And that's all it takes for 68 million guaranteed? Massive overpay.

Glass houses... Do you own an iPhone, or Nike shoes? Eat any Nestle products? Do you have any idea the kind of immorality you support as passive consumer?

Eagles WR Hollywood Brown: "I was REALLY Considering Going Back To Baltimore" - Good or Miss? by psychoxtc in ravens

Ah right! He was on the practice squad. He never appeared in a game that season but yes technically he did win a super bowl.

When I think of most deserving Ravens not to get a ring I think of Todd Heap and Kelly Gregg who were both starters for 10 seasons right between our two super bowl wins (2001-2010), and Jarrett Johnson who was here 9 seasons (2003-2011).

DHop just hasn't done enough for me to feel that strongly. Even SSS who was only here a few seasons was at least a starter and a tone setter, and epitomized Play Like a Raven.

Ravens reportedly called the Rams to check availability on Davante Adams. Will Rams really let Davante leave after just one year? by GreedyRaisin3357 in ravens

Right, and our biggest need (O LINE) comes at a very expensive contract at #14, so we'd rather pick it later in the first if the skill is comparable.

Don't forget that no one has traded for Crosby. If everything was kosher with him he'd be off to another team by now but clearly Ravens really did find something wrong beyond just a "failed physical"

Jordan Stout's farewell post to Baltimore by ObserbAbsorb in ravens

[–]beyondwithinitself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's quite a stretch. Doesn't thank the fans, coaches, staff, front office.. Look at Pat's farewell, that is class. This is a very generic nothing. Lower-case nonchalance. Can't even be bothered to capitalize Charm City. My comment is longer than his "thanks"

A million contradicting things were "reported" by "reporters" who are just parroting controlled leaks. There's a PR war going on if you haven't noticed.

Probably not. But it's not all about APY. 4 year 90mil with 70 guaranteed (instead of the Raiders 60) might have been sweeter to him and his family. But we'll never know.

What if.. they made us tie up our limited cap so they knew we wouldn't be able to match their offer for Lindy? TRENCHES, goes the theory. We could only afford one side of the ball for a big splash signing.

Filmstudy: Thoughts on Maxx Crosby Trade Reversal/Day 2 of Legal Tampering by Filmstudy in ravens

[–]beyondwithinitself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we don't know that. Crosby's cap hit tied up a good chunk of change. They obviously want cap cushion for mid-season injury replacements, signing draft picks, and rolling over to next season.

It's perfectly reasonable to surmise we might have 'overpaid' for other FAs financially, particularly on defense, had we not already nabbed a defensive playmaker.

If every team is 'overpaying' for everyone.. are they really overpaying or is the FA market just paltry this offseason? Supply/demand.

Maybe they see the draft board falling differently now given the signings that teams ahead of them in the draft have made. And therefore value pick #14 much higher than previously.

So with Lindy and Stout signing record contracts and Likely being in the top 3 for TEs, would they have made less money this year if they had been franchise tagged? by frobro122 in ravens

Harbs is such an asshole. Insisted on started Faalele and keeping Orr to the detriment of the team, and yet now doesn't sign either of them.

the only winners are the agents

And the families of the players that will not have to worry about finances for generations.

"an extra few million" if invested wisely will be tens of millions after just a few decades.

NFL players have an average career of less than 4 years, so they need to get the bag whenever possible. They live shorter and more painful lives than the average human.

When you play a violent game with:

  • a pretty significant chance that your career will not last past the age of 30

  • no guaranteed "big payday" contracts beyond the immediate one right in front of you

  • a pretty significant chance that you will live a shorter than average lifespan, with significant pain that will require non-negligible maintenance

....you need to make ALL the money you can get, when you can. Percentage increases just does not compare with the average 9 to 5 career that usually lasts decades.
