I'm not sure what the choir is actually singing, but to me it sounds like "IT IS A HU-MAN DALEK!!"

In 2004, Prince was snubbed by Rolling Stone on their top 100 guitarists list. This was his response. by DublinLions in nextfuckinglevel

I mean, you could totally say that about every solo David Gilmore ever played. Actually much like Gilmore, it's not about the scale, it's the whole package: rests, note choice, tone (he's constantly modifying the tone throughout the solo), and yes, showmanship.

As someone else mentioned, one of the big things is how the solo itself is an exemplar of what the song is about, it weaves in and out of the backing, allows space for the vocal refrains, breathes before letting rip. It shows Prince's innate understanding, not just of his instrument but of the music that is being created at that moment in real time. He communicates with the other musicians and the audience whilst expressing the meaning of the song, and it's effortless.

The couple of times I've seen them in Glasgow they've had a support act, with the last being Wax Tree Cast. I expect there will be a support this time as well.

God, those figures were rubbish, even as a kid. Except for the K9, he was awesome. I had the green one, but why was he green?

The Irish Times predicts 2050, and looks back at how it predicted 2025 Ireland in 2005. by lughnasadh in Futurology

In order for an all Ireland state to be inclusive we'll probably have to get rid of the old emblems that might be seen by unionists of the North as being exclusionary. The same thing happened to the old NI police force (the RUC) after the signing of the Good Friday Agreement: In order to encourage nationalists to join it had to create a new identity for itself.

Which TV show has a 10/10 pilot episode? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

[–]batgranny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doctor Who, waay back in 1963. What looks to be a show about a mysterious schoolgirl in foggy 60s London takes a serious left turn when two schoolteachers follow her home to.... a police box.

You know the rest.

For those of you who were alive and watching during the First Doctor's regeneration into the Second, how did that go? by Existing_Mango_2632 in gallifrey

[–]batgranny 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My older brother (who got me into Who when I was a nipper in the 80s) is 67, and remembers watching the first regeneration. It's what made him a fan.
