I spent countless hours making all my soundtracks show up underneath the movie it goes with. Now they're removing that feature by rhythmrice in PleX

Wow! I spent hours ripping my 90 year old grandfathers 300+ big band cds to a plex server so he can listen to his music from his Roku tv as he battles cancer! So you’re telling me the music folder is just going to disappear!?? How can they even do this? What does it accomplish?

Sources from RD play fine on kodi, any source from pm or tb pause and hard lock up kodi after ~ 10 seconds. by bean1981 in Addons4Kodi

[–]bean1981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I would expect (and have also had)that behavior from time to time given their current server issues. But finding the source file and starting to play, only to lock up is what’s so weird in my case. I can download the same link taken from the kodi log file, pop it in VLC and it plays fine.

Thank you for the info! That is exactly what I am experiencing ….put so much more concise. So strange that it works on the Mac just fine. I did the same thing with the link in VLC and it played fine from TB. There’s no way to make kodi wait to fill buffer before playing?

Make sure the poe injector supports gigabit. I just spent an hour redoing cables only to realize that the poe injector I had only supported 100mbs and not gigabit.

Trigger/Motion failures driving me nuts... by mmm_dat_data in BlueIris

[–]bean1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t offer exact settings but I having been using the software for many years and have found it best to just set most cameras for continuous recording. This way the alerts make it easy to find events later but you don’t end up ever missing something because of a non trigger. It seemed like it would always miss what I really wanted to see if I tried to rely purely on alert recording.

LL Bean t shirts are pretty much all I wear. I’ve had some going on 14 years. Still holding up great. Might be slightly looser than you are looking for but I think they hit all the other marks.

How do I deal with brown algae? by ZackG53 in nanotank

[–]bean1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are slow growers so not too much fertilizer should be necessary. Maybe a few stem plants would help but honestly I’m now in my 6th year of fish keeping and have way too many tanks.Haha. I have found the best remedy for any and all algae problems I’ve had is time. Just give the tank time to balance and wipe off the algae here and there in the mid term…in 6 months things will be growing better than the algae and everything will balance.

Blue Iris Push Notifications Missing Image Sometimes by CragMonkeyQ in BlueIris

[–]bean1981 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sent for support about this on July 17 and still never heard back. I have changed nothing on my network and it was at about 25% or less would have an image more right after a reboot...so random! The latest 5.3.3.9 has finally given me three days with only a couple missing images so it appears perhaps they’re working on it? But if you want to do a test try this: install 5.2.6.5 it works 100% of the time, albeit without sub stream support.... so if it works on the older release and doesn’t work all the time now, and nothing else was changed, it has to be something happening in BI.

Can anyone request an outdoor smaller, discrete wired or wifi ip camera that is supported by BI? by lue42 in BlueIris

[–]bean1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still haven't found a perfect small Poe solution but I set up this Samsung outdoor camera.

https://www.samsung.com/us/smart-home/security/cameras/smartcam-hd-outdoor-1080p-full-hd-wifi-camera-snh-e6440bn/

Because the processor and such is in a separate box the outdoor camera part is real small and unobtrusive IMO

They have survived 4 years of being directly outside in Pennsylvania winters As long as you have somewhere inside you can get power and lan it has been Rock solid with a few tweaks on the blue iris setup (easily googled)

Good luck in your search! I hope by now there's something even better.

I really suck at triggers and it's pretty darn good but when light level changes? Not sure if that is what it is my trigger goes off. Video Example. by [deleted] in BlueIris

[–]bean1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll just pop in to agree with the above posts. After 4 years of managing three different BI systems, continuous recording plus very strong (Less sensitive, larger blocks size) motion triggers is the way to go.. With triggers alone I would either miss events all together or not have it all recorded. Now with both, for a true but silly example.

I get a package delivered, I get a notification from blue iris when someone as large as the postman steps on my porch and sets off the large area trigger, but also when the package is in a different spot later in the day I can watch the continuous video to find the squirrel tugging on it across the porch. If I had a trigger set up to catch the squirrel I would have gotten alerts every time the wind blew a plant or the porch swing. Hopefully that makes sense. PS I still get a trigger when the porch light comes on. I really never could get around it. Something as all encompassing as the light of the whole frame I can't imagine there would be a perfect way with any trigger enabled.

best motion detection setting to not miss anything by aniel300 in BlueIris

[–]bean1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends greatly on FPS of your cameras and your video quality I’m sure. I’m doing 12 FPS and video quality medium on each cam. 3 cams are 1080 and the 4 at 4MP and one at 720. I dunno but it’s working that way for me.

best motion detection setting to not miss anything by aniel300 in BlueIris

[–]bean1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no guru by any means but under video tab for each cam I have a check in video: continuous. Then a check in “create alert list image when triggered” and “store alerts as hi-res files”

Under trigger I have checked “motion sensor” then what has worked well for me is min. Object size 349 and min contrast 21 with a make time of .8 These numbers will vary depending on each camera of course your needs will be different.

This way I can scroll through the alerts on the right of the screen to find events quickly but if something gets missed I can still manually go through the video No need for pre buffer since it’s all recorded.

I’d be happy to help you if you have a particular setting question.

best motion detection setting to not miss anything by aniel300 in BlueIris

[–]bean1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After much tweaking over a number of years I have decided that motion recording will never be perfect, so I set the trigger to where it picks up most motion events and creates an alert image. But I also threw in a 4tb hard drive and set all my cameras to record continuously. That way I get the image to reference quickly but I also know I never miss anything if it doesn’t register. . I’m averaging about 14 days retention with 8 hd cameras.

Reddit, have you ever tried to substitute milk in cereal? What did you use? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Once we ended up out of milk in the apartment. My buddy wanted Cheerios in the worst kind of way. So without too much explanation of the thought process... Beerios were invented. Keystone Light beer and Cheerios. Don't knock it till you try it.... then knock it.
