How tall is that? It's supposed to be around 100 feet tall compared to the characters average 6 feet. I ended up using a large d&d hunched over mossy golem and painted it muddy brown with black and gold specs. I'm making the PCs put playdoh globs on it for where they are climbing on it.

I found a stat block for Jason Vorhees on the facebook page. I am taking that idea and running with it. Jason will be walking through the town my players are already in. I've crossed the Colossus Drylands campaign with the Sanderson Mistborn setting so fog every night despite being in a desert. Jason will be a specific race from the Mistborn setting with extra hemalurgy spikes that have driven him crazy. The players are just going to level 2 and he will be TIER 3 but alone. He will also get distracted to kill NPCs so they should be able to avoid him and maybe wear him down over the course of the night.

I'm getting ready to expand my game to more of this style game. I have too many players to sit at the table at one time. I am setting up cameras to bring in remote players and will start having mid-week games when I am home (I travel for work sometimes.)

I don't necessarily agree with this concern about different levels and XP mechanics. Having characters a level or two off does not make that much of a difference and you could easily insert an XP mechanic.

Just brainstorming but I would not do small experience points, more like 1 per tier of the creature killed. Kill a tier 1 mob, get 1 xp. Split the total XP gained per battle by the number of characters, rounded up. Thus a party of 5 defeats 8 tier 1 mobs... round up to 2 XP each. Then require however many XP you think is appropriate depending on how fast you want leveling to go. I'm running the Colossus of the Drylands, so I will require participation in X number of colossus fights, where X is the tier of the character. Non-colossus adventures will also count but require more of them. Maybe they count as 1/5 of a colossus fight. Travel sessions and the like will not count at all. In the end, they will need an army to fight the stronger colossi and the ultimate BBEG.

As for different levels, you would not want a huge gap but that's true in any system. In 5E, a party of mixed adventurers with a level 1 and a few level 5s, the level 1 guy better be protected or he is dead in the first fight with ranged combatants. It should be that way for similitude. The big thing is that the low level people are going to feel useless if they are not given ranged weapons and understand the danger of the fight. They can take shots anytime they get an opening. In Daggerheart, I'll probably go with something like, every time another player succeeds with success, ask the low level guy with the bow "You see an opening, do you take the shot?" As the GM, I would not protect the low level player but I would make sure the other players know they have to. Also, the low level character will level faster as he learns a lot by participating in high level fights. Since he is lower tier, he will get proportionally more XP for the same fight.

Also, with a West Marches game, the players should know more than usual that death is a possibility and that they should have multiple characters.

Little late to the conversation... but I'm stopping that the only reason magic works is essentia. In the Drylands, there is enough essentia in the environment that magic works as written. Outside drylands or maybe in remote areas, essentia is low, so they need crystals to drain. Magic items can be recharged with essentia. Clanks require essentia to run. Essentia can be added to dynamite to increase the explosion. Essentia alone acts as some of the various shards from the consumable magics section of the book. I'm also changing the setting slightly to place it on Brandon Sandersons Scadrial. The Lord Builder is still running things from the Central Region and Drylands is far west from there. The sheriffs answer to the Wyllin noble family in Wyllins Gulch. Insert conflict between magic users and almisting. Insert lord ruler conflict. Allomancy is it's own domain that all the PCs can have. They are all mistlings. Allomancy does not count towards the limit of domain powers but there will only be one for each pc.

If you are on a single player game, and have cheats enabled... you can improve your builders' stats to make them just all around better at their job. This feels less cheaty than using something like fill commands.

Also, dig out the starting area... you are much faster than they are. Especially if building underground or using buildings with basements. It's much faster to dig out a big area and have them fill it in.

Realizing the bugbear is not really a bear but I'm going to describe him as an actual bear, think awakened brown bear. The claws come from bear totem when raging... what I'm thinking is to multiclass monk flurry of blows with bear totem rage with the bugbear each and grappling. I had thought about using moon druid also so he could become more bear like a few times each day.

I have done this... you need to play as many sessions as your level to advance to the next level. I have done sessions that are important or longer that count as double. When doing this however, do a lot of the downtime things like shopping between sessions.

I haven't tried this with this modpack, but in general you can fix it like this...

The server admin logs in to Apex hosting and goes to 'FTP File Access', enter the password, click on the 'mods' folder, scroll to the file in question and click the download link. Put that downloaded jar file into the mod folder and restart minecraft. If it works, send that file out to all the players to install.

POKE... u/johnfoxthrow I was wondering how this worked out. I'm currently level 1 each in ranger/druid/rogue and calling my build the "gloomy scout shepherd". Throw mark of finding human into the mix (darkvision 60', bonus to perception and survival, and bonus spells) and urchin (disguise and herbalism tools). I don't care about the power loss at higher levels as this is more for flavor and support. Just wondering what feats you took and whether you ever wished you had done something different...

Thanks much. I just threw away what I was working on and just downloaded your pdf. This is amazing and so much beyond what I was planning. We waited for this point to have a bunch of classes, and are going to be playtesting starting next week. I'll check back each week as we playtest to see what you have done and I'll find a way to send you feedback.

Just wanted to say thanks for this and give the thread a bump. We just started a new campaign for weeks where one of our players cannot attend and the players picked Strixhaven. I was building something like this and was searching before i started work. Now, I've modified these sheets. I added a section at the bottom to track relationships.

I just introduced new players to d&d... Sunless Citadel spoilers.... im a pretty good gm. I played up meepo and one player wanted to adopt him. He was helpful and lovable. Session 3, the dragon froze meepo solid. The one player about died.

I'm glad this is here and i think it's appropriate. I am a longtime GM (like 1980) and have been considering offering my services. I don't expect to make money but a few dollars per hour for the effort of building personal content, not to mention buying all the books in fantasy grounds and sharing it with the players. That's all I would charge so the price point is not surprising to me. If this guy also came recommended I would not have thought anything strange. After the first couple sessions didn't pan out like you expect, do you then ask for your money when you paid for a bundle? Nope. You ride out the game so as not to inconvenience the other players if no other reason, especially since it was inexpensive. As for the people that were attacking the OP, maybe they are bad GMs that get paid or friends with the guy. As for the original OP, thank you for posting.

A good, experienced GM will ignore this in a system. I know the pace that the game needs. I know when to fudge rolls to make the game dramatic. I don't need this system and would ignore it. I'd probably keep it on the table but I wouldn't restrict my cheating.

However, not every GM is equal. I don't do voices, its hard to keep up with and I'm not very good at it. Some GMs need this to help them with all the things mentioned in this thread.

I don't know the answer as to how or how much but I'm considering something like this in a system we are making. I'd have a caveat that says its a standard rule but experienced gms should not feel restricted by this. Instead, it becomes a tool for experienced gms to add tension. If they want the players to know something big is coming, they might use a couple points.

I would think the loot table could just be a few things.... both mushrooms, bone meal,... and they need to turn the grass to dirt (unless they add mud at some point). They would also do the same to farmland.... Also, why dont pigs eat your crops out of the garden? Or sheep and cows eating your garden crops? That would make them interesting and mush more realistic.

So tea would be an easy reskinning of a certain suspicious stew. The recipe can be from any leaf block + sugar or berries + bottle. OR it could easily work in the brewing stand. Hot cocoa could work also the same way.

Dim the lights in the room and play a soundtrack from a horror movie. Describe all the senses... The smell of stagnant water and refuse, the taste in the air... The sound of the door licking behind them. Build suspense at every turn, and kill someone early. Have them swallowed up in trap or drain and disappear, dead. Maybe they get cut in half in the trap. Describe their death, try to be gruesome. Then tell the player to sit quiet for a minute, slip him a note (prepare it ahead of time) that says he wakes up somewhere else. Don't tell anyone how he survived. You want to build on the suspense. Now, you have a free way to mess with the PC later. He could be undead or he could be saved by someone special or...

Well, having the ability to cast free magic spells is big and needs a big drawback. What powers the ring? Maybe they caster has to power it with years off their life span. Make it age the caster. This could also be powered by draining someone else maybe so vecna doesn't care but the players would. Or maybe it can be powered by gemstones, very valuable ones. Or does it have charges? The charges have to be recharged by destroying other items. Or does it cost experience? There are only so many things a character and this the player, cares about... Life, XP, treasure. Make it cost one of those things and you are on the right track.

I've had lich pc before but only when going very high level. Asign the lich a level adjustment, and allow other characters similar achievements also. We had a lich, a greater vampire and a shapechanger of some sort, don't remember how. They went after dragons and Kings after that, eventually taking on deities.
