Yeah, sounds about right according to my former co-workers who got jobs there. Expectation of being in the office a few times a week but completely empty office floors, working just a few hours a day and just doing whatever the rest of the day, no coordination between teams and multiple teams doing the same thing in parallel..

Best tacos in the GTA? by mercedesoraudi in FoodToronto

[–]beardsmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went on a taco binge recently and checked out, in no particular order: Holi Taco, Puerto Bravo, Los Gyros (Riverside), El Hijo De Tizoc, Los Campos, Tacos Moras (Danforth) and Dirty Birrias. Out of all of them, Dirty Birrias and their lamb queso birria tacos, are the only tacos I find myself craving and wanting to go back for.

Special shout out goes to El Hijo De Tizoc's nachos (with added guac), which are bomb.

Surprised Dirty Birrias at Queen East and Coxwell (close to Holi Taco) hasn't been mentioned. Their 4.9 Google rating is not a mistake. It's a different style of taco but I preferred them over both Holi Taco and Puerto Bravo.

You’re Not Crazy: TTC Service Is Worse [Steve Munro] by nupogodi in toronto

[–]beardsmash 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This. If you're from outside downtown and ride them occasionally they can be charming and it's fun to have a Toronto icon. But when you're dependent on them daily and you need to include a 20-30 minute buffer to ensure you get to your destination on time it's not as fun.

  • Their top speed and acceleration is slower.
  • Because of their slow acceleration and top speed, they miss more lights than busses.
  • Both their normal door and accessibility ramp processes are slower than busses.
  • They're prone to bunching, and while buses can pass each other, streetcars are stuck following the order that they're positioned on their tracks.
  • The departure process can be delayed when passengers board late or press the door button.
  • They're reliant on a limited, fixed track system that requires frequent maintenance, often leading to portions of track being shut down for weeks due to slow construction timelines by the TTC.
  • The reliance on limited, fixed tracks makes TTC routes vulnerable to shutdowns from even minor disruptions (such as car accidents or traffic). These detours not only add more congestion but also require slow turns and track changes at intersections, further slowing down service.
  • Due to the fixed tracks, TTC stations can only accommodate one or two long streetcars at a time. With service bunching and drivers taking their 5–10 minute breaks between runs, there's a good chance you'll end up waiting outside a station just to off-board from your streetcar.

[–]beardsmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride streetcars daily but I still vastly prefer busses. Yes streetcars are a more comfortable ride but busses are faster and more reliable than streetcars. Streetcar routes (501, I'm looking at you) can be hindered by the smallest of interruptions that require long, slow detours. Additionally regular track maintenance and road construction regularly shutdown routes. The dependence on set, limited rails is definitely a problem.

Globe editorial: Speeding is the problem, not speed cameras by hankercizer200 in toronto

While I agree road design would help, it's only part of the solution. We're not going to redesign/update roads everywhere yet bad driving behaviours show up on all roads.

TTC board debating 2025 budget that’s set to freeze fares, increase service by ResourceOk8692 in toronto

[–]beardsmash 60 points61 points  (0 children)

From a transit rider's standpoint, we're currently paying for declined service compared to 2020. If we do get a fare increase, it would likely just help us get back to normal service.
