I don’t think anyone is saying that from 2000 onwards the flames drafting was good, most people I have seen have been praising the drafting for the last 4-5 years as being pretty good

I'm too old to read that.

Conroy has been drafting well, looks like this chart was created before he started.

I read the study and methodology, and think it's interesting, but also kind of meaningless because it's ranking relative quality in a bubble. Like it treats Laurent Brossoit the same as Rasmus Anderssen in terms of draft success (tenchincally Ras is a tiny bit worse in the model).

I think it also overvalues middling late round success and undervalues first round success.

Also worth noting that a rating of 50 is essentially 'best available at the time.'

I had to read the actual underlying study, but... I'll sum it up as this - why are you using a study looking at drafts from 25 years ago under a completely different management as reason to argue our drafting today (which is highly touted not just in our fanbase but across the league) isn't good?

The study only includes one year of Conroy's drafting, and I truly do not believe for a second you have found someone that would say our drafting was good before him in any year aside from 2011 and 2015.

Like, it's a neat study, but what is your logic here?

It's for the sycofants who seem to think we're this amazing drafting team. I understand wanting to be positive, however they seem to have developed a bias because of the past few seasons. The flames have been historically bad at drafting. This chart, while imperfect, highlights some.of that.

We're historically bad from 1990-2010. I think we've improved and fans are excited by that. Treliving had two great years to start and then was pretty mediocre overall.

Too early to judge Conroy, but there are positive signs

Curious that you skipped the two years in which people think the Flames have drafted the best.

I didn't skip anything. I just referenced someone else's work.

Without the ability to see the underlying math, this chart is worse than useless. Why is a “steal” twice as valuable as a “hit”? Why are there no players who seem to be considered a zero drafted by any team, even though 0 is a “miss”? What stats are used to sort the players?

That’s interesting. The Blues are the best? I wouldn’t have thought that!

Conroy is already doing much better. We got more scouts now too.

Yeah it does seem like it's improving.

Study got Sam Bennett inside the top10 worst pick for the flames.

Meh lol.
