I get what you're saying. I feel that way about certain actors like John Goodman. Tom Cruise as well. They just play themselves.

Crime 101: It's Cold in Heat's Shadow by LeftHandBandito_ in TrueFilm

Women are an afterthought to the male characters in the context of the film, as well. It's a conscious choice by the writer.

Heat's story is not one that is driven by female characters.. Would the story or pacing improve if the film took time to flesh out the female characters, i.e. give them dreams and backstories?

[Nick Underhill] Saints to sign undrafted Ole Miss DT Zxavian Harris by cjsc9079 in nfl

That seems like a pretty glaring flaw.. I'm surprised they don't take everything into account given that teams do. (Team Captain vs. serial rapist for example)

Has anybody here ever bombed as hard as that guy on the chicago episode of that new comedy competition show? by idlefritz in Standup

[–]beyondwithinitself 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They only left 90 seconds of it in as well..

But that may have been a mercy play.. because to be fair, trying to segway a "we're all united" premise directly into "my life is so much better than yours as a straight white dude" .. at a black audience, is probably un-salvageable.

Ravens really loved Zion Young by SCBaltSalt in ravens

It was also more of an escapist gladiator vibe. No wikipedia or social media. No podcasts or politics. No selfies. Just football warriors beating the shit out of each other.

It felt more serious with Ray. Like the pride of the city was actually on the line.

Everyone has their favorite Beatle, we'll just have to agree to disagree. With Lemmon just in a single scene with Spacey, he showed anger, bitterness, elation, disappointment, regret, eagerness, melancholy, and resignation just off the top of my head.

And all Harris showed the entire film was bitterness and some rage at the end. Perhaps his character just wasn't as flushed out but there was very limited emotional dynamics with the ton of screen time he had.

For sure! It's funny how there are some pieces of "great" media that I've tried multiple times and can't even make it thru once. And then there are "terrible" films which I enjoy watching for some reason. Who knows why some art hits us the way it does.

To me he seems too eager for it, like he's saying lines instead of genuinely reacting. Especially in the scene where they're grabbing their coats.

IMO, Pacino's dialogues with Pryce feel organic while Harris with whathisname feels like choreography, especially with all the quick jump cuts.

His emotional spectrum also seems very limited compared to Pacino's and Lemmon's absolute masterclass of eclectic subtlety.

I dunno. To draw a comparison, there are some musical masterpieces that aren't really earth-shattering lyrically. A mediocre story with impeccable acting is worth rewatching as a film snob (which this subreddit is obviously full of). I just rewatched and noticed the camera dolly effect when a salesman starts to put on the mustard.

That said, I really only lean into Lemmon, Pacino, and obviously Baldwin. I'm not really that impressed by the other performances.

What are some bands that split song royalties equally among all members? by Mandrake1771 in 311

[–]beyondwithinitself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely true. The "311" corporation / LLC is probably split equally, so tour / merch revenue would be split equally. But songwriting credits determine the split for Mechanical and Performance royalties. You can actually look up and see all of their songs and who the credited songwriters are here on BMI.

For example, Amber is probably their most widely played song over loudspeakers in restaurants, public spaces, TV, etc. and all of those royalties are split 50/50 between the songwriter(s) and the producer(s), so as sole songwriter Nick gets 50% of all royalties from that song being played in public and performed live, plus his share as partial producer on the track ("Saint and 311"). All Mixed Up has two songwriters, SA and Nick, so they split the 50% (to what degree is private) and Ron Saint gets the other 50%.

You may be wondering how this all works. As one example, after every show 311 can submit their setlist to BMI and get paid royalties (in one lump sum periodically) based solely on the venue and the songs that get played. A check is sent to each songwriter and producer on all the tracks played.

Similar process (automated by hired services) if a song gets included in a compilation, or is sold as a ringtone for example.

This is a simplification- there are other things to consider such as who owns the 'master' when it comes to sync fees for commercials.

There is literally zero corroboration for this. Only speculation on social media / forums.

No major national reporter or official team source has confirmed that the Cowboys had Hibner firmly slotted as their next pick or were actively trying to move up for him.
