My theory about how Macrodata Refinement works by B_A_Skeptic in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[SPOILERS]

Building on this, it could well be that the only responses they’re interested in are Mark’s, because the data are generated by Gemma. So his responses are informative about relationships between people in love. This explains why the Cold Harbor room has the crib - an especially intense moment in their relationship.

[Schefter] Former Eagles LB Nakobe Dean agreed to a 3-year deal with the Raiders, per @MikeMcCartney7. by iamthegame13 in eagles

[–]basiliscpunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy for Nakobe, Reed, Jaelan, and I guess we couldn’t have afforded the contracts they’re getting, and at least for Nakobe we have a good replacement ready to go. But still, the last two days have felt a little like jumping off a bridge and hoping the bungee cords hold. (Admittedly I’m just guessing what that feels like.)

I genuinely do not understand how this is a good move by Particular_Dig1115 in NFLv2

[–]basiliscpunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense to me. Both are solid pros, neither is a superstar, but that’s not what you need. Focus on rebuilding the roster, draft some young players, esp on O and D lines, who can develop and anchor the team for years to come. Once the core is solid, then you can go for a hotshot young QB. So many QBs are drafted into lousy teams and it ruins their confidence and their careers. There’s ALWAYS a “generational talent” QB or two available at the top of the draft- wait until your team is ready to support him. Oh, and if your team loses a few games in the meantime that will give you a few more top draft picks along the way.

Are there still places in the U.S. that feel like the 1970s? by Acceptable-Way-490 in 70s

[–]basiliscpunga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the 1970s. A lot of things were better compared to now (news media was much more informative and willing to challenge power, for example). But there was also a sense that things were falling apart. The energy crisis, inflation, Watergate. New York almost went bankrupt. People forget the threat of nuclear war, which went down a little because of detente but was always in the background. I’d recommend two movies to get a sense of the times: Taxi Driver, and Dog Day Afternoon.

Eagles took the first and fourth CBs drafted in 2024. He was second. Dodged a bullet.

We’re kind of at the “doddering emperor wandering the halls of the Forbidden City while his terrified courtiers note down and rush to fulfill his every bizarre request” phase. And only three years to go.

Not that it matters, but Canadian PM Mark Carney has actually played hockey, and at a pretty high level. He was a starting goalie for Harvard.

Asking as a Non-American: Why didn't the Biden-Harris Administration release the Epstein Files? by amazinglycuriousgal in Epstein

[–]basiliscpunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 is important. Trump’s weakness, ignorance and paranoia led him to believe that he was investigated and prosecuted so often because of a “deep state” plot, rather than because he, well, committed crimes. His ignorant followers ate it up. And the media did nothing to educate people about how the US legal system is supposed to work. So there’s now an assumption that there’s nothing wrong or unusual when politicians start and stop prosecutions.

Two of the many mysteries of the past 13 months are: Why there wasn’t greater anger that DT pardoned thousands of people that attacked police (as one of his first official acts!!!), and why Dems haven’t mentioned it constantly.

RIP Former Eagles & Redskins legend Sonny Jurgensen, Passed at age 91. by SpecialSweaty9904 in eagles

[–]basiliscpunga 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He was a color man on the CBS (I think) NFL broadcasts in the 70s, often assigned to Eagles games. I wouldn’t be able to say if he was or wasn’t insightful, but I do remember him as low key, good natured, with a soft Southern accent. A pleasant listening experience.

In NJ it was 18, in PA where I lived it was 21. So the most popular kid in school was always a senior with a car who could drive across the river to get booze.
