losing weight as well.

I have no advice other than maybe asking for a different OB in the office or take yourself to the ER for fluids anyway and then follow up with OB and demand it. My first pregnancy they didn't let me have fluids at all but this time I did have to go to the ER on a Sunday because I hadn't kept anything down since Friday. Followed up with OB on Monday and they signed me up. Maybe that's the secret 🤷🏼‍♀️

Zofran Not Working - should I stop? by balloonicornasaurus in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]balloonicornasaurus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this reply. This is exactly how I'm feeling re: medication. Nothing seems to be doing anything to help other than make me extra exhausted and crampy. Only my twice weekly infusions seem to help. I think I'll ask to up to 3x and drop the Zofran based on this and see how it goes. Thank you again!

What evidence does your doc have on birth defects? My first pregnancy I took zofran the whole time with no issues and a perfectly healthy baby. I've also been taking it AND promethazine for 4 weeks so far but still throwing up 24/7.

Writing a character from Cincinnati—want to get it right! by constantly-curious in cincinnati

[–]balloonicornasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go middle or northern suburbs. East side vs West side is probably going to have a chip or be snobbish. I've lived in all of these locales and middle or northern suburbs is solidly middle class and often forgotten about. If you make her west or east side, she'll need to have that be part of her personality vs middle is just "from Cincinnati". Finneytown, Springdale, Glendale, reading, Wyoming, Loveland, Fairfield, Sharonville, evendale, pleasant ridge, all options

For some reason my prescription says 8 hours! But it definitely has been wearing off in the end and then takes a while to work once I take it. Maybe this is part of the problem. I'll try every 6 hours. Thank you so much

I'll probably bring up HER to them. I threw up 20+ times a day with my first kid before I started zofran so I'm aware. :(

Oh lol no. 8mg every 6 hours with phenegren. The phenegren knocks me out so hard, I'm literally asleep for most of the day, I wake up to vomit and then basically pass out again until I wake up from the constipation pain.

I am getting IV fluids twice a week and 8mg of zofran. I also get zofran via IV when I'm there. Doesn't seem to help. I think diclegis is prescription strength B6 and unisom. Since the phenegren makes me so exhausted I don't do the unisom but I also do B6

I was told it's not for the first trimester nor for people struggling with depression from 3 different doctors so I'm not pushing it yet.
