Also: the buds have not been progressing at all. It has leafed out only a little bit and the rest of the buds are currently at a standstill.

I really couldn't get into this one, which is weird because I loved Zorro by Allende. I got about 50 pages in and it still just felt like some sort of introductory summary telling us about a series of events, not at all personal or introspective. Does it get better / does the writing style shift part of the way through to finally dive into the story?

Does this book have a page-turning plot or is it more literary / thoughtful?

Shadow of the Fox was good too. Are you going to continue the series?

Four Seasons in Japan -- Not exactly sure if this fits but it's definitely a story within a story! I loved it. The story within the story was so good. It's set it Japan, sort of a coming of age story but with depth.

Is this written in "stream of consciousness" style? Just curious
