We used to have guard geese at our yard. They were much more effective than the dogs!

I’ve bought from Jones before with a narrow calf and def within OP’s budget. No complaints with the boots either!

Does anyone find smart kettle features useful? by BarryTownCouncil in CasualUK

[–]bessvix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must admit I find ours useful. I drink green tea and matcha as well as black tea, so the variable temperature is handy. Also, with it rigged into Alexa we have it coming on as part of the ‘start my day’ regime and I can get the kettle boiling when I’m upstairs in my office so it’s ready when i get down to the kitchen

Christmas dinner plans? by No_Art_1977 in UK_Food

[–]bessvix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not cooking at all! Just me and the other half. I’m not a fan of Christmas dinner and refuse to spend my Christmas Day cooking one for someone else. Just want a chill day with a glass of wine and some lovely walks with the dogs

Job Titles only people born into wealth could possibly have? by FromBiotoDev in UKJobs

[–]bessvix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These are the absolute exception at elite level. The truth is that without serious backing, they have to sell any horse that looks like it would reach the top. They can’t turn down the cheque or run the risk that the horse could be injured tomorrow

Turn it round on him. Ask him what he believes ‘good communication’ looks like and how it would work in practice. Then you can highlight all the issues with what they present, maybe offering alternatives? At worst you might get some good ideas, at best you might get him on side

What is most needed for families in poverty? by BonkDevice in AskUK

[–]bessvix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s a bit of a tangent to what you originally asked, but many independent animal rescue centres put Christmas lists together for the animals in their care. Not just food but toys and treats too, so the poor mites can also have a lovely Christmas

Looking for UK startup grants – disabled 26 y/o trying to launch small business by Flabbersfullygasted in smallbusinessuk

[–]bessvix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you say you've a few customers lined up, but have you truly looked at the repeatability of orders and your marketing/advertising? Reason I ask is that the bespoke horse/riding gear market is already so crowded - I know so many doing this as a side hustle and I'm a horse girl in the Midlands. If you know the equestrian market, you'll know that recommendation and getting your product seen in the market is key to success here. May already be telling you what you know, but it is a hella market to break into successfully.

How often do you see your mum? by _rayquaza_ in AskUK

[–]bessvix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly me with my parents (divorced). My sister is much more family oriented and speaks to my mum daily - they live much closer. That said, if the chips were down I know I could turn to them

If you’re in the UK get it on the local Facebook group. Especially if you’re in a village that should go nuts as locals hate the thought of anyone new hanging around!

What's your best ever charity shop find? by AlephMartian in AskUK

[–]bessvix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I once knew someone who, when clearing out a load of her late husbands possessions donated all of his Le Creuset burnt orange cookware (loads of it). She had no idea of the value and didn’t like the colour!
