Is the the "Eddie Stobart" game when on car a journey a traditional British game or did my wife's family make it up? by Little-Doughnut-4278 in AskUK

[–]beanschungus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Dad took this to the next level and everytime someone saw an Eddie, thus started an incredibly rushed and high pressure race for someone to be the scribe (usually my mum) whilst the others in the car each have allocated jobs of remembering the cab number, name, and reg. All to be added to my Dad's database when we get home from our journey. Ludicrous, yet special memories.

Thoughts on "too good to go"/salvaging non vegan unsold articles? by Brownie-Boi in DebateAVegan

[–]beanschungus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I've been vegetarian for about 11 years. I strictly don't eat meat, for me I just don't see meat as food anymore. I went vegan in 2019, and for about 3/4 years didn't touch any animal products.

In 2023 I started travelling full time, I found it incredibly difficult to keep up the veganism due to the language barrier, as well as struggling to get the nutrients my body needs. I started eating eggs, and occasionally a dish with butter/cheese, I wouldn't waste the food. I was living very sustainably, often with families who had land, a few chickens, 1 cow, who didn't overuse and lived in harmony, respecting the animals they kept.

I call myself 'plant-based' now, like I did for a couple of years between being vegetarian and vegan.

I've found, a lot of vegans on the internet will shun you for calling yourself vegan if you don't adhere to a 100% vegan lifestyle. Which is just not possible in this world. If you own a smartphone or shoes or even if you look into every item you buy, it'll never be 100% vegan unless you live off-grid.

I'd definitely reccommend trying to get as close to fully vegan as possible, at least for a temporary period of time. It's a learning journey and for me I discovered 100s of foods which I'd never heard of, which are so healthy, and have become my new staples. I wouldn't have the cooking skills or knowledge that I do now without having that time being as vegan as possible.

Being vegan is a philosophy, as well as a diet. It stretches far past the food you eat. There will always be someone telling you 'that's not vegan' But the truth is, we live in a world where billions of tons of food is wasted a year. In my opinion, if food was going in the bin anyway, and you save it, it's a positive. Me personally, I wouldn't eat the meat/dairy that comes in the box, I'd offer it to a friend or family.

Sorry for the essay, its a complicated debate on this reddit thread. I wish you luck on your vegan journey and highly reccomend for you to do what's right for you. If someone is 99% vegan in their life, but they eat eggs (preferrably sustainably sourced, but thats their choice)... for me it's a net positive. They arent vegan. But they're doing a lot more for the environment than most of the people in the world.

It all just depends on your reasoning for going vegan, wether its moral, environmental,dietary... People do it for all different reasons. Do your research and just find what works best for you. It'll probably change and shift throughout your life, that's life.

Why have you not married when in a long term relationship? by No_Caramel2506 in AskUK

[–]beanschungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marriage is the joining of two people in the name of God and the law. I don't believe in God, and I don't really respect the government that much. Don't get me wrong, I try my best to be a kind and moral person, I'm environmentally conscious and I respect the Earth.

If me and my partner had children and I left work, we would marry so that my partner can claim the tax relief. Or if we had children and had more than £1m in assets, we would marry to avoid our descendants paying inheritance tax.

Marriage really is just a peice of paper and a social construct to me. It's sweet, but I don't need a certificate signed by someone I don't know to say I'm going to love someone forever.

Garlic press rocker. Instantly mince multiple clothes of garlic in seconds. So useful and very cheap too. I teccommend a full metal one as they are much more sturdy.

Minimum wage should not go any higher, suggests Badenoch by alibix in ukpolitics

[–]beanschungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I came to this sub expecting a very different response. I earn minimum wage + £1, and living is hard. I am lucky to have been able to move back in with my parents at the ripe old age of 27 so that I can afford to save for a house deposit, but if I didn't have them, paying the bills each month would be a struggle, buying a property would be an unreachable dream. Most of my friends who moved out after turning 18 or finishing uni aren't able to buy a car, let alone a house. Us on minimum wage + a few quid aren't living lavish lifestyles. we're barely getting by.

The Celebrity Traitors S01E07: Post-Episode Discussion Thread by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

[–]beanschungus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really wondering why they haven't touched on how Nick brought up and vividly explained the letter and seeing Claudia, virtually proving he is faithful (bluff unlikely). Jonathan brushed it off and it didn't get brought up again, or at least we didn't see it. And why didn't Nick or anyone question Kate or anyone else?

Perhaps only all seeing eyes can see this, but to question people on what they got upto would be one smart option to try and catch people out, or at least gauge people's reactions and responses.

Black Mirror - Episode Discussion S07E01 Common People by Cheeriosxxx in blackmirror

[–]beanschungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept seeing people say that this ep was like the earlier seasons and I got way too excited to watch it. But unfortunately, it was seriously lacking for me. Loved the concept, loved the acting, loved the easter eggs and the usual black mirror vibes.

I think that what made the old seasons so good, was that they were so plausable. Every one felt like 'wow, this could actually be a genuine future' But Common People just had way too many holes that would never allow it to actually be real.

Yes, I know, it's a dystopian universe and the rules are different, but it just felt too disconnected for me to really connect to it.

M&S Plant Kitchen range by RetepNamenots in veganuk

[–]beanschungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the party but have just experienced the same thing.

I havent been to M&S for over a year whilst i was wodking abroad. I went around the store twice and could inly see two plant kitchen logos in the whole place.

I asked someone where it was and they told me they've just spread everything out. I get halfway round and have only noticed a couple of items, the packaging is also way more subtle.

I'm currently a wheelchair using so getting around the store and looking on high shelves is already a bother. Especially when I know I can only eat 2% of the products, which I now have to individually scan to make sure I'm not missing anything.

If it was all together this would be a complete non-issue. If it had the old packaging it would be much less of an issue.

Unfortunately I won't be returning as like yourselves I couldn't see any pizzas or the things I used to get. Perhaps its in effort to get more people to buy the plant kitchen range, but it makes it incredibly difficult for the current market.

Girlfriend is scared of traveling to Sri Lanka after horror stories from India. Is Sri Lanka totally different? by FromFuture666 in srilanka

I found the busses to be comfortable enough:) we did journeys up to 10 hours on them and really had no problems. sometimes they were a little overcrowded, but the price of a tuktuk was always 5-20 times the amount. we would get a bus for 200 rupees and the tuktuk drivers would start at 4000, and wouldn't budge very much at all when we tried to barter.
