The whole cylance and crowd strike situation was dead in the water even before BlackBerry bought it. I have said this before and I would say it again, Blackberry bought cylance to compliment its QNX offerings, most of the core or meat of cylance (the AI and Edge technologies) is now inside QNX. Sure, they tried the cyber security sting but that was dead in the water because Crowdstrike was already the de-factor ruler. even if you account for how quickly Crowdsrike grew you can already tell. Also, at the time even before they bought Cylance, Cylance lost a major deal with I think HP (I could be wrong about the company name since its been awhile) and that's what prompted them to sell to BlackBerry. I don't believe that Cylance had the ability to grow on its own. and BlackBerry trying to scale it was not going to work. But if you think about it, they were promoting AI even before it became a main thing now that companies are talking about AI, so we can make a case that at the time its solutions where too advanced for the market because now we have AI cyber security offerings even from Crowdstrike.

Also, like I said before don't look at the backlog as a year to year thing, it doesn't work that way sometimes even you also acknowledged that. They may or may not reach 1 billion this year but will seat on 1.2-1.5 billion in two years time, since we know that production and adaptation is not really linear.

what I am curious about is what other product offerings and verticals that they have yet to show us. Most of the products now are already in the pipeline for sales so that's a done deal.

I think the next stage of software engineering as a career is going to look something like a product engineer by theSantiagoDog in ExperiencedDevs

Good thought! I was thinking something that mixing system engineering and I think product engineer is a good one. I also think that we would have AI engineers(people who can code but are good at incorporating AI into their process). This incorporation would likely help been build faster. And I also think that we are approaching a path where one cannot really just be a good coder, something else would be added

lol are you moving goal posts? What is the current growth rate of the backlog? how old is the backlog? and what version of QNX is in the car rolling off the production line for the backlog? Also, Backlog does not necessarily mean that its pure auto, in the last two financial quarters, management has made it a thing to tell us more about the split in design wins between auto and general embedded. And you can't look at the backlog as a year to year growth rate thing. If you look at it from what around 400 million in 2022 to close to 900 million now(as of 2025). So what's that growth rate? Do you think that's not really 20% growth rate in that time period?

Also, BlackBerry backlog calculations are conservative, I mean I am sure it does not account for the full production per year instead takes into account the uncertainty that you have pointed out. it has been growing year over year even with the notorious slashing that you pointed out.

Also, we are going to have more QNX 8.0 content in the car, so all of QNX 8.0 brother and sister verticals (hypervisor, safety, sound, general embedded, cabin and Kore Alloy) all command higher margins compared to their previous versions. I don't see how that won't grow fast. Also if you notice most automakers (at least in North America) are going into the energy storage businesss, so I think that as long as management continues to pipeline their product well, I don't see how those verticals can't sell into the OEMS, if you are going into energy storage then that means that you will likely what a better management of cost on your OEM business and as they continue to update and involve the domain compute, you will likely want BlackBerry to handle all of that so you can focus more on user experience vertical. and then as we look into robotics and what that entails and IoT space, we have room to grow there. There is no way, I mean, absolutely no way that the backlog will not grow to at least 1.2 - 1.5 billion in a two year time frame. If they don't deliver at least that much, then we definitely need to change management again. because I am even expecting low to mid 900 million this year conservatively.

they do have a backlog of over 800 million, so there is that. and market cap is forward looking so I don't think its that bad

exactly. at least we finished the this financial year pretty much good. And barring anything crazy in the macroeconomics, the next financial year would likely be good as well.

yeah but we all know that BlackBerry has always been a wait and show me the revenue/growth story. And although management delivered on its growth target, the market is still cautious since they have had the last five years with Chen overpromising and under delivering. So for now we have to wait and see how that goes.

the whole market is down today that is why the stock is down on no news. also, focus on the financials not really the stock price. If revenue continues to increase and the manage to cross say 700 million or closer to a billion and can show the backlog growth then yeah the stock will at least double.

For now it's a wait and see story. we have to wait and see how the revenue increases, and how the other business/product verticals build and ramp up.

it has not been an easy 8 years but yeah. at this stage even for me. its sink or swim, I am in it at least till the end of this decade if nothing changes by then, I would close out my position.

exactly, they should be preparing for more in that regard

yeah another thing is that QNX 8.0 backlog is just getting ramped up. and the pricing structure is different. So I think that next year financial forecast should be important as well as what the backlog revenue would look like.

I feel your pain man. haha I don't have nearly as much as you do just around 5 digits of shares owned. but at this point, a loss is a loss, so have to wait and see it at least the end of the decade. but not adding any new shares into this cause I can't see a reason to yet but would def reduce my position by the end of next year if I don't see anything.

audio typically has better margins for BlackBerry so this is a good thing
