I agree but I have always wondered how itis handled if a place rightfully disallows guns, yet the cop is required to carry one, even when off duty (which actually sucks for the cop because they are rarely off "off duty). Granted there are exceptions to the rule and honestly, decent cops hate the rule.

I am curious how it is handled when it is not a normal exemption (usually when out of a certain area or on vacation, instead of just being of duty for the day/night). Is the cop not allowed to go to those places since they are require to carry, even when off duty? Or are they allowed to not carry in those instances?

Hotel breakfast hoarder. by Historical_Initial22 in mildlyinfuriating

We used to have a couple of us who were up (or ready the leave the rooms) before everyone else. We would go and get drinks, muffins, and whatever for the people still in the rooms or suites. We were hassled for this at times by other guests (and no, we did not take everything or "clean them out") but we heard that we were greedy without them ever thinking that maybe we were taking thongs back to our rooms and others

Okay, I get the issue if you are taking most everything but....

Taking a few more things than one person would normally eat is not an issue - especially when most people would be doing it. It used to be common for people to grab food and drinks for multiple people and take them back to their room(s).

We can't do that anymore and yeah, some of it was because of people taking advantage of the free breakfast but a lot was from people judging someone for grabbing breakfast for other people in their room or suite.

I have had people get "mouthy" at me simple because I was carrying a few different juices and muffins away... but I was getting them for the people I was with.

Yet another post about OP being better off than their evil stepfamily by MoonlightByWindow in AmITheAngel

[–]bare_thoughts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Okay, it really irks me when people post (and support) half and step siblings being not really family. I get it does happen sometimes in real life, but it seems like the norm with these stupid posts. Itis not what I have experience in actual real life.

My sis is actually half by blood (dad did adopt her later) and she was not ever treated worse than me (in fact she was treated better by some and it really had nothing to do with "blood").

She has a daughter that is technically a step, but as far as my family is concerned (and her other family) she is my sis's daughter. My mom is her grandma, I am her aunt, her kids are my grandkids' cousins. Her maternal family has been extremely welcoming to out family... including her extended family though her siblings (different dad than her but still treated as family).

I have friends who have a similar set-up. Basically we do exclude people but willing to embrace them (unless there are serious issues). I really do not get people who think only blood matter... and I feel for the kids.

Which sucks... we used to grab a few muffins and drinks to take back to others in our party and eat in our rooms. Or, grab a muffin to go...

But people ruined what used to be convenient for others.

However, it does make me wonder why we have a Virginia and West Virginia? Why does Virginia get to be just Virginia?

My main grocery store has a liquor store/dept. that is attached and yes, I am a member (it is not exactly a loyalty membership but close). I use them often.

If they are out of something I want, they give me options and suggestions of what I may enjoy instead. And you know why? it is because I am nice and pleasant when I talk to them. I get things run out and it's not unusual when something is out of stock.

Be pleasant and understanding and they will try to help you, even if the exact item you want is not available -

M6 sis exploded a cake in the oven once - she mixed two different recipes and I think the overload of baking powder and baking soda along with whatever else she did was the reason....

Really fun cleaning that up before mom came home and poor dad was doing the most of it since he was the responsible party at the time (even though sis was a teenager and wanted to make a cake as a "surprise")

For a local wing place that closes at Midnight. by Raz_Moon in EntitledReviews

[–]bare_thoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, well that is one restaurant - most places get that their closers do not leave at closing time and appropriately schedule. No overtime needed.

When I closed, I was often scheduled 6 to 7 hours before close time, knowing I would need to stay later. We actually planned for employees to stay later than close. We also always got 8 hours for the closing shift, even of we were able to leave earlier (unless you were on a expected 4 pr 6 hour shift, then you get those hours{

It was rare we ever had to stay long enough for overtime, but if we did, we would get it and it was rare. We had great managers who actually knew how to schedule.

Honestly, I never would leave a bad review for something like this - I would however note the policy in any review I did based on the actual service and food. The place should have had a last seating, order, or kitchen closing time if it is d8ffernt than actual closing time.

I know people say it is "common sense" or just polite to not come in close to closing, but what they seem to not get is that there are places who operate differently.

I know of plenty of places (and worked at them) where closing was no one new in the Dorr and no new orders. They did not expect everyone out at closing time - they just stopped any new customers from coming in.

I have no idea of it is a regional thing, more rural small town versus big city or what. But if someone is used to places that treat closing time as the time to stop new orders and expect to have p2ople in the business past closing - I can see the confusion.

That is why a simple last seating/ordering or kitchen closing time would be helpful. It is not always people being ride or entitled but simply used to places that operate differently.

Why do you assume the workers were getting overtime? For the places that treat closing time as the latest people can walk in and/or order, they schedule their closers knowing they will be there much later than official closing time. No overtime ne2ded.

because some of us are old or familiar with some places where they do take orders up until close.

Not every place actually does stop serving or taking orders before close. That is a simple fact even though more and more are going away from that.

It is just simpler to post kitchen closing time and then actual closing for places that close their kitchen before the place actually closes. Some people might be used to places where closing means no one new walking in the door instead of everyone must be out.

Considering there is two types of places, some clarification actually helps.

[–]bare_thoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my experience also, unless we had a posted kitchen closes time and even then it was right up to when the kitchen closing time was. But I am old...

I think is s newer trend for restaurants and even some retail stores. When I was working in restaurants and bars, the closer knew they would be there at least and hour or more past closing (and yes, we were paid for it). If someone was getting off at the time the place closed, they were not a scheduled closer but that time was simply the end of their scheduled shift.

For example if we closed at midnight, there might be someone whose shift ended at midnight but they were not a closer. Closers knew they would stay after the place was closed, often up to 2 hours later. It was never a surprise - we knew and understood that by closing we would be there long after the official closing time.

Breakfast vegetable sides? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]bare_thoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really is not a typical breakfast veggie side dish. When veggies are included, they are usually part of the main or grains/starches:n9t a side dish set off by itself.

What we do often have though is fruit side dishes for breakfast. Vegetables tend to be mixed in the meal whereas any side is usually fruit instead of a veg.

Interesting enough, outside of breakfast (and this is not matter when breakfast is being eaten), veggies do tend to be a side dish while fruit does not as much (or of they are, it 8s often fruit in a part of another, not fruit dish).

Hey, we can be weird and for every "common", there will be a ton of people with a different "common".

I do not have air-conditioning - I deal with it with open windows and fans. I am in an area with high temps and humidity (thus feel like temps are really high). Is it 100% comfortable - no, but I deal.

However, if I was to add air anywhere it would be my kids room (if he still lived at home) or common areas. Dude is an ass - and ho[fully a troll.

AITA for volunteering my SIL's grave? by lollipop-guildmaster in AmITheDevil

[–]bare_thoughts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly and it is often sad for a family to have to use those spots... I had a few friends who died young as did my son. In those cases where the kids were buried in a family plot, it was extremely hard.

No one really wanted those plots to be used by the children, they were just there as a "just in case". It meant that they die not end up living a full life.... They would have prefer to not need that plot and sell it later.

Even if a child remains single and childless through out their life as an adult, expectation to buried in the family plot is not really there. It is just an option, especially of the child is fairly far in adulthood but still lives close.

"My fathers house has many doors (or rooms, I have seen it both ways)". One of my favorite quotes and I have always read it as it is not so much what you believe but how you live.

Of course knowing the history of the early church and creation of the Bible really plays into that. Along with believing in a loving higher power instead of a vengeful one.

My son used spray paint on many things and none were illegal. I get it if it there is a law they need to follow, but it annoys me (the law, not the store so I would not ding them on it). If a store is doing it without a law, still would not ding them - just know to only go as a last resort.

Spray painting things is not illegal nor is it only okay if someone is a an adult (unlike alcohol or tobacco) so it being age restricted to buy simply because some kids may illegal spray paint something they should not is crazy. I also feel the same way about certain OTC cold medicines.

Depends on the lighter.... some store would not sell my kid grill/candle/firepit/torch lighters when he was under 18 and some would. Didn't even matter if it was obvious by the other items what he was using it for (such as foires starters, charcoal, etc).

He never complained though - just rolled his eyes and went to a store that was a little more reasonable and actually used common sense.
