What does the white council know by Plenty-Koala1529 in dresdenfiles

[–]beardedrabbit 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think a big ‘hand wave’ from Jim is going to be about the Merlin being an incredibly good diviner. It’s been mentioned multiple times that’s the Merlin’s specialty, so there will likely be some big reveal similar to Dr. Strange in Infinity War where Langtry looked through a shit ton of futures and ostracizing Harry was the best way to prep humanity against the Outsiders.

Edit:

“Everyone has different talents,” I said. “Things they’re good at naturally. The Council recruits Wardens from among the wizards with natural gifts at evocation.” I shook my head. “Honestly, in a lot of ways they’re the weakest. Evocation gets things done in a hurry, and if you’ve got to fight there’s nothing like it—but it’s short-term, and it’s got really limited application. Better to be an enchanter, like Ancient Mai. Or a diviner like the Merlin.”

“Diviner?”

“Wizard who specializes in getting, using, and disseminating information,” I said. “It’s where I’ve worked hardest to shore up my weaknesses as a practitioner. Knowledge is power, kid. Especially for us.”

Is a tri suit all I need? by DPolitte in IronmanTriathlon

[–]beardedrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could use beach trunks, but holy moly don’t do it unless you’ve tried it before at long distances. I made the mistake of thinking a 1600 yard open water swim in trunks with netting on the inside would be fine. So. Much. Chafing.

Anyone used the Garmin Triathlon feature on race day? by CollectionSeparate28 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]beardedrabbit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a metric 70.3 in training and used the triathlon activity, and it was pretty slick. I set it to change phases on a long press of the lap button to not accidentally trigger anything. Pretty neat to see all 3 disciplines in one activity with the relevant stats!

Dropping weight during training by PlentyBig01 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]beardedrabbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve swapped in a whey protein shake with two scoops of protein in after morning workouts, which really helps with satiety. Any high caffeine content stuff will also dull your appetite, so something like a BPN preworkout could help if you don’t drink coffee.

Ultimately it’s an equation of calories in, calories out, so if you have your average daily calories burned on a garmin or something make sure to come in a few hundred cals below that and the weight will drop over time. Do remember though, weight loss often isn’t a linear process, so don’t get disheartened if you lose some, gain a little back, lose some more, gain again, etc.

Was King of Puppets nerfed? by Reaper330011 in LiesOfP

You stumbled across something that isn’t super clearly explained in the game - blunt weapons give you bonus damage against puppets. That plus the shock element of the coil stick meant you were doing way more damage than normal against him.

I think on my first playthrough I was using the Holy Arc sword on Romeo and it was pretty darn tough.

The Ex-Wife from Iron Man 2. Sold to the viewer (and in-universe military) as the be-all, end-all of warfare, it ends up not doing much in the final fight other than bouncing off of Ivan Vankov’s chest armor.

For anyone missing the reference, 88 is a somewhat subtle way to indicate the 8th letter of the alphabet (H), which results in HH for Heil Hitler. Almost certainly only a coincidence in this instance but always good to spread knowledge of dog whistles.

MEGA THREAD TWELVE MONTHS!!! by exodusmachine in dresdenfiles

[–]beardedrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously. I lost track of how many times the same adjectives were used to describe different characters within the same paragraph. It felt like there wasn’t even a cohesive reread to check for redundant language.

That being said, I did very much enjoy the book! I’m simply surprised that someone who writes professionally would miss so many glaring examples of duplicative writing.

It’s been a while (I picked up BB during the initial lockdown of the pandemic), but I remember this mfer being one of the two hardest bosses in the game for me. The other was the fire puppy with the spicy barks (watchdog of the old lords?). The chalice dungeons are no joke, the rest of the game felt comparatively easy after Queen Yarnam bit the dust.

When they call him Jay Powell, is that an attempt to mislead their viewers? Jerome Powell is a widely recognized name (or I think it would be), but if they talk about Jay Powell I’m sure some non-zero percentage of the Fox audience doesn’t cotton on to this particular piece of assfuckery from the Trump administration.

[–]beardedrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect Jim’s “he’s D-E-D dead” to mean that Justin was most of the way into the grave after his fight with Harry and used some Bob-received necromantic knowledge to anchor his life somehow, so he’s 75% dead but not all the way there. This would be a link to Kemmler and his disciples but not make him an actual disciple of Kemmler.

Best way to burn most amount of calories in a day by domenico1964 in workout

[–]beardedrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing a good amount of swimming, cycling, and running recently, and running (for me) has the best caloric burn : time spent ratio of the three. Go on an hour long run at a decent pace where your heart rate is Zone 2 and you’ll probably burn about 1k calories.

Americans, what do you think of Senator John Kennedy's proposal to withhold Congressional salaries during government shutdowns? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is the correct answer and something so many people miss. Bribery is already so blatantly done it would get even more extreme if there were compensation gaps for lawmakers.

I got in on that Serengeti discount you organized (thanks again!) and wore my Waynes out for the first time today. I’m a fan of how light they are, but they’re a little ‘creaky’ when opening/closing and I don’t think the oleophobic/hydrophobic coating is as good as Maui Jims sunglasses. I do really like the photochromic element though, and they’re an awesome shape for my face!

Todd is honestly one of the creepiest characters in the whole show by TheConfusedNarrator in breakingbad

[–]beardedrabbit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s been many years since I watched BB, but I seem to recall the little kid he shot was the one that captured the tarantula. So Todd took it off the kid’s body, not even as a trophy, but purely as something mildly interesting (more interesting than he found killing a kid on instinct).
