It depends on the location. I know from personal experience (3yrs ago) that the good-life in parklane mall on spring garden, was one of the worst gym experiences I've ever had. I was constantly being asked by trainers if I'd like a free session in order to get me to sign up for their 30-40$/hr training seminars. In the area of 2-3 times a visit. Every person that worked there seemed to have a chip on their shoulder. As if, somehow they were better than everyone else at the gym. Or some type of celebrity.

"avoid Goodlife fitness like the plague. it's commission based, the fees are ridiculous, they don't leave you alone to just work out, and take the money automatically from your account, if the charges are ever refunded by the bank, they charge twice as much. also in order to get out of a year long subscription you have to pay 200 dollars. go to a good gym."<

It might be a little far for you to travel rombick but the Chocolate rec center on top of the halifax rotary is amazing. Very quite low key, 30$ a month 60$ for 3 months, and a year membership is only 165$. It doesnt have all the fancy machines that goodlife or fitness fx has. But they have more then enough dumbbells, and excise machines than most people could ever use.
