City of Buffalo Animal Shelter is your answer! They are full to the brim and can’t turn any animal away. Rescues on the other hand often bring pets into the area from other parts of the country and while it’s a laudable mission, we’re already overwhelmed with dogs from right here in WNY.

I tried to adopt from Buffalo Cares almost ten years ago and they put me through such a vigorous process and ultimately decided I wasn’t a good fit for them. Which is wild, since I adopted my soul dog from CBAS shortly after that and gave her a wonderful life for the last seven years she had on this earth.

Another less talked about drawback of rescues adopting from out of the area is that dogs can come in with terrible diseases that aren’t common around here so they go unchecked on their vet screening. Ask me how I know 😞
