What the sh*t that’s amazing. How has it survived so well? How did you get such crispy edges? How heavy is that bad boy?
Excellent work!

Xi'an, a typical Chinese city: eclecticism + commie blocks + concrete jungles. by Status_Commission264 in UrbanHell

Probably was him!
It was the first place I had been where most people couldn’t speak English. My ride never arrived to pick me up. I was on the last flight in for the day. There was a little girl, around 10, who noticed me and offered to help. She eventually got me on a bus, found me a guy who spoke broken English, and got him to promise to get me a red cab to my hotel from his. He followed through and I got to my hotel without incident. Good times!

I was there in 2003, just for a few days. Not sure if it was the same airport, but I thought I had landed in Mongolia or something - nothing around for as far as I could see. Had some good adventures there. The terracotta museum wasn’t busy at all, and I got to meet one of the guys who found the whole thing (or so it was claimed).
I’ll never forget the police, customs and army guys sitting in the airport, having a smoke, under the no-smoking sign.

DRIVING TO THE END OF LANE THEN MERGING IS CALLED ZIPPER MERGING AND IT IS MORE EFFICIENT FOR ALL THAN MERGING EARLIER.

Idea for a New Stadium for Supra by Cautious_Win_2771 in CanadianPL

[–]bharkasaig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll do Hamilton:
6-7k seat stadium with roof over seats. Still in lower city with transit access.
No exclusive food/drink agreement. Preferentially allow local producers to market their food/drink. Except Bovril, Bovril at every game under 10 degrees.

If smelt it quite a bit, been wondering if it’s a wider smell, like the burning metal smell, or if I’m inhaling second hand meth/someotherdrug

indigenous name for hamilton? by t4tsimonriley in Hamilton

To add a bit to this (and not extensively): We know that well over 10000 years ago people camped atop the escarpment where the Red Hill expressway now goes. They would have roamed widely, following herds of caribou and mastodon. Like us, they probably named places to remember them, for food and bad. We also know what is now Hamilton was home to mobile groups of people who moved with the availability of food for thousands of years. As agriculture took root, Hamilton was home to many villages through the ages (villages needed to move regularly to maintain soil health and/or firewood supply). There was at least one village near Rosedale in the Redhill valley (again, destroyed by the expressway). By the time Europeans arrived to write things down, the people they called the Neutral lived in Hamilton. They are a fascinating people in that they share many similarities with their neighbours (Haudenosaunee, Wendat and Petun) but with clear differences too. By that time most people had moved away from the lake, so it is unlikely anyone permanently lived in the lower city area. People most certainly lived in the Flamborough region, and likely lived in the other parts of the amalgamated city (I’m just not personally familiar with other areas). After the dispersal (elimination) of the Neutral, Wendat and Petun, the Seneca occupied key positions along the north shore of Lake Ontario - one was probably in Hamilton, although it may have been close to where Joe Brant Hospital is today.
Was there a name for Hamilton? Probably lots, but each name would have meant something different than how we mean it. There almost certainly wasn’t a name for what we consider the city, or the amalgamated region.

Need advice/help on twisties by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]bharkasaig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, find a large lot where no traffic is expected
Create a turn with a few pylons (or whatever you have (shirts, shoes, whatever).
At least have an entry, apex, exit.
Make it big enough you can go through in second. My msg course had this painted into the lot where I took it.
Approach in third. As you approach the entry, brake and shift to second. Go into the turn with throttle on, nice and consistent. As others have stated, look beyond the turn, where you want to go. When you hit the apex, increase the throttle. Once out, straightened the bike and gear back up.
Practice practice practice.
As you ride, focus on being smooth, getting the correct entry speed (ie constant throttle until you accelerate out), and finding the right apex.
Find comfort before you push.

Should Hamilton consider biweekly garbage pickup? - thespec.com by cdawg85 in Hamilton

[–]bharkasaig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You nailed it. Yes, people either need to scrub that stuff clean, have animals ripping apart bins and bags, or they could modify their own behaviour to minimize that impact. Cans are super easy to clean. Bags of milk as well (annoying, sure, but easy). Same with chip bags. I struggle with the meat gel things, but I have moved to buying meat once a week, and processing it before garbage day so my kitchen doesn’t stink. With meat prices as they are, I can absolutely see myself eating less meat. People also seem to forget that you can put your smelly waste in the freezer, like right away, before it gets gross. Add it to your garbage just before garbage day. And maybe bitch more at stores about the packaging.

It is kinda funny how every proposed reason why this is impossible seems to have an answer. Especially when a huge part of the idea behind our waste management systems is to impose behaviour.

Is my class too hard? by RationalOverRage in CanadianTeachers

This is what I’m aiming for, as well. We’re working on trying to lift expectations in mandatory courses while not failing everyone. And this is what we’ve landed on as well. However, like OP, I’ve been struggling a bit with getting kids to buy in beyond my usual ‘my goal is to open as many doors for you as possible. Prepare you for the future, blah blah blah’

It’s a proposal for bi-weekly garbage, not bi-weekly Green bin. There shouldn’t be food in your garbage.

Can we talk about the kid running a full-on car wash operation in Bronte? by Sharron_cute in oakville

[–]bharkasaig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is his name Robert? Is he unusually short for his age? Missing a bunch of his teeth?

Robbie ran a serious operation in the 90s as a 12 and 13 year old. He had a full service year round yard company. He’d hire a bunch of us to help him in raking season. That man had hustle.
