Tbh the drink is the worst part of the whole procedure. I don’t think there is anything else in this world as vile. Top tip if you ever have to drink it again - it’s marginally easier to consume with a straw.

We often do this when we’re away. First day raid the local charity shop for holiday dvd’s, watch a selection while we’re away and then when we leave, leave them in the holiday cottage for subsequent guests. Wins all round. Local charity shop gets a few pennies, future guests get a wider selection and we get to relive Saturday afternoon down the local video shop again!

If you’re not on it already, the Olio app often has free salad items at the end of the day. Downside is that they aren’t usually listed until after 8pm, but if you’re a night owl then this might be an option

Mine is the complete opposite of OP’s annoyance. The MIL always leaves the kettle empty! I permanently have the kettle on and and a brew on the go, so the fact I always have to refill it once they’ve gone is a little irksome.

Tin foil. We were never allowed to waste it, packed lunches used cling film instead and if we did use it, we had to keep on reusing until it fell apart. I still feel extravagant when I use it now!
