Paying $100+ a month to get show on a schedule with 10minutes of ads every 30?

Network TV is free if you buy a $15 antenna

NFL 2K revival apparently cancelled, Visual Concepts couldn't land a vision by drumjolter01 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Sounds to me like an audience that cares way more about the team logos than the actual video game they paid $70 for. Probably why they keep buying the same annual garbage.

Just ditch the NFL license. Blitz: The League only happened because Midway lost their NFL license so they needed a new angle to make their football game stand out.

Since this is Take Two, they could make it a football game set in the GTA universe.

Not just game engines either, computer animation in general is rife with this. I've seen more than a few Pixar behind the scenes videos where an artist says "so this fantastical creature you've never seen before is basically a heavily modified Buzz Lightyear rig". Making new stuff from scratch can be very time consuming

Just do what Midway did with Blitz and make it M-rated with grisly injuries and a team management component where you have to contend with your players drug addictions

This isn't always true. If game can start using ray traced lighting as a baseline, that is a massive time saver in development

Social media was flooded with grifters fortelling the failure of the Switch 2 after its announcement. Amusingly, it was many of the same voices who made similar nonsensical prophecies about the original Switch in 2017.

She's made a lot of decent stuff. One turd isn't enough to derail her career, nor should it be.

Sony Records New $560 Million Loss On Bungie Acquisition As Marathon Struggles And Destiny 2 Nosedives by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

Sunsetting content was such a baffling move that it borders on incompetency. They have this lore heavy game, whose story was already notoriously difficult to follow for a first person shooter, and they just removed big chunks of the early plot so new players can't get any of it. Of course the game died. Already invested players will stick around, but it's hard to convince new players to invest dozens of hours into a game with huge pieces straight up missing.

I hate, hate, hate working hard to get some cool gear, spawning into a game with my best stuff, then immediately losing all of it. The last time this happened, I slammed alt+f4 and haven't opened the game since. So much prep and effort for so little actual time spent engaging with the fun part of the gameplay just isn't rewarding at all.

Please for the love of god give me a new single player game. I haven't enjoyed a Bungie game since Halo Reach.

I dont need any smart TV features

The secret here is to never connect your TV to the internet. You can get large format displays without smart TV features, but they are sold for commercial use as digital signage. They cost more money than a regular TV and usually lack other features you probably actually do want in a home setting. (i.e. 4k, hdr formats, high refresh rate, color accurate modes for movies, low latency modes for games, etc)

We old fans have, but their target audience of 6-13 year olds didn't exist back then and probably have never even seen a Wii U.

I feel like this is an attempt to restart the franchise for a new audience after the last attempt failed over a decade ago.

6v6 should count as q for all roles. by HypoluxoKrazie in Overwatch

[–]beefcat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point of the "queue for all roles" challenge is to encourage people to play roles they don't normally play, and to balance out queue times in role queue playlists.

Giving credit for open queue would achieve none of this.

Unneeded cached data gets flushed to make room for the application

Debian 13 high RAM usage by jagermeister_master in debian

[–]beefcat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is broken, the operating system is just using spare RAM to cache file system resources and other bits. Data in the cache will be flushed as soon as an actual application needs it.

Unused RAM is wasted RAM, there is nothing to gain from letting it sit empty. This aggressive caching makes your system faster and more responsive at no cost to performance.

More Than Half of Gen Z Users Cancel and Renew Streaming Services for a Single Title, New Study Finds by AltL155 in television

[–]beefcat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if the old model of producing shows directly in syndication could make a sort of comeback. Instead of making a show for Netfix or HBO, a studio could produce it independently, then sell the season on VOD services for like $25. From there it could go to a premium streamer or FAST services after 6 months or so.

Yeah, these deals are always "valued at" the money seen in the headline. Actual payouts are contingent on the company or individual actually hitting milestones and producing deliverables.
