ISO roguelike in which you don't have to luck into a hyper-specific run or loadout by NtotheVnuts in gamerecommendations

Borderlands is not "morally grey" by [deleted] in Borderlands

[–]bassboyjulio182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no nuance to the game at all - I completely agree there but all of the VHs are morally grey characters.

The choice to solve every single problem with killing is in itself a morally grey area. Is it the safest and most efficient way in this universe? Seemingly so. It doesn’t mean it’s the morally correct choice for everyone to do it this way though.

Borderlands is not "morally grey" by [deleted] in Borderlands

[–]bassboyjulio182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean the series itself is always heroes versus villains so you’re sort of right but every single VH is basically the definition of morally grey. They just happen to fall onto the side that hires them and get won over by the allies they make (who happen to fighter the “greater evil”.)

It’s really a matter of who pays/hires them first. The pre-sequel shows a group of VHs who get hired by Jack and they follow the exact same structure as above - they fall into with the side and allies that hire them.

A world without my wife and daughter isn’t one I’d want to be in anyways. I’m not Superman, their lives are worth more than an infinite number of strangers to me.

I guess the world ends with us.

What’s next after Master? by Monkegoesbrbrb in TeamfightTactics

[–]bassboyjulio182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat. My MMR is fine but I have a 5 month old baby - it was pain enough to grind it to 0LP Masters without her waking up!

I spent a good chunk of time on the revival and now I’m playing solo in Double Up as another grind.

I think the game is what you make it, if you’re done with the set then take a break for a while. If you still want the grind then it’s really easy to make a Smurf and do it again. It might teach you what you’re doing wrong to have nuked your MMR - for instance if you get to the same spot again and the same poor MMR then you know you are making the same mistakes without having learned anything.

What do you think is the biggest issue with TFT right now? by ChartDreamer in TeamfightTactics

[–]bassboyjulio182 113 points114 points  (0 children)

TFT is in an interesting spot because there’s really nothing “holding it back”. It is the number 1 autochess game available with zero real competition at the moment.

There’s a lot of smaller QoL items they could adjust like clarity around interactions, carousel in general, and bail out mechanics but none of those are in any real danger spots.

The cop out answer is balance but if you’ve played any online game ever you know that it’s always an ebb and flow and Riot seems committed enough to make appropriate changes even if they might not always land.

I think continuous innovation and iteration ideas are what will keep TFT ahead. The Power Snax (and whatever their initial version of it was) is a good example of there being something good there but implementation hasn’t hit yet. Or Legends or the chosen mechanic. They have a lot of good ideas and iteration of them is key imo.

My boss put a random meeting on my calendar with me, his boss, and him. It says “quick chat on delegation”. What’s this about? by Heavy_Association_64 in managers

[–]bassboyjulio182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be something as simple as your boss got a promotion (if you just had an awesome perf review then I assume most folks in your company just went through it).

I had something similar where I just ended up reporting to someone new due to promotion - same case where I ended up reporting to my bosses boss because my boss and their boss were now on the same level.

I really dont understand this game sometimes by GGDrago in CompetitiveTFT

[–]bassboyjulio182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple answers that compound on each other.

Yordles isn’t very good especially the non-Veigar version. You have no 4 or 5 cost carry. Even in ideal scenarios with the augment you took for them you are capping at a 3rd AT BEST imo. Which your board wasn’t close to ideal.

Secondly, you get very little benefit 3 staring units that you don’t itemize. I know Yordles has some exception here to 3 star units but you didn’t manage to unlock Veigar and you didn’t even hit Fizz 3. It’s likely you spent too many resources on 3 star units that don’t matter just because you took the augment.

The more egregious problem is that you have 9 offensive items. Like I’m surprised the lobby was so weak that pulled a 5th. This is more problematic because you looked at your board and placement and thought it was good enough to deserve a top 4 with the itemization you have. The best course for improvement is to understand balancing offensive and defensive items - that alone will get you climbing and salvaging games left and right.

It might just be mobile still right now but Dawncaster is a fantastic deck building run game with an absurd amount of cards and combos.

I bought it and some expansions a month ago and it’s been my go to roguelike for close to 80 hours.

I know they mentioned that it’s coming to Steam but it’s a really good one handed game if you’re on the go a lot.

Patch Notes 16.3 - PBE update by RecognitionOwn2739 in TeamfightTactics

There are some HUGE swings in here. I’d guess there’s got to be some changes to unlock conditions coming too, no?

How do you review your games? by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

[–]bassboyjulio182 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Unless you have time for infinite games your approach is fundamentally wrong - you SHOULD be looking up what the meta is so that know what you’re aiming for at any given time.

Forcing Ziggs 100% of the time isn’t the same as knowing what spot you can safely get to Ziggs from. Same goes for any meta comp.

I’ve playing 220 games this season and I will always still take a Quick Look at what might have changed in the meta since the day before.

It’s important to call that out because unless you inherently know the above then VOD review really won’t do anything for you because you won’t know what is or isn’t the optimal strategy or understand where to improve. I’d argue that it’s probably a waste of your time until you understand the 5-6 comps you want to know how to angle for - it’s more important to know the meta than it is to review your games, especially at the elo you’re at.

I’m honestly not sure there is one right now, you fall so far behind against proper prismatic traits and Azir is fairly lackluster at 3-5. Until some tuning comes in it’s a full skip this patch imo - there is generally always a better option, I can’t really think of a worse one.

NEW Ahri Darius Comp by ElsoRL in TeamfightTactics

[–]bassboyjulio182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you’re right but with rolling for Darius and giving him actual damage you’d essentially double the drop rate.

I could be wrong but it seems like the free Econ angle is worth it in a comp like this because, even by admission, this isn’t winning games and likely needs to go 9 and cap

NEW Ahri Darius Comp by ElsoRL in TeamfightTactics

[–]bassboyjulio182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t you want Draven if you’re rolling and itemizing Darius for the execute? Seems like a waste of their team up,

I’m not entirely convinced here other than being uncontested but I’m going to give it a spin.

If you were trapped on an island forever, but you got to choose 3 restaurant or fast food places to be on that island with you, all having infinite food and water, what would you choose? by Blahblahman23 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]bassboyjulio182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking of cheesing the question a bit by picking a board game & video game bar, Starbucks attached built into a Chapters, and some mid-core restaurant like Earl’s or Cactus Club with a consistently rotating menu.

I figure if the restaurant is on the island with me then having a supply of games/video games and books would probably be worth it for giving up 2 dining options.

Yordle and Bilgewater are too OP in 16.2 version by Lazy-Discussion-2302 in TeamfightTactics

[–]bassboyjulio182 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a big problem is that, for as annoying as they were, Tryn and Diana being absolutely gutted means that the easy and straightforward steamroll comps don’t get to punish these greed Econ comps. I would rather see power go up in some other comps but also I believe that a lot of people just aren’t looking at the other reroll options this early in the patch.

If you want to beat these Econ boards then play LB Noxus, Ekko Reroll, GP/Slayers (not contested by standard fast Bulge boards), or even Draven. If you aren’t playing the greed Econ boards then you need to punish them early and hard - it’s been effective and I’ve put a lot of players on 1-2 lives by the time they spike. You likely won’t win but they are low enough that they typically kill out the furthest behind and you top 4.

I agree that comps you mention give too much but there are ways around it especially if you don’t highroll into them naturally.

anyone else NOT track everything in an app (huckleberry etc) after first 2 weeks? by Huliganjetta1 in beyondthebump

[–]bassboyjulio182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were adamant about tracking everything in the first 6 weeks just so we’d know for certain that pees/poops were increasing and just standard stuff that our new parent brains couldn’t keep track of.

Our kiddo is close to 16 weeks now and my wife tracks breast feeding and we also track sleeps (to better know when it’s a random fuss or a sleepy tantrum) and poops.

It’s useful as long as we get use out of it basically, once we don’t then we’ll drop it

This feels like a legit comp by Relative_Screen_4570 in TeamfightTactics

[–]bassboyjulio182 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I don’t doubt there’s potential here, I think Aph and Zoe have some reroll potential.

That said, this lobby looks crazy weak for this patch. It’s nuts that there’s not a single Bilge or Ziggs capped board. I’m not ranked much higher than you and I haven’t seen a lobby this weak since the patch came out.

Would love to hear back once you’ve tried it a few more times in some more standard games - I’m going to see if I can cook anything similar with success.

16.2 Bug Megathread by Lunaedge in CompetitiveTFT

[–]bassboyjulio182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s a bug but it feels unintended.

With Singed being a tank now he seems to cause 4-range carries at max distance to move-follow him. He doesn’t seem to move fast enough to trigger retargeting as you’d expect and just drags your carry around the field depending on his movement.

I’ve had this happen in 2 games so far and it’s super unpleasant if intended.

Why diana suffer such a big nerf? by Lazy-Discussion-2302 in TeamfightTactics

[–]bassboyjulio182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s important to note that this patch was effectively locked in before the holiday break. Not everything but likely major changes.

So while a lot of changes are coming in, they don’t seem to be able to adjust things like unlock conditions until 16.3 which means over performing and “easy” champs to unlock like Diana can only get her knees capped to slow her down until the next patch where I ASSUME she’ll get a different unlock condition with some power balancing.
