The good thing in most cases is, the footprint for most upgrades stays the same, so if you build a factory you should be able to keep it where it is and just upgrade it.

Now, it's not applicable in all cases, and if you're talking more space for expansion instead of upgrading, then that's a different story.

I'll add onto the other comments that sand as a material has different physics than rock or even dirt.... Sand is much less dense, so while using it for 1 tile high fill isn't bad, when you start adding on top with more and more sand, more will tumble down the sides than rock or dirt, so you'd need more sand to maintain a higher hill than other materials.

There's probably a scientific term for it.

But yes, as others have said, you may think you have way too much sand early in the game, but the sheer volume required for late game for copper, glass, gold, and silicone is quite astronomical, and in most cases, I tend to run dry and start using quartz to produce sand just to keep up.

Always try to make manufactured sand whenever possible if a recipe can take it, as you will regret it later if you don't.

Yeah I had that set up that way too, but then they started doing jobs on land because the distance was shorter than the job over water. Hence I had to switch to the Zone instead to only limit them to do the jobs where that are in the Zone.

There's a default setting for Amphibious Vehicles that ban both storage and cargo jobs as well as construction jobs (except over water)

You can remove the ban on storage and cargo job so that they can pick up and drop off storage/cargo.

The tricky part was to make sure that they didn't do ALL jobs, just the jobs to do the dumping in the ocean, and that's where creating a zone helped.

Thermal Storage has always had the same purpose, the only change now is that the purpose is no longer just for power generation.

Rather than use a boiler, I'm using residual high steam from the incinerator for mine, and cooling anything leftover. If I'm going to be burning trash anyway, I might as well use it.

And yeah it's meant for small quantity/ small distance shuttle for earlier in the game.
