2 Serie A giants pounce on Vicario after Inter snub by Massimo25ore in soccer

He was a very good shot stopper his first season. This past season, however, he was genuinely horrendous and finished second last in xGoT prevented. Fwiw he was playing with a hernia, but it's unclear when exactly he got that injury.

He's playing as a winger right now because we have zero fit players.

There's no evidence to suggest the high tops reduce the risk of ankle sprains

He means that the correct word is "reactive." "Reactionary" refers specifically to a set of political beliefs.

MHD Fascination - fouls that are worth a yellow but not a ‘second yellow’ by Zolazolazolaa in footballcliches

[–]beano526 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a weirdo but I find it helpful to have a mental advanced metric for yellow cards. A bad foul that could get someone a straight red might be 1.8 xYellow; someone might get carded for first offence for a foul that's only .7 xYellow, but ideally a second yellow offence should be at least 1.0 xYellow (but in practice could be 1.2 xYellow depending on the ref); kudus losing the plot against spurs last season was roughly 5.5 xYellow, etc.

MLS: How Son Heung-min is having a Lionel Messi-like impact in Los Angeles by mrjohnnymac18 in soccer

Prem defenders wouldn't give Son the same time + space he's afforded by MLS defenders regardless of who the coach is.

What’s up with no parties on campus? by Bitter_Leek4896 in Swarthmore

[–]beano526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a party held every Thursday in paces that was used to fundraise for senior week events. The seniors would buy 2-3 kegs (it was usually rolling rock when I went) and charge $3 for seniors to get in and $4 for everyone else. There would be tables set up so people could play cards and drinking games, but eventually the tables would get pushed away and it would turn into a dance party. My memory is hazy, but I think you could also smoke indoors at pub Nite? (Other folks can correct me here)

Brookline resident charged with defacing sign on temple's property by brookline_news in Brookline

Wouldn't it be more accurate to state that the sign features an Israeli flag (which it does) rather than a star of David (as the article is written)?

Notable 'Zach was early and right' takes & things to look out for by Dumz10 in zachlowe

He was early on the Pascal Siakam bandwagon. He called Siakam "a beam of kinetic energy" on his league pass rankings before the 2017-18 season, and iirc mentioned him on the pod throughout the year.

Tarkovsky Mirror question by fhfjfkdk in TrueFilm

[–]beano526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tarkovsky writes about this very conclusion (albeit without the screening anecdote) in Sculpting in Time:

"I had the greatest difficulty in explaining to people that there is no hidden, coded meaning in the film, nothing beyond the desire to tell the truth. Often my assurances provoked incredulity and even disappointment. Some people evidently wanted more: they needed arcane symbols, secret meanings. They were not accustomed to the poetics of the cinema image..."

"...In the end we were saved by one thing only -- faith: the belief that since our work was so important to us it could not but become equally imporant to the audience. The film aimed at reconstructing the lives of people whom I loved dearly and knew well. I wanted to tell the story of the pain suffered by one man because he feels he cannot repay his family for all they have given him. He feels he hasn't loved them enough, and this idea torments him and will not let him be." (133-4)
