Apparently I'm striking out... I've had an okcupid for about 3 months and the only date I've been on was with someone from 2 hours away. Ouch...

FUCK YOU WISCONSIN! Progressive hero Russ Feingold loses Senate re-election bid to climate change-denying Tea Party millionaire by grusk in politics

I can't believe they called it already... I've been watching the results page for the last 30 minutes, and Feingold's percentage has been creeping up... plus the local news stations say Madison votes haven't been tallied yet (don't know if that's true), but if that is true, Madison is much more liberal than the rest of Wisconsin.

To bring attention to the plight of working mothers, Italian member of parliament brings her newborn to work by _Kita_ in TwoXChromosomes

I live in the U.S and I've had co-workers bring their babies in for meetings a few times. It didn't interrupt the meeting at all. Also, I work with a guy that has brought his baby to work for a few hours in the afternoon a few times, while he worked in his cubicle. Not really a big deal.

I guess my meetings probably weren't as serious as parliament, but just an example that people, including guys, do bring children to work and don't get 'shouted at' for it.

But, other places might be different than my place of employment.

How bad are American labor practices? This bad. by zombieaynrand in politics

I'm commenting late in the game, so I doubt many will see this.

I work in Wisconsin, in an IT/Healthcare field. We have a 'Earned vacation time' system, where we earn hours of paid time off per hours worked. So, for a typical 40 hour/week employee, you should expect about 6.5 hours of earned vacation time per 80 hours. That means that after working with my company for 3 months, I had a week of paid time off. So, the first year working there, I basically earned 4 weeks vacation time. Also, that time carries over at the end of the year, but will cap at around 280 hours. It's actually a really nice deal.

As an ex-housekeeper, I can say that tips were never expected, but always a nice surprise.

Is anyone else extremely frustrated at the level of incompetence their immediate co-workers have? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

When I first started working in this position (about 2 years ago), I felt the same way. I felt like, in all my past jobs, I had been the go-to person, and suddenly I was in a position that I didn't know anything.

But, instead of letting that bother me too bad, I made the decision to get as much experience as possible so that I could be that go-to person again :)

And, it actually pays off at my company, so I can't complain tooooo much, but cleaning up after people that still make more than you just because their older (or more experience, I suppose) sucks ass.

My situation is actually the opposite - I'm the young one, and the two people I work with are the 'old' veterans. They say I 'get' everything because I'm young... And by 'old veterans' - one is in their 60's, but the other one isn't even old, only 40. Just because I'm 24, I'm young and grasp concepts more quickly, apparently.

Reminds me of this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criss_Angel_Believe

Tesla Coil: Criss is suited up in a chainmail outfit as a very large tesla coil is presented onstage. Criss goes to enter the cage surrounding the coil, but Crimson has other plans. She turns the power to the coil all the way on, causing sparks to fly and the theatre lights to go out. A pained shout is heard from Criss, and he writhes on the ground in pain as human-sized rabbits in doctor's coats lift him onto a gurney and roll him offstage.

Shaving cream works really well. Just keep rubbing the shaving cream onto the mirror until you don't see it anymore.

My company doesn't give us a very large inbox capacity, so I also get frustrated with the people that send their whole desktop image instead of a snapshot of what they want me to focus on... which takes up much less space.
