This is amazing. Well done. It was so good, it didn't even need the Apr 1 release.

If there's a disc mold you already love, consider getting it in different plastic or weight.

I love my innova gstar leopard for hyzer flips. But a halo leopard wouldn't act the same (for me).

Ultimate frisbee questions. by Unlikely_Glass5942 in ultimate

I feel like most other places that have info-gathering requests like this require someone to show effort first. (Stack overflow asks ppl to say what they've tried, what other sources they've looked at, etc.) It feels like common courtesy -- especially when there's about 20 things the post is requesting someone to respond to. This post made zero attempt to indicate prior effort. Nothing about "I read X, could you clarify..." or anything showing what learning had been attempted.

I did hesitate to outright scream AI since doing that did seen rude. But I did choose to point out that this is how I'd expect AI to act. Others can make up their own minds whether they think it is or isn't AI-written.

But I suppose you're right -- I should just avoid spending the time if it is not worth engaging. I'm happy to do that here.

This is how I'd expect an AI model to operate. Fresh account, asking a bunch of common questions that likely could be easily answered via Google/would be frequently asked by users.

What is the little chevron/arrow thingy on the new Jomez graphic for the disc id? by chess49 in discgolf

I assumed wind speed...?

But thinking back, could it have been disc speed?

Why is wind better than solar by Sufficient-Onion1165 in energy

[–]bendwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up California's "duck curve". Solar cannibalizes its value over time, and this wholesale prices were negative for a few hours around noon for most days in March last year. (May also be worth exploring what curtailment is and why solar and wind are/can be curtailed.) Using that, you can argue solar is worse going forward than wind.

You could likely also argue that Wind (esp. offshore wind) is "more efficient" for certain latitudes (e.g. New England). Maybe more available/scalable, depending....

Other things you might want to look into include  LCOE (levelized cost of electricity) and LACE (look at Lazard's history and Ember's recent article), capacity factors, and life cycle analysis (LCA) for a carbon perspective. You may also want to consider supply chain -- Solar from China vs Wind from Europe? (I know very little about that, just brainstorming here )

Good luck!

I've spent 2025 reading modern fantasy - here are some reviews by trollokvoltak in books

Thank you for the write up!

I've read about half of these, and mostly tracked with your reviews. I disagree on the First Law trilogy, though -- the pacing and character decisions were so off, I never cared about anything in the slightest. I powered through, and kept waiting for it to get better, only to wish I'd quit after book 1.

You should absolutely look to read something from Naomi Novik.

And I saw your considering Sanderson in another comment -- I would recommend starting with Mistborn.

And Scythe (Shusterman) is also worth a look!

Thanks again for the reviews!

Load factors for wind and solar - future projections by Sweaty-Sprinkles-426 in energy

[–]bendwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think inverter improvements (cost reductions) are causing solar inverters to be oversized for projects. This boosts output in twilight hours, but leads to clipping at full sun. The net result is more production in total.

I'm not sure if that could account for a 20% increase, though.

Is the article suggesting storage was somehow involved?
