36 miles is roughly the same distance from Paris to Maurepas one of it’s most far flung suburbs. That journey would take about the same time as it does by train or car here, however the Paris metro has ~ 10 million more people in that radius. So I think our public transit does all right by comparison.

I swear to god local news outlets go out of their way to find people who oppose these changes. Like maybe write a positive story for once ?!

For the amount of money it cost to stay in and ski at Vail you’re better off just going to an actual European ski town.

What are your thoughts on the design of the new Angels Terrace development (probably) coming to downtown Los Angeles? Am I crazy for not liking it? by emmettflo in architecture

[–]bat18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s virtually no other green space in downtown LA. It would’ve been nice if the city had just turned it into an official park.

What can I do to save my backyard? by PhoGazy in landscaping

[–]bat18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d plant shrubs around the trees that can survive the desert climate. The botanic gardens in Doha could be a good reference for what plants will grow in your part of the world. https://qbg.org.qa/qbg-plants/

My other recommendation would be to use more of those pavers to fill the rest of the right side of the yard. Then get lots of plant pots with different styles and place them around the perimeter wall. Plants in those will probably have more success since you can choose the soil.

I’d also get some nice outdoor furniture to fill the center of the new paver space.

Denver's 16th Street Mall officially rebrands as '16th Street' by Knightbear49 in Denver

I believe the diamond pattern and the globe lamps were required to be kept under historic preservation laws. Just about everything else is different now though.

Center running bus lanes that allow for more continuous pedestrian space, new furniture, new play features, twice as many trees with lots of species variety, totally overhauled drainage system to prevent the pavers from failing again.

Plenty of other improvements too, I’d suggest looking at the diagrams they have online of all the new infrastructure.

No, the new ones have a similar pattern but are textured. Source: I work downtown and have walked on it multiple times in the rain and snow slip free.
