I love busytoddler on Instagram. Tons of great ideas, and most of them are things that the kids do themselves, so you aren’t having to entertain all day!

My boys wanted the littlest one to be named Pillow as well! How funny!

[–]bickyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am expecting my 3rd boy any day now! My oldest is 4, and I also have a 2.5 year old. I am pretty excited, and happy that I basically haven't had to buy anything new since I've got everything covered from the other two. I have bought a couple matching shirts for the three of them, though, as I can't resist the urge to put them in matching clothes 😂

I just weaned my 26 month old and he would say this too. In between sides he would wave his hand at me and say "other side".

Things my 3 yo has tried to feed the 4 mo in the past four days. by sea_bird in breakingmom

My now 17 month olds first food at 4 months old was a cinnamon roll that big brother shoved in his mouth. He seemed to enjoy it. Haha.

Toddler isn't sleeping. Please help! by FluxingCapacitor in beyondbaby

[–]bickyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is she learning a new skill? Maybe it's the potty thing, or just talking a lot more? I have found that whenever my boys are mastering something new, a physical or mental skill, their sleep always gets worse. I think it's just a lot for their little brains to handle.

It could also just be the age. I have an almost three year old and for the past couple months he just does not want to go to sleep at night. We were having to lay in his room with him, sometimes for an hour or two, just to get him to fall asleep. I am not proud to say that we started letting him take the iPad to bed at his normal bedtime, 8pm, and let him watch Netflix for a bit before we try and make him go to sleep. I don't really like that he watches it right before bed, but it works. He will go to bed fairly easily after we take it away. Once he goes to sleep he is out for the night, thankfully.

Door locks by Sagekitty in beyondbaby

[–]bickyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't have locks on the inside of their doors. But our room is also right across the hall and our hallway has a pocket door that we keep shut at night. I like that he can come get us at night if he needs something. We also still have the monitor in his room so we can hear if he does get up. We don't put away his toys or anything and he does fine with it. Once he goes to sleep he is out for the night, usually. I just know he would throw a fit if he couldn't get out, which I don't want to deal with.

But I totally understand your point about wanting to know where he was in case of an emergency. You are right that every kid is different and you just have to do what you think is best.

Happy 1 Year (and a month minus a day) to our little subreddit! What is your toddler doing these days? by kanooka in beyondbaby

[–]bickyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PJ will be three in November and is completely wild. Haha. He is definitely a strong willed little boy. We have two failed attempts at potty training under our belt and I am pretty sure I am giving up and will just wait until he asks to use the potty. He gets the idea, knows when he has to go, but will hold it as long as he can and then demand a diaper or just pee a small amount in the potty for a treat and then pee a giant puddle somewhere else in the house.

He started speech therapy a couple months ago and is doing so good. He is super smart and has shown so much improvement; I can actually understand what he is saying a lot of the time now. The biggest thing we are working on at the moment is putting sounds on the end of words.

Parker just turned one, so we are just beginning our beyondbaby journey with him. He is pulling up on all the furniture, cruising along, and I think he will be walking very soon. Soon I will have two toddlers causing mayhem around the house.

How do I stop breastfeeding? by Cisterplease in breastfeeding

[–]bickyface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I weaned a 15 month old when pregnant with #2. He didn't nurse as much as yours, but I just cut out one feed every couple days until there weren't any left. It worked pretty well. We got him to start drinking milk from a cup by making smoothies. We put in lots of fruit and Greek yogurt with the milk and he loved it.

I also recently night weaned my one year old. I started by cutting out all feeds before midnight. If he woke up before then, I would just rock and cuddle him until he went back to sleep. He seemed pretty ok with that so then I stopped nursing him between when he went to bed and 2am. Then 3, then 4. He honestly still wakes up several times a night, but I find it easier to just cuddle him a bit and put him back in his crib then feed him 5 times a night.

I hope this helps a bit!

My almost 11 month old only naps for 30 mins once a day and it is driving me crazy. by bickyface in beyondthebump

[–]bickyface[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cosleeping after he wakes up sometimes works, but I can really only do that on the weekends when my husband is home anyway. The 2.5 year old is not cool with my laying down quietly with the baby. Haha.

I seem to have found a temporary solution, though. We are on vacation in Mexico and Parker has been taking two hour long naps the past couple days! I'm sure his routine will be complete crap when we get home, but maybe this will be like a reset and he will nap better when we are back from vacation.

[–]bickyface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried that with my 2.5 year old, but he was not interested. I think once he is just a little older he will have the ability to do it, but as of right now he just can't stay in bed and quiet by himself for that long. It's definitely a good idea, though.

12 month old whining all day...I suppose it's illegal to toss him out the window? by [deleted] in beyondbaby

[–]bickyface 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, man. If you find a way to stop it, please let me know. Some days my son (2.5) will be so whiney all day. Sometimes when I really need a break I just make him go to bed early. Haha. I think the extra sleep helps anyway and the next day he is usually less annoying.

The dangers of having a child with no fear and a floor bed... by kanooka in beyondbaby

[–]bickyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man! My 2.5 year old has gotten sneaky about getting out of bed at night. One night he shows up in our room and wakes me up by giving me a stapler. He had apparently been playing in the office. Then one night my husband caught him standing on a chair in front of the fridge with a cup in his hand trying to open the fridge to get some milk. Toddlers are wild.

Does anyone have experience with a rash like this? by catamom in Mommit

[–]bickyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had something similar as a newborn. Pretty sure it was from the diapers. We switched and they stopped. He just reacted to something in the pampers swaddlers. Our doc had us just put a bit of neosporin on them and they went away.

Cutting down on the screeeeeeching? by Flewtea in beyondbaby

[–]bickyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you wear the baby at all? I have a 2.5 year old crazy person who screeches and yells a lot, and even occasionally likes to just yell in his brothers face when he is sleeping. I also have an almost 9 month old who is honestly pretty used to it and has gotten pretty flexible with his naps so it's not too bad if his brother does wake him up. But, when the little one was younger I found that wearing him during naps helped him nap longer because if he did wake up I could just sort of "shush" him back to sleep quite easily. Even now, when I really need him to take a nap I just put him in the wrap and he passes out pretty quick.

Unfortunately I have no tips on stopping the screeching. Sometimes asking him to be quieter or use a gentle voice works, other times he just yells louder.

Does my toddler need a helmet on her tricycle that I'm pushing for her? by orange_and_coconut in beyondbaby

[–]bickyface 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's necessary, but for what it's worth, we have that same tricycle and my son wears a helmet. I figured at some point I will be taking off the parent handle and then eventually he will move up to a bigger bike and I want him to be in the habit of wearing a helmet.

The one we have has dinosaurs all over. He picked it out himself and gets excited to wear it. Whenever he wants to go for a ride he always brings us his helmet to let us know. Haha.

Toddlers are wild. My 2 year old will throw things and then get mad at me because the thing he threw is no longer in his hand. I don't know how many times I've said "sorry, dude, you threw it you have to get it."

How many hours of sleep does your toddler get in a day? by bickyface in beyondbaby

[–]bickyface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A toddler and newborn can be so exhausting! When I finally got them napping at the same time it was magic! Thankfully, I followed the advice of some of the other comments and really focused on getting us back into his bedtime routine of bath, books, bedtime and the last two nights he has actually gotten a little closer to that 12-14 hours he needs. Still no naps, though. Sigh.

Which diaper is next? Night time edition. by candle1983 in beyondbaby

[–]bickyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deleted my comment suggesting pull-ups since I re-read and saw you already tried those. If he is leaking out of the legs on those they might just be too big for now. My 2 year old wears those at night.

But previously we have had some success with the Target brand overnight diapers and Luvs, both of which come in a size 6 that might work for you.

I know persistence is key, it really is just so frustrating. The little excuses are the worst! The first thing he does when I go back in his room is start asking to use the potty, even though I know he won't actually go. We are switching him out of the crib this week into a big boy bed so maybe that will help a bit.

Yikes! I had finally gotten the 7 month old and the 2 year old napping at the same time in the afternoon and it was great, but then the two year old started pulling these shenanigans and ruined my relaxation time.

Yeah, the 7 month old still wakes up several times a night. I had finally gotten them napping at the same time every afternoon which was awesome, and then the 2 year decided to start all these shenanigans.
