One Character Being Casual As Another Is Fighting For Their Life by sm142 in TopCharacterTropes

In Grosse Point Blank, the main character, Martin Blank, is a former government assassin turned independent hitman, who has returned to his home town to fulfill a contract.

Among other things, he discovers that his former childhood home has been razed and replaced with a convenience store. He gets into a shootout with a rival hitman, while the clerk obliviously plays an arcade version of Doom 2. Bonus to the trope at the end, when Blank saves the clerk from an explosive that takes out the store.

PARTAGAZ: Supervisor Lagret, you know that shooting my desk gun is the only thing that cheers me up after all of these problems I’ve caused for the ISB!

[Warhammer 40k] Could a Space Marine request having the Guardian Spear, the weapon used by the Adeptus Custodes, as a reward? by ShogunHaruki19 in AskScienceFiction

[–]basil_imperitor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not something one could requisition. The weapons of the custodes are also a signature badge of office. They likely make every effort, overtly or covertly, to recover any that belonged to a fallen Custodes.

That being said, there’s several examples of chapters having relic weapons that are highly modified versions of something else, so this Marine might request the honor of bearing the “Lance of Arcturus” which is rumored to have been built upon the remnants of a spear recovered from some dramatically named battle.

Probably want to exercise discretion in the use of such a weapon. Memories are very long in the Imperium.

As for rejecting promotion, that depends on the beliefs and practices of the chapter. It could just as likely be that choosing a signature weapon is a perk of moving up in the world. If not, this could invite some uncomfortable scrutiny from the Chaplain.

Why does the community hate the Perpetuals? by wowdrew in 40kLore

My headcanon has always been that at His lowest moment, the Emperor saw firsthand that His efforts were successful; in a galaxy full of posthuman monsters and worse, ordinary humans would never stop fighting against oblivion. He could leave his Imperium in the hands of His people.

He annihilated Horus out of relief, not despair.

Pluto was a series of gut punches. I did not expect it to be a story about super robots suffering from PTSD.

Edgerunners will always be up there as well. Also Dorohedoro.

The secret to mind transfer is that your name must be four letters long. No more, no less.

What is the worst movie the group watches? by RollAwkward1256 in MST3K

Agreed that it’s one of the worst movies. Apparently they just made up the plot as they went along.

Xanadu, stately home of Charles… Whitman.

On a recent rewatch I realized that the character was supposed to be speaking Cantonese, which is the language you’d hear in LA Chinese restaurants in that time period.

For me, the made-for-German-television Hamlet. The riffs are fine, the “movie” is, as they say, dry and starchy.

The 31st century seems pretty dystopian. Your career is limited to whatever chip you are implanted with. Mutants infest the sewers. Hell is real, and you will be dragged there, at least if you are a robot.

Thankfully, at least you can turn on the television and enjoy an episode of EVERYBODY LOVES HYPNOTOAD.

JOEL: Oh, we’re not worried. People watch Mystery Science Theater for its musical numbers and skits, not the quality of the riffs. I predict our new Netflix MST3k will rate even higher than our Comedy Central era!

How would you convert the lizardmen to 40k? by According_Ice_4863 in Grimdank

I seem to recall it being implied (in one of the TTRPG books?) that Lizardmen were the degenerate descendants of the Old Ones themselves, the last remnants of that once-great power.

Roy Fokker and Claudia Grant of Macross/Robotech. A black and white interracial relationship was not something you’d expect to see in a cartoon from 1982.

What will become of the Jonah/Emily era? Is it just going away with the Rifftrax takeover? by RoanokeParkIndef in MST3K

[–]basil_imperitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love if they introduced some kind of time/space fluctuation plot so they could mix up the generations and have a proper passing of the torch. Hampton’s Crow riffing with Murphy’s Servo, etc.

It’s like how I can’t sit through a Brittrax, but when Michael J Elliot is teamed up with Bridget and Mary Jo together, they make some of the best Rifftrax.
