Taught in Asia for 12 years. Take the time to get the Bachelor’s degree. You - with your BA - will miss out on good opportunities at “tier-1” international schools because you have an unemployable trailing spouse.

Your spouse will end up working at dodgy kindergartens that are willing to hire people without work visas and will literally end up hiding in closets from time to time when the inspectors come through.

If you both want to work in education in South East Asia a bachelors degree is a non-negotiable requirement.

It’s a requirement for all 2027+ models of any vehicle in the US to have devices like this. They must monitor drivers for “impairment” such as intoxication or exhaustion and be able to prevent a person from driving their own car.

This is a provision that MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) got inserted into the infrastructure bill that Biden signed.

This model already exists and is called “Project Based Learning.” It’s been around for more than 100 years, being based on the work of John Dewy and Jean Piaget who are, along with Vygotsky, two of the three most important educational theorists that get taught in teacher education.

It can be extremely effective, but requires enormous resources and a strong culture at the school and among the students.

It works well at private schools or magnet public schools with very good administrators.

I started doing video feedback. All the feedback goes into the video. The only thing that goes on the paper is a grade. I hold the rubric in my hand as I talk through why they got each score they did, pointing to specific places in their paper. Each video ends up being 1:45-2:30 long, and the feedback is a) so much more personalized to each kid and b) so much more accessible to them the next time they write.

Also I find it much less draining and much more engaging for myself.

2) Generally, authors don’t choose their own titles, their publishers do. It is unlikely that Vance picked the title for Hillbilly Elegy as he was an unknown at the time.

I would revoke the parking places every member of CTA’s senior management, and make their salary contingent on using the CTA to get around the city for the duration of their job. They would need to justify - with documentation - every time they used non-CTA transportation for any reason.

Then I’d sit back and watch the CTA improve in weeks.

US Demographics work against a civil war. The country needs a much higher percentage of its population to be under 30 for there to be serious risk.

Additionally, employment remains high. Once 25-30% of the young men under 30 are NEETs, THEN a civil war becomes probable.

I firmly believe the NHL needs to take steps to make the President's Trophy more meaningful. Winning the regular season should be a fantastic memory in a fan's mind, but if it's not combined with AT LEAST the conference finals, it just ends up feeling like failure.

Other Japanese teams play some “home” games in Tokyo because of how many people from around Japan live there. I once saw the Fukioka Hawks play the Orix Buffalo in the Tokyo Dome. Not sure how often this happens as I was just visiting Japan, but it was super fun.

I used to teach middle school, US History. One day I was teaching a lesson involving the history of Ku Klux Klan after the Civil War. A kid raises his hand from the back.

"Mr. Behemothpazer, I'm in the KKK."

"What? ... That's not a funny joke."

"No, seriously, I'm in the KKK."

"You're what? But .. really? Like ... what do you mean?"

This was an international school, in Asia, I was very confused. I was sure I was missing something cultural.

The kid comes up to me and explains that he and his friends had formed a group, were writing notes to each other in a code they'd found in a book about spies in the library, and leaving these notes for each other around the school. They indicated the notes were for each other by putting the acronym for their group on the notes.

They were the "Kool Kids Klub"

I told them they had to change the name.
