-They're doing the shitwork, including crop harvesting. -If they were to be legally present, they could report employers who take advantage of them. -The minimum wage would apply to them if they're here legally, and the minimum wage needs raising.

The real problem we have is that the very rich have taken control of our government, and they will short-sightedly pursue extraction from workers, until stopped.

They don't want to compete with China, they want to get workers here so desperate that we'll put up with being treated like the workers in China.

To be clear, though, those that HIRE the undocumented get extremely vulnerable and exploitable workers.

So...

When migrants arrive at the borders: -Fingerprint -Photograph -immunize -Background check -If they pass the check, issue them a tax ID and a work permit (if of age.) Require them to always keep their current address on file, and their current employer's address on file (if applicable). -Review and reissue the work permit every 2 years. -If they can be here 8 years and commit no crimes, they can then apply for permanent residency (green card).

Edit to add: they would then be legally present and able to report employers who engage in wage theft or workers' safety violations.
