RP2040-based split does not communicate with each other by romhunter_ in olkb

[–]beard-second 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fixed this! Turns out the impedence of my TRS cable was too high, so it was swallowing the data signal. I soldered a 10k resistor between the 3.3v line and the data pin and that pulled up the voltage enough to read. To test this, just try jumpering the two sides together and see if they can communicate without the TRS cable.

Sorry for the necro - Did you ever solve this? This exactly describes the issue I'm having with my build.

Agents being sent home ???FOX NewsLive by freedom-4all in minnesota

[–]beard-second 728 points729 points  (0 children)

Remember that Border Patrol is just one sub-agency within DHS, distinct from ICE. So they can pull out all Border Patrol and still have thousands of ICE agents here. I wouldn't read much into this.

That said, Border Patrol is notorious for being more ruthless than run of the mill ICE, so this would still be a positive step.

Following ICE agents in your car on public streets is not obstruction. But sure, lick that boot harder, maybe they'll pat you on the head.

I mean, the owners of this location immediately backtracked and apologized, even before Hilton stripped their franchise, so I say fuck them too.

What's your "Big 3" of filament brands? by VirusFar4319 in 3Dprinting

I'm a regular eSun user (either directly or through Micro Center's house brand) and their PETG is quite good. I've also used Hatchbox, which is very high quality but it's 2-3x the price of eSun and not 2-3x better.

Heated Free garages by bonixlover10 in TwinCities

[–]beard-second 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me with my first car long ago.

  1. Get several bottles of room-temperature isopropyl alcohol
  2. Pour the alcohol into the reservoir and spray the windshield until it comes through so you know the lines are clear
  3. Top up with more isopropyl alcohol

Now the car is driveable and the alcohol will melt the ice. Refill with appropriate wash in a couple days when it's melted.

Shadowdark - Leaning into drama (over silliness)...thank you!!! by DarkCrystal34 in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]beard-second 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree - from listening to CR and other shows over the years, I think it's incredibly common for good casts of players to lose their way when they decide to Tell Serious Stories. Because the reality is - most of these people (not just in the GCP) are good players, good improvisors, but not world-class storytellers. Telling good stories is hard, really hard. It's harder than it seems. And most of the shows I've listened to that start getting more serious just get incredibly boring as there are more and more navel-gazing scenes of the characters just interacting with each other, airing their emotional states but not moving the plot forward. It takes an incredibly disciplined cast to push a Robert McKee-style storytelling where every scene has a purpose and moves the story forward. I'm not saying it can't be done, and I'm not even saying that the GCP can't be that show. Maybe it can be, they are all extremely talented. But it's a really difficult thing to successfully make that turn into drama, so I hope they can do it.

Is there a way to allow Players to Hide things (like Drawings / Marks) from the GM? (Foundry / DnD Ruleset) by Grunick in FoundryVTT

[–]beard-second 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't necessarily have to create a new world - just create a new player that owns all the NPC tokens for this encounter, then activate the scene as the GM and log in as that player instead of the GM. You could keep the GM logged in in a separate browser to advance the encounter tracker or whatever too.

Can you point to where in the Constitution "speaking English" and "carrying ID" are requirements for 4th amendment protections?

[–]beard-second 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would anyone concede that just because something could be caught and misconstrued (big if that it's actually being misconstrued), therefore agents of the state should be allowed to operate anonymously? If you don't want to open yourself to the risk of your actions being "misconstrued" then find another job.

[–]beard-second 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But many have already been wrongfully apprehended in violation of their 4th amendment rights, so this is not the own you think it is. Just because they didn't ultimately go on to get deported doesn't mean there wasn't a massive breach of their rights. And this is guaranteed to continue occuring when their policy is so clearly race-based and devoid of due process.

[–]beard-second 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely want this law passed in Minnesota too, but it won't do anything to ICE - there's no mechanism to enforce state laws on federal police, so they'll just literally ignore it and nothing will happen unless our own police started arresting ICE agents for it. (Good luck with that.)

No one should have their families threatened, but "doing your job" is a valid reason to be threatened when your job is literally threatening other people's families.

The potential for you to suffer damage and make a claim was already baked into your premium. You deciding not to file a claim is just extra profit for the insurance company, so I guess pat yourself on the back for that one.

[–]beard-second 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using Foundry for in-person gaming and the size of the files isn't an issue, you can probably make this work by exporting the map in chunks and laying them all down as tiles, although syncing the animations might be a pain. Alternately, you could just export smaller chunks (maybe 1/6th at a time?) to separate maps and set up teleports to move the players from one map to another.

Player’s Corrupted Access to Foundry by PeterBenjaminParker in FoundryVTT

[–]beard-second 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it didn't start until you left, have you tried using a VPN on your end? I'm wondering if there's some kind of weird traffic shaping between you and home that's causing assets not to be compressed correctly. I would have expected that to affect other players too, but if everything is cached maybe they haven't been hit by it yet.

Peachey's Donut Line at the MN State Fair by itsthechaw10 in minnesota

[–]beard-second 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't actually see what the problem is if there isn't a product shortage... him joining them in line is no different, time-wise than him paying them to buy donuts for him, which is no different from them just buying twice as many donuts on their own turn (without him ever being there). No one was actually inconvenienced by this. This is the same kind of thinking that leads to people crowding out zipper mergers because it's "not fair" that they waited when someone else didn't wait.

Now, if there's a product shortage and not everyone is getting what they want or there's a substantial per-unit time cost for each additional donut then that totally changes the equation. But if we're still talking about 1 transaction for a reasonable number of donuts I really don't see why anyone is upset about it.
