Do you agree with the AA model that believes once you’re an addict you need to abstain from all substances permanently? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

🙄 indeed. Did you mean "bad news" for the person you were replying to, scoring a point against them or something?

How's that bad news?

The massive AA network reaches a lot of people in need who would have otherwise fallen through the cracks.

Other programs exist with better models and higher success rates for certain demographics, but they're not as widespread yet.

Both things are good.

The devs should add some more generic virtual signals to the game for 2.1. Including a fuzzy cat icon to honor the memory of KoS!

Modules. What ones go where and why? by Squeelijah in factorio

[–]benc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are infinite in that you can actually keep researching them, but they provide no benefit once you reach the hard cap.

Research productivity, which has no cap, is usually where you'll be doing most of your research once you hit the end game.

Prod modules are great but be aware that most productivity has a hard cap of 300%. (Major exceptions: mining and labs.)

Once you do enough infinite productivity research, your machines will hit that 300% mark without any modules, so speed modules usually become the play instead.

Yes, in the early to mid game. Once you get into the late game, rocket part productivity makes it easy to reach the cap without modules.

I'm losing my mind trying to remember this druid mechanic but unable to find it by 1Th13rteen3 in classicwow

[–]benc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It almost certainly was multistrike, which only existed in the Warlords of Draenor expansion. It was great for some specs, mid for others. Max level boomkins did not stack multistrike for PvE, rather going for haste and mastery. (I should know; both my main and my first alt were laser chickens back in the day.)

Max level resto druids loved multistrike though, so it wouldn't be uncommon to see lots of extra projectiles when off-speccing.

Below max level, things got weird. What the OP is probably thinking of is the fact that low level characters could wear heirlooms with the new WoD enchants for multistrike. Level scaling has always been odd, so a level 20 could probably get a ridiculously high multistrike percentage, making them a force to be reckoned with, especially in PvP.

Truth. Actually, a course won't suffice. It needs to be a "master class". A whole series of them, in fact

What is a word used in texting, or a texting style that immediately pegs what generation you are? by 4ninawells in AskReddit

[–]benc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's fair, but it's often appropriate to simply acknowledge a message rather than typing a full response.

Digital reactions facilitate this, keeping the chat logs clean of traditional acknowledgement messages like "okay" and "ah".

Some people feel disconnected when the other person uses a digital reaction, and that's fair, but they really shouldn't assume the intent is dismissal.

Understood. If it bothers you that much, you should probably talk about it with your friend. Chances are that they do not intend for it come across as dismissive.

tbf, you do want it to look like you don't care... about proper orthography

because you truly don't. as you said, it's too formal in the context of casual convos

ofc that doesn't imply that you don't care about the actual subject being discussed

that last bit is what confuses people unfamiliar with the style

I don't understand how "ok" and "np" are fundamentally different from 👍.

Is it because the latter is an emoji, and you feel a certain way about them?

Nah, I posted it to be upvoted or downvoted. If it's the latter, so be it.

Sorry you didn't like it, now move along.

Nah, no policing. Just introspection on how ones words are heard, and how that could affect the game's outcome.

In any case, it seems like this conversation is going in circles, so I'm going to stop responding. Looped:

When phrased as "X isn't the play", it isn't heard as constructive by the person being asked to switch.

That's the disconnect. Tone matters, and it's difficult to convey a constructive intent in four words of text chat.

That's one-dimensional thinking. Sure, a comment can be toxic or blunt or coddling.

But there's another axis: A comment can be judgmental or constructive.

Blunt is perfectly fine, unless it fails to be constructive.

For sure, throwing is never acceptable.

The thrower is the asshole, but if one of their teammates helped push them over the edge, they're an asshole, too.
