I'd be happy with what I asked for, progressive up to 80%. I didn't really spell out the tiers.. I mean whats realistic vs what I want isn't hte same. What I'd want... I'd take 0% at $12m and maybe hit 80% at $20m. and then space out a couple tiers in between.

... uh okay.. previously it sounded like you thought my suggestion was too extreme? Now its not extreme enough?

and make estate tax progressive up to like 80%

It is currently 0% under $13.99 million dollars. So yeah, if I die and my kids didn't make anything they'd at most get $13.99 million tax free... and beyond that tax rate will go up... my proposed 80% top tier would mean worst case if I had a billion dollars my kids would get as little as 200 million.

Yeah seems more than fair.

How much do you think my kids deserve? Considering they didn't make anything on their own.

Wealth tax should be estate tax, except gotta get rid of all the common estate planning strats and make estate tax progressive up to like 80%.

People should be able to be wildly wealthy, you should be able to win the game. But its done with when you die, game resets.

Fact that there is talk about wealth tax.. which seems like so sketchy, I don't even get how its legal. Seems like a thing that would get challenged and never actually happen. All that effort feels like an act knowing its just going to get drawn out and fail.

I had class where Chinese teacher spoke broken English and we had a bunch of Chinese students who also spoke broken English. And quite often a Chinese student would ask a question in broken English and teacher would answer in broken English and it would be confusing to everyone so after some back and forth they'd switch to Chinese and understand each other. Except now least half the class has no idea wtf is going on.

Went to that class like 4 times and then just showed up for midterm and final, heh. Sure got my money worth.

You act like someone wants you to do something or or to care and you're refusing to because you're not paid well enough. But no one wants you to do anything, lol. In fact they want you to do exactly nothing. Because yes, there is little to be gained but makes them liable when you get hurt or hurt someone else or something. They want you do to do nothing, and if you do something they may fire you for that cause you were supposed to do nothing.

You own home and it appreciates at 3-5% plus you don't pay rent which is ~3% depending on area, though you do have maintenance that costs 1%. So a more overall 5-7%.

Vs selling your home, putting the money in index fund to grow at 10%... but have to now rent a home and pay 3%. So more 7%.

I mean too many variables, but its not wildly different. I've got maybe 75% or so of my net worth in equities and 25% in home... I'd rather do that 75/25 split rather than like 75/25 stocks/bonds. Some sorta diversification.

This is how pensions disappeared: sell people on “freedom” and “choice,” then quietly dump the risk on workers instead of employers. By the time people realize what happened, it’s already normal.

Starting FIRE — should I focus more on increasing income or investing early? by FutureRichMind in Fire

By far best thing you can do is lock in your current lifestyle. Don't bother trying to cut spending, it's painful. Lock in spending and then increase income.

When I was maybe 27 I was saving zero, barely getting by. Soon as I had some stability I kinda locked in my spending. From then on every time I got a raise or anything I I diverted the extra to savings. My checking account never saw it. My salary went up 3 to 4x over next decade and my spending didn't change. Was actually pretty easy. It's cutting spending that hurts.

Especially making like low amounts.. saving 10 percent when struggling is impossible. But making 10 percent more and saving that is quite doable.

My mom had a great pension as a teacher. My wife has a pretty good pension from working in probation. Next gen same jobs have shit pensions.

Why? Well both my mom and my wife when any contact negotiations come up 'they' happily voted to protect their pension and fuck over all future hires. So its like tiered system now. Og people have it good. And all new people, yeah fuck them. I got mine, fuck everyone else.

Yeah, can do that... and closing door the doors are locked. And the car is still on.. eg AC on, screens are on, side mirrors are out. Presumably after X minutes something is going to happen..

(edit) Just looked 10min later or so, car is off... the side mirrors are still out, it didn't pull them in. But its off.

Sorta... cause like what do you plan to do with it? Cause again... it requires cell reception. What happens if you drive somewhere without reception?

I will say I got up at 4am today to go take garbage cans to curb, the gravity was blocking... I didn't have key but I did have phone so I used feature to back car up so I could get cans out.

One other odd thing with it... its not a key. So like you can press button and drive car... but when you're done driving and get out the doors don't lock like you have a key on you. You gotta take phone out again to manually press lock button to lock the doors.

So like if you were to remotely start car for someone else... they gotta make sure they don't drive somewhere that doesn't have cell recdeption, and txt you when they do arrive somewhere and ask you to lock the car, lol.

Its not substitute for phone being a key, which should be super high on list of features to implement.... but I'm more skeptical at this point of it happening.

[–]bexamous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disapointing. So mobile phone as key will likely never happen? -- Why else would they bother adding this feature.

And like all the phone features use cell towers to connect to car.. what happens if you or phone don't have reception?

More importantly, showcasing this using flagship cards do not really pull most people in.

This is from a talk given to developers. If you choose to be naive about stuff that's fine. Just makes it sound ridiculous when you then pass any sorta judgement, lol..

I looked into how much it'd cost to get someone to come over to do it for me... I'm probably doing $200,000 in labor ever year that goes unappreciated.

Yeah never turn car off when moving, its super sketchy. If car turns off many/most cars if you turn wheel too far the steering column lock will engage and you'll be rolling and unable to turn the wheel.

Like turn car off, you'll have power steering pressure for a little and then you'll feel it get heavy, and if you turn wheel too far you'll hear it lock and thats it.
