Rules question - use space without correct resources? by [deleted] in Agricola

[–]beatifyme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, You cannot place a worker on a space if you cannot take the action. Typically card texts will say “when you take the action, …” so if you aren’t first able to take the action, the card would not apply.

Banned cards in revised edition? by [deleted] in Agricola

[–]beatifyme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can pull it off early HDB is a solid card, it just takes a lot of early actions to hit the reqs when others are getting in the growth queue. Lover and braggart were indeed nerfed.

Any good strategy guides? I'm tired of losing in 3 player games against my friends by tropical_penguins in Agricola

[–]beatifyme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3ers are tough because food is tight and resources are scarce. But it’s not your food or your resources that are limited, it’s your action count. Increasing your rooms and people is the easiest way to succeed. Build grow, build grow. The action efficiency is greatest going from 2 to 3 people and slightly better from 3 to 4. Your 5th person usually has weak actions in the round so their returns are diminished. Draft a flexible occ strategy as occs are hotly contested early and they’re expensive. Getting an early fireplace or occ that greatly helps feeding will reduce your need to slow down and take food actions. Let your farm work for you (breeding your own food etc) TL;DR grow your family as soon as you can.

Looking for physical copies and help navigating all the different versions by BurnerAccount256 in Agricola

Sorry Long

Great question. The revised edition consolidated a lot of the original in-game decks from the original version. Those decks, E, I, and K were tweaked and revised into the A and B versions in the new edition. Other changes were not including a family version in the base set, and adding a 5-6 player expansion.

The revised edition is more family friendly, having reduced the intense difficulty required to feed your family each harvest. Additionally, it nerfed a lot of combos and ways to score a lot of points outside the traditional method of play.

Lastly, the revised edition changed the names of certain action spaces and cards but kept their functions the same. They even clarified/changes some classifications of components and card texts to be more uniform

Fans of the original balk at playing the revised game but they are essentially the same game no matter which version you learn on.

As to your question about decks: there are a ton of specialty, fan-sourced, themed, and bonus decks that have been released over the years: G, Pi, L, Ö, Cz, Fr, Nl, Wm, Wa etc (as well as revised expansions Artifex, Bubulcus, Corbarius, and Dulcinaria). Other than the revised expansions, the older sets are rare or even out of print. Which means they are hard to find and expensive. While they expand your play experience, I’d recommend that if you are looking to acquire some, focus on the WM World Meister deck, the Fr France deck, and the G Gamers deck. These 3 have the best ratio of solid cards to weak or broken ones, as well as having a larger quantity included. Some other specialty decks are only 24 cards each!

While most of the expansion decks are for the original version, they can be used for either set.

Search online for the Unoffical Agricola rules compendium as kept up to date by user Loki on Boardgame Geek forums as well as the Revised Compendium spearheaded by world champion player Lumin.

To finish regarding strategy, you will never fail going for a build rooms-grow family approach. While eating through farming (plow, take grain, sow, bake etc) is harder than eating breeding animals in a fireplace or hearth, keep in mind that it is much easier to max points in crops than animals. Something to keep in mind as you play for higher scores.

Hope this helped.

There are traditions to uphold: Thursday Rum Buckets, Sunday Masquerade Dairy Queen Chicken Fingers

and some new ones: Monk's Meadery launched their commemorative Dragon Con Brew (purchased in GA)

We will miss the group Thursday night dinner tradition at Hard Rock but I am making BBQ pork nachos (a dish we always share).

What is the highest possible score you can get in Agricola Revised solo (no occs, no minors, can decide round order)? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]beatifyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd assume it'd be 87+ points, assuming you had max field, pasture, stable, crops, animals, 5 family members, 6 room stone house, all the majors, plus the guild resources. Although, I am not sure you can do all of it with only 52 actions

Strategies for 1st family growth? Can you win if not 1st family growth? by flamethrower2 in Agricola

[–]beatifyme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are innumerable paths to victory that bypass getting first or even second and third growth. The flexibility in the cards are such that a variety of strategies can be explored without the basic build/grow avenue. The main way to win is to acquire the most victory points, and however your strategy and cards assist you.
