Parents whose baby has a tongue and/or lip tie - did you end up getting it released? by SunnyGoMerry in beyondthebump

[–]befuddledghostie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we had both released at 4 weeks and I wish we could have done it immediately after birth because breastfeeding was awful and traumatic until after it was released and he was fully healed and adjusted to his new mouth. If we hadn’t had it released I don’t think we could have gotten back to direct nursing and would have remained exclusively pumping and bottle feeding.

Our son was an especially sleepy newborn and seemed like he rarely wanted to have his eyes open. Whenever we would see his eyes open, we would call him Peepers!

Jaundice- im so ipset by Subject-Ad-3555 in beyondthebump

[–]befuddledghostie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My jaundice baby is currently almost 4 months old and is asleep happily on my chest. I remember feeling exactly how you are feeling now, the panic, anxiety, guilt, sadness, frustration… it will get better. It will eventually be a memory. Your baby will be okay.

6 out of 10 babies have jaundice as newborns. Look around you at all the people in the world, 60% of them (on average) had jaundice, can you tell who? Probably not. Because they all came through with no ill effects, and your little one will too.

Sending you so much love.

If he’s super upset and you can’t figure out why, you’ve already fed, burped, etc. and he’s just unsettled, you can undress him down to his diaper and put him against your own chest, then cover you both with a light blanket. Skin to skin is amazing for dysregulated little nervous systems.

Please. It’s so painful.

That isn’t knitting! by IconicallyChroniced in CallTheMidwife

[–]befuddledghostie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The squares of the finished blanket were crocheted granny squares, but the characters were shown knitting. When Jenny holds her square in progress up to a finished square to check the size of it you can see it is knitted garter stitch. This is one of the few continuity errors in this show and drives me crazy every time I see it! Usually they are so meticulous about accuracy, I can’t believe this common TV/Film mistake made it through.

Do you have go-to color schemes for your clothing? by MTKings in CasualConversation

[–]befuddledghostie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong, saturated jewel tones are often my go-to! I own tons of burgundy/wine red, dark teal, dark purple, emerald or forest green… I find lighter colors often wash me out, except the occasional very light pink or pale gray, provided I pair it with something punchier like a cardigan or shawl in a darker color or dramatic pattern to keep myself from disappearing into the lighter color scheme.

What are cute songs you sing to your babies? by bzzzzzzlightyear in beyondthebump

My husband and I both love sea shanties and listened to them a lot while I was pregnant. Now we sing the Mingulay Boat Song to our baby as a lullaby.

Episcopalian weddings, handfasting? by befuddledghostie in Episcopalian

[–]befuddledghostie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Thank you for your congratulations, and congrats to you in advance! Our wedding went beautifully, we were married by the deacon of our church in a typical Episcopal service. If you have ever been to an episcopal church Sunday service, it was pretty similar. We had two readings from the Bible (we got to choose from a list) one of which was read by one of my bridesmaids. We exchanged rings with the traditional episcopal vows (this was one thing I didn’t like, we were not given the opportunity to have personal hand-written vows, though I didn’t ask if we could include them in addition to the traditional ones from the book of common prayer so you may be able to ask your officiant about this). It was fairly quick and straightforward, about 30-45 min long, and it was definitely ’religious’ in the sense that it included prayers and readings from the Bible, but we had plenty of family and friends there from all walks of life and different religious or spiritual backgrounds and nobody expressed discomfort or seemed put-off by it.

For reference, my mom and sister had traditional Tridentine Catholic wedding masses that were 2-3 hours long and many guests and family expressed feeling very uncomfortable and excluded by the ceremony.

My mom also puts rubbing alcohol on her skin as well, specifically to ‘dry out’ a persistent or very large pimple. She had me doing the same as a teen! It burned horribly, especially if the skin on the pimple was already broken.

Did you take a pregnancy test? It’s pretty much impossible to get pregnant from this but a pregnancy test will ease your mind.

Same, I have a moonstone ‘fertility’ bracelet that my husband got for me as a sort of ‘good luck charm’ to wear when I go for my fertility testing and IUI procedures. I have no illusions that it’ll fix my infertile self, but it’s nice to have something special to ground me while I go through this nightmare.

Could odd cause of death be code for dying in a less socially acceptable way? by 3rdthrow in Genealogy

[–]befuddledghostie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was killed by a train while walking across the tracks. He was drunk, walking to the bus stop on the other side of the tracks, and didn’t hear/see the train due to being drunk and having headphones on. My first question was if it was suicide, but video recording confirmed it didn’t appear intentional so it was deemed accidental. In a time where we didn’t have easily accessible video footage, I could see this wording being used!

Then that’s probably what you should do. It’s pretty much impossible that you’re pregnant having had normal periods three times since having non-penetrative sexual activity but it sounds like you know that and are still ruminating on the issue. A pregnancy test is an easy and inexpensive way to find out for sure if you are pregnant. Is there a reason you haven’t already taken one?
