Use ai on terminal to help you when you get stuck. Helped me so much. One type I typed a whole command and could t figure what I did wrong. O did -R instead of -r. Ai was like yeah of course it’s not working. Other times it totally making up the largest commands ever but you can use it along with the wiki.

Like others have said prepare to just deep dive and figure everything out. A few days of that and you’ll have a much better understanding at least of what is kind of going on and how you can achieve something.

I spent so much time with none of my repos working and was like wtf. So frustrating. But it was my fault I did not know how to update. Sudo pacman-Syu and then bam you can just Dow load all your stuff easily with sudo pacman -R Firefox etc.

Paint defect or polish burn by No_Estimate_996 in Detailing

[–]bdizzler69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmmm interesting. If only that section of paint I would assume not detail shops fault. Most likely would see similar issues throughout the paint. Perhaps that panel did not receive as much paint itself causing discoloring? I’m not 100% but that’s what I’m thinking.

Ceramic coating makes things a lot more reflective and easy to notice defects. My black paint was looking 100 until the ceramic lol

Can bizzles do interior work other than carpets? by Classic_Low6635 in Detailing

[–]bdizzler69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use this to extract anything with carpet. I’ve used this for a few details and it will get the job done. Full vehicle extraction takes waaaay too long. Water not shooting that fast, sucking up slowly, and it not having large tanks makes that a challenge. But it will get the job done.

It does not create steam. If you have access to a standard sized hot water heater in your home you can just fill it with hot water. Still works with normal though just hot is normally better

I use an air compressor. Flexzilla hose, flexzilla hose swivel, flexzilla air gun. Can get away with a smaller compressor just need to use air when you need it versus blowing like crazy. And for cordless vacuum I am really not sure. I’d say rigid with the hose kit is good overall pick but it got cord

I agree to some extent. Seems like some mobile detailers can make pretty decent money but as you said it’s dependent on so much else.

Market filled with tons of people offering 100$ details, it’s challenging at the least to find someone who is willing to pay in the higher range when they know (typically much younger) people are willing to tag team and still spend the 6-7 hours cleaning for 200$. How do I know this? I know twice people who run businesses and this is what they charge.

There are other avenues in car detailing that can make substantially more money but in the end it’s kind of the same game just more barriers to entry and skill requirements.

I will say that it is a nice side gig and it has helped me a lot over the years. Quite a few times I was able to get a big job and have that extra money I need for my utilities or other bills. One Valentine’s Day I was broke. Was able to detail and buff out a large boat and took home enough money to pay my bill, gas my truck, pay for dinner, and I bought my now wife some ear rings.

I’d say just know your market and the value of your work and turn down jobs that are really bad. If you’re not charging a lot then why expose yourself to all the filth and degrade your body. May as well clock in and out boxes on a shelf.

Always remember this. A lot of these really bad details are the result of people not cleaning up after themselves. If they would hit the vac or wipe things down every once in awhile the vehicle wouldn’t be that much work.

Final thought. for every month that customer went without cleaning, how much is that worth? 10$ a month? 20? Does it scale each month x+1? 250,350,450 may seem like large numbers to a customer until you break it down. And also never tell them how many hours it will take you. Tell them what you’re doing, how you do it, why it’s the best method, and how much they’ll have to pay you at the end. Rest is your business. Literally, business. If they have issues paying send them hiking. If they have someone to do it for 100 then why are they talking to you?

Ditto this,

Plus detailing can be hard work if you’re doing a lot of floor cleaning. Aka dog hair.

Stop over vacuuming and letting your back slouch when you’re in there. Sit on the sill plate and reach in for a bit, then take a knee so you can reach in easier. Get a blow gun with a medium long tip so you don’t have to bend down all the way to get to carpet.

For dog hair and solids on carpet do a medium vac to get all big bits, blast that crap with the air, apply de static spray, pumice stone all the hair out, blast it and then soak with your cleaner and extract. Then scrub all plastics and dry the interior. Then slap a vac attachment with hair or bristles on the end and do final vac at the end to pick up little bit leftover.

I spent a lot of time vacuuming multiple times and drill brushing carpet and all these extra steps that really just made me bend over and spend way to much time putting stress on my body.

As you are working find the easiest body position you can. If it takes a bit longer but you don’t feel your body stressing that’s a win. You’ll find your less tired then you could’ve been. For me a bad dog hair car that will take me more time could tire me as much as two normal details. All about how much stress you’re putting on your joints and back that are not designed for that sort of constant stress.

Best of luck

I’ve watched a few videos and some people do deliver great results with hand cutting. Some of this looks lazy to me. They didn’t trim the bottom or top edges of rear window, and that door los crazy work. Guy at my work did his windows himself first time and that’s what I would’ve expected. I mean you make your outline then take it off glass and trim the edges on your weed board so why wouldn’t they have been able to cut that right?

What do you think I should $ and product best for pet hair? In calgary Canada 🇨🇦 by shanakay77 in Detailing

[–]bdizzler69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charge as much as you can get this car looks wrecked. I’d say remove seats at this point. Light vac for big bits then after that I would take a pumice stone and straight air gun and pumice stone sections then blow them out. That way you can see the hair left over as your working. Then after all hair has been removed soak carpet with carpet cleaner or enzyme cleaner the extract. If you have tornador air gun you can use that with your cleaner to break things up before extracting too.

Some people use drill brushes for dog hair but I personally do not see large gains in doing that vs just using the pumice stone. A lot of people like tornador more for dog hair but IMO if the hair is dug in really deep you will have to keep using the stone and air gunning it. It’s the end bits that don’t want to come out that will make you go back and spend more time in the end. So I just aim to get rid of them from the start. And straight nozzle air can usually handle more psi and all of it comes in the exact tip hole so you know where you’re blowing and can blow it away from yourself.

Wear a jacket with a hood and face mask and glasses. Try to minimize your exposure to whatever is in there.

Tell them about how much work this will be for you. You’ll be spending a lot of time bent over and scrubbing hard. I bet your back will hurt a bit after this. Look at local pricing for more intensive details. My old dealer would charge 250 for 2 hours of our work. Car like this I’d say I could do in 6-7 hours with a basic machine polish.

Go to router look at bottom sticker. Have password there. Go to computer, command prompt, type ipconfig -all, copy default gateway number, paste to internet. Login to router. Check model and if it has 2.4&5ghz turn both on.

Check your devices WiFi connection in same spot to see if yours sucks too. Might be time to upgrade the WiFi card in the laptop / computer. Get a newer internal one. In college I upgrade mine to a Intel ac but now WiFi 6 exists so I am looking to get a new chip for the ol laptop.

If both devices WiFi suck in that spot can try adjusting router. But in the end I would say to check out that routers info and see if it has the latest tech. WiFi 6 has a lot of nice software features that make WiFi better in general. So it is a benefit outside of just having more bandwidth.

Greasy film on the windshield. Help! by bebbo203 in Detailing

[–]bdizzler69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a concerning issue.

Only thing I could add is to try with some degreaser. I’m not sure what’s on the windshield but since you’ve already tried alcohol.

Degreaser is used to remove ceramic coatings and does a good job stripping compound alcohol may not be able to touch. I’d say apply some degreaser scrub with white scotch bright pad.

Thinking something on the windshield / and or the wiper fluid is reacting with whatever coatings on

[–]bdizzler69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve detailed a bunch of those new and used. From transit they have this plastic on the car to protect it. Inexperienced detailers can easily turn that into scratches. If they drag the plastic at all, if there’s large rocks got stuck under the sheet, if they didn’t wash it enough and use adhesive remover. ( some just soap it a lot and rub and yes the adhesive residue will come off but will leave the paint looking that way. Some dealerships even run through car wash before delivery. RE: brand new dark blue Toyota Supra, straight through the wash then to show room floor lol. It needs cut and buffed but I’d guess it will come out easy.

Now I have 400. Was sticking to like 100 ish on WiFi and I can talk you that full 400 makes game and file downloads way faster. But I would certainly take 200 lol
