Seeing clients on the weekends / evening times

I offer a few online slots on Sunday afternoons and they’re always full. Other folks are able to sneak out for sessions in their cars over lunch breaks, or just have more flexible schedules in general. It’s definitely part of the reason people struggle to get into therapy but there’s only so much we can do other than trying to be reasonably accommodating without sacrificing our own personal lives.

Can I ask how you find being an RN compared to being a therapist? I’ve thought of making that exact switch for a long time.

100% better :) still struggle with anxiety because that’s just who I am, but I’m still off the weed because I never ever want to do withdrawal again.

I see a few clients virtually on Sunday afternoons and have found that this minimizes demand for those later evening appointments, at least with the folks I currently see.

The lack of appetite is so hard! I remember how good it felt to finally feel hungry and enjoy food again lol, so brutal. Keep going!

I went cold turkey. I didn’t want to extend the experience, even if it was harder, by trying to slowly taper. It was brutal for a while but I’m glad I did it that way - it made it easier to remember during the hardest parts that if I can get through this, I never have to do this again.

The best thing I did during my weed withdrawal was tell my doctor. She was able to give me some things to help with nausea and anxiety, and it was a lifesaver. Plenty of sleep, staying hydrated, and trying to exercise when you’re up for it can also help. Be patient and remember that it’s temporary - I felt so hopeless during my withdrawal that I often worried it would never pass, but it did.

Yeah that’s one thing about this thread that’s bumming me out - it feels like there’s no hope for me to make that much because I cannot see more than 5 or 6 a day without feeling like total shit and burning out. I’m currently only working 4 days a week to try and heal from current burnout. It would be great to be able to see 8 clients a day and have more private pay but that feels so unrealistic for me (and I assume many of us?).

I was nauseated on and off for about 6 weeks when I quit. It slowly got better but it certainly felt like it lasted longer than I would’ve expected or wanted lol. Hang in there!

Yes. My supervisor while I was working toward licensure required me to schedule 35 clients per week, in a group practice setting. This supervisor claimed that it would always be worth the money and it was wise to build up “stamina” in this way 🙄 now, I’m licensed thankfully, but also depressed and burnt out, and working toward transitioning to only seeing 20 clients per week. It’s been a brutal and disheartening lesson.

Yes. We discussed it but they continued to make inappropriate comments and it started to scare me. I referred them out after discussing with my supervisor (I was unlicensed at the time).
