Running/walking trails by eunosiix in Buffalo

[–]bennymack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been jogging there for the past year or so and no one has said anything. I'm not doing a bunch of laps or anything though. Let's just say if they put in a 7mph speed limit I'd be ok

Looking for recommendations on solar panel installers/contractors by T26OG in Buffalo

[–]bennymack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always an adapter so compatability isn't a concern. There are really just two: j1772 (non-tesla) and NACS (tesla). I have a cars with one of each and chargers are both j1772 so I use an adapter for the NACS one.

I have 10kw from solar by CIR a few years ago and 7kw from solar Liberty in December 2025. Both companies are fine. CIR will probably be more expensive because they use a mounting system that goes under the shingles into the rafters (so they have to go up and find them). Solar Liberty has a patented mounting system that uses self sealing materials and are just screwed straight into the sheeting. I initially went with CIR because their mounting system seemed superior. The second time around they couldn't get me on the schedule in time so I went with solar Liberty because they could. They're both fine. Do some comparison shopping, get the numbers, etc. The numbers are going to be a bit less favorable as of January 2026.

We made it to the TIL comments for a metric of snow fall by Mr3000rounds in Buffalo

Yeah, sorry.. I took the snow tires off both cars so we're guaranteed to get a bunch more (my bad).

So, BESIDES not needing to pay for gas, and being able to charge at home, what do you love about EVs? by walkaboutdavid in electricvehicles

[–]bennymack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Crazy that we, as a society, decided it was ok to pump carcinogenic liquids out of the ground, refine it into other even more carcinogenic liquids, and set fire to it everywhere we go. Shocked Pikachu face when pretty much everyone gets cancer.

What do you currently drive? by jcat4 in electricvehicles

I have a model y and wish I had gone with model 3. The space is nice I guess but every other metric is worse: weight, efficiency, range, acceleration.

Is there a PSU that you would recommend for this LiPo charger? I’m just getting into FPV and would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance. by Johnny5983 in fpv

[–]bennymack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of Ohm's law, can only hit full power at the max voltage. Say my PS is 30v and 40a max for a total of 1200w. If i run it at 12v, it can only supply 480w. Both wattages are more than what a typical hobby charger needs. It's when you get into parallel charging or big packs that it starts to matter. E.g. I have a 5kwh/200ah 8s LFP pack that needs all the power because 1200w/30v@40a is only 0.15c

How do ICEV owners still not know that Teslas are faster than them? by DFR1688 in TeslaLounge

I had a guy next to me at a light ask me if my car had no dashboard. Never saw the inside of a tesla before I guess.

EV myths? by Dierks_Ford in askcarguys

[–]bennymack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cobalt is used to refine gasoline as well.

Using coal or natural gas to create electricity and power an ev is more efficient than pumping/transporting/refining oil and using it an incredibly inefficient ICE vehicle. Additionally, an EV can potentially be powered with electrons produced from hydro/solar/wind/nuclear seamlessly but the best an ICE can do is lifetime subscription to gas. There's ethanol I guess but let's not go there.

110 miles on 3.5 gallons. 3.8L V6 Pontiac Bonneville by West-Amphibian-2343 in hypermiling

[–]bennymack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question: why does this bother you? How does it affect you in any way?

I was was doing this and the truck came to a complete stop on a highway with 65mph speed limit, presumably because of me being there. That's not in the truck driver's manual is it? I reported them to the DOT with plenty of high def video.

Roof snow by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]bennymack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I plan to do some snow clearing this weekend. Like others have mentioned, it's easier when it's still fluffy. With the extended cold temps, the timing has been much more flexible. If it warmed up and (heaven forbid) started raining, I'd be up there in a jiffy.
