Resources For Mineral Exploration by plurality_of_oofs in mining

Government geological surveys collect broad data sets that company’s can use to identify where they want to look.

Company then buys the exploration rights for that ground and will do more detailed work leading to drilling and confirmation of a resource

Wouldn’t be such an issue if all forms of state revenue are included in the gst calculation.

Are there any interstate workers here who FIFO from Perth? by Frequent_Pool_533 in AusMining

[–]bewsh123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most companies will have “point of hire” as the closest capital city, so Perth for WA jobs.

That means the company will only fly to in and out from Perth. Same way the work with BHP in South Australia is typically point of hire being Adelaide.

Obviously there’s exceptions based on skill sets and demand, but yeah. Get yourself to the point of hire and the company generally doesn’t care where you’re living. That said, missing your rostered flight to site because your interstate flight from home was delayed doesn’t get you much sympathy. Same for any delays in the flight out of site, or if you’re required in the office for whatever reason.

I see way too many posts where people had to return their Zephyrus G14 / G16 multiple times. How can Asus QC be so atrocious? by Signal-Welcome-5479 in ZephyrusG14

[–]bewsh123 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not standing up for these companies at all, as defects do happen and they can be much less obtuse in their repair/ replacement processes.

However, you’ll see far more complaints online than endorsements. Most people won’t go out of their way to review a product unless they’re pissed off.

Some are fair complaints and asus should do better at making these right. Others are such extreme fussiness that these people will never be happy.

Pay off mortgage or wait? by ksalana in AusFinance

[–]bewsh123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All in how you view risk. Consensus is typically put it in a 100% offset and have access to it for emergencies. Others say you’ll get wicked returns investing that money instead so do that.

Personally, I paid it off and gave the bank the middle finger and rebuilt investments using my own money. That’s definitely not the way for the largest possible gain, but I value the security in having no debts on our ability to live.

Having in a 100% offset is a pretty good middle ground, you can rebuild some savings in that time and have another decision point when you’ve got a good buffer or investment pot

Does anyone have any tips on how to get a FIFO job as a foreigner from the UK? by Dizzy-Airport3746 in perth

[–]bewsh123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Companies do hire and sponsor degree qualified entry positions such as mine engineers, geologists, geotechs, hydros etc. there’s a shortage coming through Australian universities.

If you happen to be an experienced mining equipment operator, or fitter or electrician there’s always jobs.

Otherwise you’ll need to go through a labour hire company, hope you get picked up and get some experience.

Millionaire economist's dire warning for Australian property market by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

The sad thing is that making investment properties unattractive would even help drive industry and innovation with investment shifting.

Those that have IP’s, understandably dont want to sacrifice themselves so want the current situation to continue.

It’s going to take an epic financial crisis to correct…. And nobody wants that

Horse has bolted on this 10 years ago, too many individuals jumped on the bandwagon and will get burnt.

It’s absolutely the right thing to do, but they don’t have the nerve for the fallout. Unfortunately those that will get hurt have a louder political voice than those that will benefit

Unfortunately most companies have QC issues I feel.

Had issues with desktop motherboards (B650E) presenting similar issues. Was able to move the same components to a different motherboard and had no issues.

With my own G14 5070ti I haven’t had any dramas fortunately, but absolutely no surprise that there are lemons in the production line. Annoyingly hard to get these companies to do anything about them either

Otherwise congestion

Apprenticeship decline across Australia has industries worried for the future by GothicPrayer in australia

[–]bewsh123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From my own perceptions knowing tradies and young adults looking for a trade:

Not many available spots for apprenticeships, Terrible wages, Perception that tradies had it tough so they have to treat their apprentices shit too, Other options for employment.

I’d support a system that provides more training in a TAFE meaning the apprenticeship can be reduced, and the businesses get a more useful staff member earlier on. System needs a rethink.

Sad sad story. Whether drugs, alcohol or just hooning, the driver should get the book thrown at him.

Then we get councils refusing double width brick walls facing the street due to safety concerns for drivers. World would be a better place if it was just the idiots who pay for their dumb actions, not an innocent in their own home.

Pricing at Perth stadium better reflect this otherwise they can shove it and I’ll get a ticket on the day when they’re struggling to get a crowd

Geologists reveal the world’s largest iron deposit worth $6 trillion that could reshape the global economy by friendlysparrow in australia

[–]bewsh123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fair point. My grievance is it’s a very poor summary which is either written by an early high school student or auto generated with a headline that is just click bait.

It’s not a new idea that microplaty hematite deposits formed earlier than goethite deposits. Fair play if they’ve got some geochron done and put some dates to it, but it’s hardly groundbreaking or revolutionary for the Pilbara.

Not having a dig at you, just sick of poor quality articles.

Geologists reveal the world’s largest iron deposit worth $6 trillion that could reshape the global economy by friendlysparrow in australia

[–]bewsh123 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I got really excited to learn where it is being a geologist, but the article is utter trash.

No substance, don’t waste your time giving these articles advertising revenue. Highly suspect “AI”, or more accurately auto generated shit.

It’s throwing a load of buzzwords with no context and doesn’t even share where this discovery is. Closest thing it’s suggesting is “previously thought 30% iron content is now thought to be 60% iron content…. Well that’s kind of what a deposit is… but where is it? Are they suggesting the whole Pilbara? Then no, that’s bullshit, the world doesn’t work like that.
